I remember being genuinely shocked at just how angry Liu Bei was in this scene. I understand it, of course, but to see this humble, almost passive man growl with such anger... makes me wonder how much trouble Cao Cao would've had with Liu Bei had he shown this sort of anger toward him.
@@darkarpatron The sad thing is that it was this very anger that led to Liu Bei becoming reckless due to still grieving and his forces being defeated in no small part to Zhu Ran's fire attack at Yi Ling.

Liu Bei died shortly after the battle of Yi Ling. Some say it was illness, some say it was injury, some say it was depression, some say it was retribution from the heavens, and so on. His cause of death is still a bit of a mystery
I love how Liu Bei looked back then, both his looks where noble and angelic like, and when they "KILL HIS BRRROOOOTHERS!!!!!" I really felt his pain and was like "yeah kill those damn hyperactive Wu assholes!" While I realized that he lost "his wings" I supported him regardless. The new younger peon like? Meh, but I too miss the one portrayed here, he acted like a noble king/knight of sorts, and his crown looks simple enough. Just saying no need to literally make him a peasant looks and voice
This is by far the most epic battle in Dynasty Warriors, the music, the emotion, I mean I dont remember much Liu Bei must have been really depressed through out the course of the battle and only got worse when Sun Xian Shang saw him on the battlefield. This battle just screams EPIC.
In the real life battle of yi ling liu bei set up his forces to camp in the hilly forests , unfortunately after having them sitting there for over a year they were weakened , wu realized and set up a devastating counter attack where all of shu's camps were set on fire and they were forced to retreat, it was recorded that the bodies of shu soldiers literally filled the nearby river to such an extend that it clogged it and created a dam of human bodies

Things seemed to be going great, as Shu was rising in power. However, Guan Yu was captured in a Wu ambush and executed, with his son suffering the same fate. This threw Liu Bei into a rage matched only by Zhang Fei. However, Zhang Fei's anger caused a rift between him and his men, leading them to kill him in his sleep. Both wings were torn, and the Battle of Yi Ling, a shameful loss for Liu Bei, was the result of this outrage.
The classic Dynasty Warriors. I hate how Dynasty Warriors 7 and 9 locks you in the historic route. One of the coolest things about old DW is the fact that you as the player is the centerpiece of changing history. That as a Liu Bei player... (as well as a Guan Yu player), this battle in the older games was always so tragic. Allies are now bitter enemies... in DW5 husband and wife now must battle... but as Liu Bei... I know I must get past her, and destroy Sun Quan for killing my brother. Tragic... even when I win the battle and defeat Wu in the old games... it's a hollow victory.... (though I did like Liu Bei's story in DW6 having Liu Bei spare Sun Quan, making it less hollow)... but in DW7 and 9... you can't even get a victory. *Sighs* Being locked in the historical route really makes me lose my motivation to play modern DW games. Why should I even choose a kingdom if they will always lose in the end to Jin....?
@@lostescape419 Yeah, I wouldn’t go so far (especially now after years of getting used to it) as to say adding Jin was a mistake. Rather, I kind of wish DW games would compromise the way DW8 did by having both the historical and hypothetical routes, therefore giving the option for ppl who dug the historical tragedy aspect that came from DW7 while not making the game seem like there is no point to players more used to the ‘change your fate’ stories of the Classic DW era. Although having Empires releases DOES help in a way sense the entire point of those games are changing history.

