- This beautiful Tucker is on display for all to see at the Audrain Automobile Museum in Newport, Rhode Island. Not many people can say they have been for a drive in a Tucker or have even seen one in person. This machine drives like the day it was made, probably even better. The group at the museum truly value the importance of automotive history and having these vehicles serve their intended purpose of being on the road. This auto has always been on my mind. It is one of the rarest forms of American automotive history in existence. Only 51 were officially made and there is some debate as to how many are still out there. The last verifiable count was 13! It was an incredible honor to be part of this exhibit and to document all the museum has to offer.
Very rare and extremely hard to find! Take really good care of this beautiful car!
Even just watching this, this car exudes smoothness and quality!
According to most sources, 48 of the 51 cars are accounted for. Jeez, smile guys! Your're in a TUCKER!
It's 47
Four were destroyed over the years.
Absolutely beautiful car.
A true exotic sleeper most people would say cool looking old classic have no idea its worth $4 million!!
This is golden.
Slick ship for 1948 😃
Best car ever built
Elegance personified!
The start of the engine sounds like stardust...a dream of a car
I really enjoyed your short video!!!! Is this Tucker #1036???? This Tucker looks really nice!!!! I like the short video!!!
El.mejor caballo de guerra felicidades tengo un 1952
Es genial un auto clasico adelantado a su tiempo gracias por compartir
Quiet engine. When you drove over the camera. The engine sounded like a very well engineered locomotive engine. Now I am jealous of you. lol
This engine and transmission also had about a 35k overhaul and re machining job done to make it one of the best driving tuckers out there. Its a dream to be in
To add onto what AWP said, part of that is each cylinder bank has 2 mufflers (4 in total) which feed into a divider for each bank.
That's pretty... It's not Waltz Blue (what is?) but damn, the Torpedo is a beautiful car.
I would give my soul for one of those especially in red
AACA museum Tucker exhibit says that 47 of the 51 still exist.
Great vid ! Anyone notice the rear view of the Tucker at :06 is very similar to a Tesla Model 3 ?
georgiabigfoot I don’t see it.
No embed allowed? :/
Ese auto estaba adelantado a su época
Wouldm be a perfect to to remanufacture the bodys and modernise the machinacals.
Which Tucker is this
1948 so it is simply referred to as the Tucker 48.
Also known as the tucker torpedo
Here you can compare to the very similar Czech Tatra 603 V8 aircooled car: ruclips.net/video/ecjdo0Oii24/видео.html
Beautiful car. But in my honest opinion Tucker even without the gov B.S. Would have never made it beyond the mid 50's due to odd motor styles as well as the begining of the race era would have killed it
alot of european cars had the things the tucker had, disk brakes , fuel injection rear motor, porsche etc. and ofcourse very good fuel efficiency
It worked in the corvair
I think tucker would have adapted to changing times....
Airbags, and a Big Block V8 shoved in the back.
@@closertothetruth9209 Those were not priorities for the American car buying public in the 1950s. If Tucker had succeeded beyond these 51 and not gotten into legal issues, he'd have had to quickly develop a V8. That's what killed Hudson which was almost as big as the big 3 in the 40s. They were among the winingest manufacturers in the early days of NASCAR. But they never developed a V8. Ford had the flat head V8 since '32. GM brought out the small block in '48. Chrysler joined in with the Hemi in '51. That takes LOTS of money to develop, which the Big 3 had and Hudson didn't - and Tucker had even LESS money.
No way would his company have lasted past the early 50s. The horsepower wars were on by 1953. A Franklin flat 6 helicopter motor wasn't gonna get it done. Tucker would have needed to get into NASCAR too, as that was becoming a huge part of sales and marketing for American car companies.
Sounds way noisy to me.
Get rid of the boxer 6 OHV converted aircraft engine. 166 bhp and 372 lb-ft is peanuts.
Try a V-1650 or Merlin, it would be a little bit more powerful.
