      You can still see the depth effect by making it into a wiggle gif. Having one eye doesn't stop you from seeing depth, you just have to look at it differently. Even with one eye, when you move side to side or even look slightly to the side, your brain still processes the depth. It's easier with two eyes obviously, but we adapt.

    I work for a camera retailer, so I've gotten to meet a load of different photographers with unique specializations... stuff like "Underwater family portraits" or "Wildfire landscapes", but I will always remember the gentleman who, when asked what he liked to shoot, pulled a 3d printed viewmaster out of his bag, popped his phone into it, and then showed me gorgeous 3d photos of the Grand Canyon and Redwood forests. I don't think I would want to do all the legwork involved myself, but it's an amazing and memorable kind of art to make.

    It's easier to do it with the images arranged the other way then you go slightly cross-eyed to get the effect. A bonus of doing it this way is that the images can be much larger so you get more clarity and 3d effect.

      Those of us who practice parallel 3d in the manner it was done since the days of 3D Daguerreotypes do not agree. I can not view cross eye formats but have a collection of antique stereoviews (7 inch wide cards) which can be freeviewed (with practice) or use various types of viewers. Freeviewing is a matter of training your eyes to diverge rather than cross. Fifty years ago there were a few clubs for 3D photographers of which I know one still exists. Part of the problem was that there were people who worked in cross eye, parallel and anaglyph methods and each had trouble viewing the work of the others.
      Canon makes an $1800 3d lens suitable for their R5. There are several adapters made for 3D but most fail when you get too close. IMHO the 5mm spacing is a bit narrow for the lenses being used. I understand that Zerene stacker has a stereo routine but I have never looked into it since I am satisfied with normal focus stacking for now. As always, I fear 3D will die again and again due to the lack of standards agreed on by all. I still prefer the card formats as used in the 1850-1950 period before Stereo Realist and Viewmaster made Stereo easy and less detailed than before.

      Whichever way works for you, use it! I could only see crosseyed 3d for 50 years, then all of a sudden I looked at a parallel image on Instagram, and it just worked ever since.

    • @TonyGrant.
      @TonyGrant. 10 месяцев назад

      I can do it both ways but crosseyed is much better because I can do it with an image no matter how large it is. There is a limit to how far your eyes can diverge which limits the parallel method. @@3d420com

    I've done the same effect in normal photography before and it's pretty cool. I take one picture, move the camera left or right a couple of inches (ideally the distance between our eyes), and then take the second picture. Then put the left picture on the right and the right picture on the left. It works best with many vertical objects of different distances like trees of a forest, or cemetery tomb stones.

      I think you might be crossing your eyes instead of using the parallel view technique (the pics on my website are oriented for cross-eyed viewing but the ones in this video are the opposite). Cross-eyed viewing allows much larger images so I prefer it!

    • @3d420com
      @3d420com 10 месяцев назад

      @@MicaelWidell It can be done with two. The trick is to align the stereo on a center axis instead of the standard stereo window. If it's aligned to the front window, a two image 3d will wag instead of wiggle.

      @@julianm12345 But it does. I tried it on the images in the description too. I saw them in 3D. At least 2D layered 3D. Unless I'm refocusing subconsciously further away? @julianm12345 10 месяцев назад

      @@ArcanePath360 I'm not sure whether in this case you're seeing a "hollow face" type illusion. To get it to work properly using cross-eyes you need the original right eye view on the left and vice versa. There's not a lot of difference between the images on Micael's example, but you can see it's got a left eye view on the left.

    • @ArcanePath360
      @ArcanePath360 10 месяцев назад

      @@julianm12345 Well since the images combine into one I'm not sure it's important which eye sees which image. The final result I'm sure is the same, since the original perspective from both images would be restored in either case.

    • @julianm12345
      @julianm12345 10 месяцев назад

      @@ArcanePath360 The left eye has to see the image taken from the left viewpoint, and the right from the right. If you have the left viewpoint image on the left then you would have to merge the images by looking "through" the screen. By swapping the images around you get the correct image to each eye by going cross eyed. I think most people find the cross method easier. Although I think it causes more eye strain.

    I think the 3D effect of the floating merged image is more pronounced when the image is photographed with a more shallow depth of field. Very clever and simple system that apparently works well. I guess a modified version where the two images could be separated more would result in an even greater 3D effect.

    You can also view these pictures using an old stereoscope viewer. They were popular in the first half of the last century. They were made by several different companies, Keystone View Company was one of the best known. If you look around, you should be able to find one for well under $100.