Having both the historical and hypothetical routes in the game was a genius way to have both the tragedy of the original Three Kingdoms period while also allowing the player to change history should they chose to take the steps to do so. DW8 really is the best of both worlds.
Alot of people I have talked to are torn between this and Avenging Battle for Yi Ling. I think this suits Lu Xun's side of it better in that he must live up to Lu Meng's legacy. Where Avenging Battle is more suited for Liu Bei. I like this song WAY better though
SSX's DW5 ending made me lawl, crying over Liu Bei after she ripped his guts out with her chakrams just 10 seconds earlier. They really need to make this the basis for all Yi Ling battle themes in the DW series. It's absolutely perfect. Yi Ling was easily my most-played stage in DW5 mainly because this music is so badass (though the fact that I got to deal the Shu army a massive defeat they never really recovered from was a close 2nd). Is this theme in any of the DW7 DLC packages?
Yeah I also remember the uh long haired "pretty boy" with the curved sword which fights for Wu (I forgot his name but I believe he proposed the fire attack at Cow Cows (i know) naval fleet used to have a awesome voice too, its like many of the good voices has left. Liu Bei Actually sounded kind and angelic, and the "they killed my BRRRRRROTHERS!" scene just made me feel his pain. The new one sounds... like he is the host of some childrens show, I miss the "real" Liu Bei.

Wu was rife with internal conflict, and Shu was lambasted on all sides by the other two kingdoms banding together. Of course, at the end of it all, Sima Yi marches in and sort of just takes over China because he feels like it and, whateva, he's Sima Yi, he do what he want.

Anybody here play Kessen 2? This seems like the most apt place to ask. The reason being that I am curious as to how many of you have noticed the number of big names from that game finally being pulled out of the generic officer ranks in DW7. Xiahou Ba was the best for the red Wei. And Ma Dai was pretty cool with his Davey Crocket getup.

Sucks for Shu being the first kingdom to fall out of the original three kingdoms. Followed by Wei which Sima Yi, turned into Jing and lastly was Wu getting defeated by Jing. So out of the three kingdoms the real winner was Wu being the one that lasted the longest.
Man i tell you i just wish Shu would have triumphed personally...they would have had liu bei bit his tongue and took down wei then he could have taken down wu as well...but instead he gets his ass kicked at Yi Ling..oh well...
Actually it is not historically close, while the books (romance of the three kingdoms) speaks of Liu Bei dressing like his people. History itself says nothing about this, on the contrary, Liu Bei wore regal, expensive outfits when visiting his "equal people" which he often visited at random by mealtime, and there is much proof that he in fact punished, or even killed those that had nothing to serve him (to the point where a poor man slew his wife and served her to him in fear of his anger).
Other historical facts. -He never fought in the battlefield. -He was not a direct descendant of the Han empire, not even close, but he already had a powerful army when the peasant rebellion attacked so they "chose to believe him" -The "three brothers" never shared an oath, but they where supposedly close, so close they shared the same bed several times (kinda gay no?) -It was Zhuge Liang, that as means of a political campaign proposed this "land of virtue" The roman Liu Bei is cool though...
@Puolakanaho If Guo Jia didn't die, Cao Cao would've won at Chi Bi and would've made Wei the undisputed super power. If Sun Ce didn't die, he would've conquered Cao Cao's capital and the kingdom of Wei probably would not exist. To be honest, things could've went either way. That's what makes Three Kingdoms so interesting.

Koei should have NEVER added the Jin dynasty... they really have been dragging down the series since DW7.

Sucks for Shu being the first kingdom to fall out of the original three kingdoms. Followed by Wei which Sima Yi, turned into Jing and lastly was Wu getting defeated by Jing. So out of the three kingdoms the real winner was Wu being the one that lasted the longest.
Man i tell you i just wish Shu would have triumphed personally...they would have had liu bei bit his tongue and took down wei then he could have taken down wu as well...but instead he gets his ass kicked at Yi Ling..oh well...

Actually it is not historically close, while the books (romance of the three kingdoms) speaks of Liu Bei dressing like his people.
History itself says nothing about this, on the contrary, Liu Bei wore regal, expensive outfits when visiting his "equal people" which he often visited at random by mealtime, and there is much proof that he in fact punished, or even killed those that had nothing to serve him (to the point where a poor man slew his wife and served her to him in fear of his anger).

If Guo Jia didn't die, Cao Cao would've won at Chi Bi and would've made Wei the undisputed super power.
If Sun Ce didn't die, he would've conquered Cao Cao's capital and the kingdom of Wei probably would not exist.
To be honest, things could've went either way. That's what makes Three Kingdoms so interesting.
