Evil against the cooler in round 1, then what seems to be against cypher, well, there the group on the grand finale of Quakecon pulled.
The tournament had double elimination modus. Evil had already lost one game and Rapha had not. The +1 map point is the reward for not losing a single game up to grand finals. The alternative option would be to have a full bo5 rematch in case Rapha loses, so we would essentially see the same maps being played again - and it would of been much more work for Evil to win. Otherwise there would be no point in winning the winner bracket, or any downsides for dropping to loser bracket. It's a tournament, not an arranged match between two specific players.
That's why i think that this winner and loser bracket system is a little bit suck. It would be better if they use the system like the football world cup use, (with groups).
Many other (big) tournaments have double elimination without the stupid +1 in the grand finals... Moreover, the +1 decided the victor two years in a row now, so it definitely sucks and should be removed.

Don't know which tournaments you're talking about, but it's just pointless and stupid to have the tournament on double elim without any kind of winner bracket bonus lol. Because then it just would be unfair to the team/player that didn't lose a single game so far. In contrast the other team would have lost one game, but somehow they'd still be on equal grounds.. Like what? Btw, dunno how it was here on QCON, but some double elimination tourneys let's the loser pick the map. I can barely tell what the hell is going on because having forced player models makes differentiating between the two players impossible. Whoever recorded the demos needed to not like the smell their own farts so much and consider people who don't know the game so well. I can imagine being completely confused by this video.
I will give you a quick exemple, Very low level so that you will hopefully develop your strategic thinking. Nadal won more than 66% games against federer. yet federer is the greatest tennis player in history ;)

I've never seen him duel, he's mostly a clan arena player from what I've seen, having good aim only goes so far if you don't have god tier game sense.
