As a synthesis sound sculpture myself, this is absolutely wonderful. I have some experience with the oberhiem expander but have owned the OB8 and many others. Very pleasing to the ears thank you
I like the iridium a lot.One day I'll get one.But one thing, many people forget the Kurzweil as a instrument for making ambient music.,there are a lot of sounds in it to do that.
Very reminiscent of Michael Hoenig... and that's not a bad thing. If memory serves he attended the Berlin School of Electronic Music. I tried to talk my parents into sending me there back in 1981. I enjoy your music. Have fun making it.
Yes, but it's earlier. In 1977 he make one of the best Berlin School-albums of all times: "Departure from the Northern Wasterland". Sadly he doesn't produce many albums. He ho the way to make original soundtracks for some films.
@@MartinStuertzer I dabble in ambient a little bit. I feel like I'm in this big whirling vortex of possibilities I don't know what to do with nor how to do it even if I did. I lay down a single track and then I think ... "now what?". Creativity gets easily smothered and it gets hard to go back and put my nose to the grindstone. I really admire artists like you who can riddle it out!
Love this thanks! ....Being musically illiterate myself but having a good ear for what works, I always enjoy the emotion that chord progressions such as the ones you use here bring. And to this day it has remained a mystery to me how to write a track like that. But watching your video I feel I just got a hit of clarity, and I now have a new idea to try out later this week. So thanks again for that. Can I ask, do you start with a particular scale in mind and transpose around inside that? ...or do you switch scales altogether? Hope that question made sense ... :)
Thank you! I don´t really think about this a lot, I play and record different patterns until I find something that I like. But I try to explain what I did in this track. The key is "a-minor". The first chord has the notes a - d - e. That is almost a simple a minor chord but with a fourth (d) instead of the third (c). The second chord is something like d-minor7 (g - a- c), but the root note d is coming very late at minute 03:00, so you don´t know that it´s d-minor7 until then. The third chord is G-major. The fourth chord is F-major with an added 9th. This chord progression is everything that happens on the harmonic side. A special moment is the new bass-line that starts at 3:00 because it adds more notes to the music and sets the chords that I used before into a different context. Before that the bass is just playing the note "a". So you always "hear" a-minor even with the changes that are going in the other voices. Sorry for the speech but you asked. :)
Oh wow, I hit the jackpot in asking that question ....Totally appreciate you taking the time to reply in such a generous way. Yeah, it’s the way the bass changes the context that feels so magical to me, so thanks again for explaining what’s going on. I originally found your channel as I was researching the Waldorf Iridium, but I’ll definitely be hanging around as I’m loving your music.
Man, if the Quantum and Iridium dropped at the same time, I would have totally sprung for the Iridium.... double the polyphony is a worthy trade for an analog filter.
When I tried the Quantum my impression was that the analog filters were not the effort in this synth. If I want to have an analog synth I use different machines, this is clearly a digital instrument.
Martin Stürtzer Agreed. I love my analog gear, but digital gear like this has its own advantages and perks.... a Prophet, OB, or Moog can’t touch some of these sounds, and vice versa.
Brilliant!! Well done, Martin.
Thank you!

This is really great how you showed the instruments coming in with the tags.
I wish more artists would do this with their music.
Great video 👌

I can't imagine the immense amount of time and effort it takes to get proficient in this style of music. Well done Martin!
Thank you very much! I really can´t tell how much time I spent making music but I don´t feel any minute of it was wasted.
