This is one of the best performances I ever heard. I don't mean only technically. The piece is also a very difficult piece in the sense to get a story-line from the beginning to the end. This organist does this totally! Nice thing is that he seems to play on the same instrument were Marie-Claire Alain did her recording long ago of this piece. I still love that recording. But this is the first time that I hear the piece played with a real sincere emotion! Bravo Daniel! René Veen
Love that vox!!!! VF Gonzalez organ The Durufle's loved this instrument! Church rose window was damaged several years ago. Some of the windows by PP Reubens Vincent is a genius. Hands are like octopuses. This is an aesthetic experience!
This is beautiful! My appreciation also goes to the video producer. I used to sit right behind the organist at one church in Tokyo and observe like a hawk. After about a year of steady attendance, one of them asked my advice on a piece--and I actually had something to say! I'm too old to learn to play the organ, but I get such vicarious joy out of observing organists. Beautiful playing by Mr. Dubois!
This is fabulous! These pieces are so difficult, but so beautifully played. (I enjoyed the camera work as well. All of the angles show non-organists just what is going on at the console.) Thank you for sharing your talent on You Tube!
Just such a wonderful piece by Jehan Alain, but such a pity that it is not publicly performed very often. One can only dream what may have been if his life had not been cut so short.
Alain may very well have been the Mozart of the 20th Century if not the Bach. His premature death in World War II robbed us of one of the great talents of composition. This piece was written when his sister Odile died in a skiing accident. Hence it may well be considered as a requiem in memory of her.
One of my favorite pieces to hear, read, study, and play for my own edification & development. I may have found a new favorite organist today! I can't wait to see and hear more! :)
He's not reading the music, but "feeling" it. There are those out there who criticize such physical movements, but I love the way Vincent expresses with his body movements and facial expressions, in addition to virtuoso playing. It's no wander he was chosen for Notre Dame!
Oh, why those bells in the 1 to 2 transition, one of my favorite moments in this masterpiece wrecked, in a piece of many wonderful moments. Great performance though, for sure!
What a beautiful music, not so much known or played, alas ! We just can regret a more modern organ, with silent shift of registers… Thank you for sharing
I know that Alain's musical interests included Jazz, but the energy and movement in the 3rd danse sounds so much like the _orchestral_ "Hollywood" jazz (ofttimes over the top and tending toward "wild") heard in many 30s/40s American dance/musical films, that I find it hard to believe that he wasn't influenced thereby to some extent, at least in regard to Trois Danses.
Those clangorous bells at the start of Deuils were very annoying for me! An interesting compilation (ie, the two different organs - wonder why that was done?) and a some very distinctive interpretations, some of which I didn't like but others that were breathtaking. Overall, I find this certainly one of the better performances on YT - most impressive, and an enviable technique. :)
I so nor know idea those bells in Deuils are, but they are most definitely NOR in the Marie-Claire Alain performance of these pieces, nor do I believe they are in the score. Other than that, this is a masterful performance.
Imagine that Sir Edward Elgar had fallen under a bus, just before he wrote Enigma and the great masterpieces and you can grasp the enormity of the tragedy here of his early death. I have just started learning these starting with bars 78 to 98. I shall move on when they are note perfect and memorised. Can anyone think of a better organist than Mnsr. Dubois,. I cannot. I would recommend to anyone who admires the ridiculous Cameron Carpenter to listen to this and learn the error of their ways. Incidentally I rather like the bells..
How about Jean-Baptiste Robin? You should listen to his Litanies from Jehan Alain. Not better I should say (I am not in a position to compare these giants) but the same formidable level.
This is one of the best performances I ever heard. I don't mean only technically. The piece is also a very difficult piece in the sense to get a story-line from the beginning to the end. Bravo Maestro! You play beautifully, your deep musicianship moves me. Thank you for sharing your gifts!

Amazing hypnotising music :))) Love very much!
Splendide interprétation bravo Vincent Dubois !

This is my very favorite piece of organ music, more than anything by Bach, wonderful watching it being played, wonderful
Vincent your Alain is marvelous. You have a magnificent talent.

Veeeery glad to find this again about 35 years after taperecording it from greek radiovision
Besr marks!!! Giuseppe Perego Monza 16.2.1962

M. Dubois is an angel playing the music of heaven!
Mr. Dubois is one of the Titans of the 21st Century. Keep your ears open for this one… for many year to come. Sent with love and gratitude. CVD
Une narration poétique magistrale! Une interprétation émouvante de vérité!
Superbe!!!!
Bravo, c'est fantastique !!!
One of my favorite pieces to hear, read, study, and play for my own edification & development. I may have found a new favorite organist today! I can't wait to see and hear more! :)
***** Rewatched! I am envious of his facility and the effortlessness of his performance. Bravo!

A very special and valued performance. I feel as Alain himself would have performed these three movements!
He's not reading the music, but "feeling" it. There are those out there who criticize such physical movements, but I love the way Vincent expresses with his body movements and facial expressions, in addition to virtuoso playing. It's no wander he was chosen for Notre Dame!
I have loved this piece over half my life. This performance is comparable to that of the composer's late sister, Marie-Claire Alain.
Beautiful rhythms, playing and registrations!
What a pleasure to hear this magnificent work played so well.
Very nice! Thank you!
Superb choice of registration throughout.
Mind blowing!
Excellent performance!
A nice performance !!!
"Ritmica, armonia, timbrica. Ovvero Organo Francese
Una obra impresionante!
It gets rather spooky with the bells just as the second Dance begins...
Wonderfully played. Thank you for sharing!
Very nice performance! !!!
I begin to know and apreciate Alain thanks to the William W. Austin book about XX century music
Polliniskill and what a piece
The legacy after Chopin on piano all this great French organcomposer has suceeded
Incredible like Chopin, symfonic fantasie :Reger in beuty

Strong nice harmonic sound, that even Messiaen Dupre Durufle has

This Great piece three dances, should if possible be togerher with Regers symfonic fantasy,Chopins dubble third etyd+Fminor ballad

Ronald Westman I don't think they're part of this performance either. They sound like clock bells in the church.
It actually adds an eerie ambience to that section of the piece.
If this from 2012 then there is not excuse for the bad picture and sound quality.
He has much same mouth as Alain. A relative?
Why's he wearing headphones in the second Danse? Is it a digital?
Purtroppo in Italia è rimasto ancora qualcuno che chiama musica quello che producono Blanco, Federico e i Maneskin....Giuseppe Perego Monza 16.2.1962

Has anybody LOOKED at the score of this work?? You MIGHT notice that most people get it SO SO wrong, including this fellow. CAIN'T EVEN LISTEN TO IT!!
Kay Porter what 's so bad about his performance then?
