It doesn't matter who built the mosque in the past but it's a place of worship for the community first and foremost.
And if that were the case Buddhist could demolish hundreds of hindu temple because Buddhist temples were destroyed by Hindus in the past but they are in a minority.
Currently there's no Mughal Empire, Delhi sultanate. Why feel the need to dig old wounds which all Indians got over with a long time ago. It didn't solve the problem but created a lot of religious tension since then for sure.
