The one thing they both struggle with….suffering. So many struggle with this including myself. As a 90 year old lay woman, nearly 50 years a a Secular Discalced Carmelite contemplative, I would like to offer my own thoughts on this, or rather a flash of insight given me once in the 1970’s when pondering on this when at a very low state. I have had much suffering in life, physical, mental and spiritual. I once read Fulton Sheen’s Mystical Body of Christ, and had read and meditated many times on St.Paul’s teaching on this……how every part of our bodies affects other parts and the whole, both physically and spiritually. I suddenly understood that my own sins affect another part of the Mystical Body, but also that the whole Mystical Body being Christ must also in some way pass through a “crucifixion”, must DIE before Resurrection. I was looking at a small very sickly baby when this happened, and its mother, and being angry with God. It was as though I heard an inner voice saying, “your own sins are part of the cause”. This was before my vocation to Carmel, where I was given the name Maria Cecilia dell’Incarnazione, but became very ill after one year in enclosure and not permitted to make vows , but advised to join the Secular branch. The Incarnation and the Mystical Body form much of my spiritual thinking still. Forgive my interruption here, but I just thought it might help. I was very privileged to receive this necessary grace for me, which helped me greatly.+

came to the Church (Catholic) late in life, about 4-5 years ago searching for something bigger out there, its been great for me the mass and reading, but sadly here in South Australia there is pretty much no community, i know the names of about 4 people at church, two being priests and one a deacon.. after mass people walk out and ignore each other. Its very sad and no new people I see at times come back especially younger people anyone under 50!
I have had a similar experience here in northeast Wisconsin, USA. I have come to find out that a single life within the church isn't vibrant. I guess I understand now after being back in the church for 10 years. Sometimes, I join the activities (book club or lecture series) when I'm up for it. It is kinda lonely being alone in a group, so I have to be prepared emotionally. I've gotten used to how things are & sometimes there is a social element. I visit different parishes routinely to hear the wisdom of different priests....& to say hello to anyone I cross the path of. I'm very glad to be "part😅 of the club" regardless. God bless you & your journey! 🙏
Back in my day the iching pictogram of wisdom is a square this symbolized rightful growth.with constraint and containment. I now seek wisdom in the catholic Bible, but the iching was moving in the correct path also.
Much the same here. But we practice something called the devil bite. We always pray before meals. If someone takes the first bite before we thank God, they took the devil bite. They lead us in prayer. I may not get them to mass, but we always pray together. I also bring a Bible to Christmas and I read Luke’s gospel of the Christmas story before we open gifts. Small things that hopefully keep us focused.
The issue of suffering is the only good argument against the existence of God. There are numerous great arguments for the existence and Goodness of God.
With respect to the problem of suffering I have recently been reflecting upon the fruits of the first and second world wars. The America’s Game Documentary about the life of one of my heroes, Tom Landry, showed me an example of the kind of truly heroic character and virtue that can only be brought forth from such times. In the realm of fiction, it seems to me that the Batman and Superman characters and stories are born of a deeply American Christian Greatest Generation commitment to advancing the common good with no regard to self promotion. This seems to me to be a spirit missing in our times and the stories our young people are formed by today.
I wonder how many people who “gave up their faith” went to church faithfully every Sunday and even weekdays. Mine did😢 I do, however wish we would have talked more about scripture and faith!

To add to Bishop Barron's answer on the underappreciated aspect of Catholisism: The world says that discipline is oppression. The Church says that discipline is freedom. People see Catholicism's rules as obstacles to freedom instead of seeing them as the keys to release us from prison.
The Eucharist. Sometimes, the Eucharist is exposed in the monstrance. If not, Jesus is always present in the holy Eucharist in the tabernacle behind the altar.
My paster is something. I have been trying my best, but I can't remember anything from his homily after Mass. I felt so bad so I asked others... They have the same issue. So, I can't invite my non-Catholic friends to my church :(
We sent our children to a catholic school in the hopes that the catholic ethos we embraced at home would be re- enforced at school. We were Sunday mass goers, practIced our faith as best we knew , were involved with community life in the church etc yet today my daughter is in a gay relationship(she refers to it as a marriage) although still attends mass with her adopted children- my son is divorced and periodically attends mass althiugh he considers himself catholic. So despite our best efforts My husband and I didn't succeed passing on the faith we practice to our children. Saddens me.
Bishop Paproki, why does canon law 129:2 assert "cooperate" instead of 'collaborate'? Why do you assert faith and science are "compatible" instead of inseparable and qualitatively equal the keeping of which in uncertainty is belief?
The way to keep children INTERESTED IS ALSO to SAY PRAYERS BEFOR BED . TEACH THEM how to converse to God , to call on the HOLY SPIRIT when feeling sad , afraid or angry. The EMOTIONAL- CONNECT is the WAY to Go. 😊 TELL KIDS : JESUS is in your HEART.
@nancyhon406 Get them involved in Church (altar server, service hours for the poor, etc.) Take them on pilgrimage. Have Bible studies with them in addition to homework. Decorate your house with images and refer to those images like family members (Papa Jesus & Mama Mary). Teach them to pray routinely and instantaneously. Tell them that God loves them more than Mommy and Daddy. Help them build a relationship with Christ and His Church.
The Irish missionary did a great job in Hongkong and Macao too so is the Italian only when time change to Chinese Communism in the last 10+ years. 😢😢😢Sad. Please pray for them.
It is never about what you get out of it. It is about our Lord Jesus Christ, and entering into the holy mass receiving him body, blood soul and divinity. It’s not what you get out of it. It’s what you put into it. Cardinal I can’t believe he even said that.
Bishop B. You and I are similar. Favorites lol. Moms Saints 101,102. Both scorpions. Lol. When I found you I understood right away. Only difference is that you will go to heaven and I'll probably go to hell, lol.
If you think about it, God has anticipated these egoistical proclivity and used that same inclination to bring people together. Hopefully, with a spark of divine intervention, they will wake up and find back the path to Him. It is actually impossible yo get rid of the good. We can only suppress it.

it is possible that Copernicus was a priest. he delayed publishing his De revolutionibus orbium coelestium libri VI for 30 years because he knew it would be controversial and it was subsequently banned by the Catholic church. it would be nice (and novel) for bishops not to distort the history of the Roman church.
Has anyone listening to this left the Church because you found the entire Biblical story utterly unbelievable? I am on a journey of trying to find my faith again but that point of believing what has, in my life anyway, been unbelievable seems impossible to surmount. It feels like I can, at best, force myself to believe and that feels disingenuous. I have come to realize that, at least socially, I am a Catholic. I love the Sacraments. I love my Catholic prayers. I am Pro-Life. I love the notion of a simple, working class man with a simple faith and love for his wife and children, as well as his fellow man. I worry about this inability to accept the supernatural. I struggle to accept that Jesus walked on water, raised the dead, turned water into wine, etc. Personally, I love what Jesus had to say. I find I don’t need the miracles to believe what he had to say. Has anyone been where I am and what did you do to reconcile your reason?
To help you believe in the reality of supernatural life, you could look at contemporary miracles, near death experiences, terminal lucidity, and the Shroud of Turin. But about Jesus' miracles, not even his enemies denied he performed them.

So despite our best efforts
My husband and I didn't succeed passing on the faith we practice to our children. Saddens me.
Don't beat up on yourself. Everyone is confused. Even the pope.
@nancyhon406
Get them involved in Church (altar server, service hours for the poor, etc.) Take them on pilgrimage.
I do not feel fatherhood from b Paprocki at all 😢, I can’t wait to move out of Illinois
I beg to differ.
Bishop Barron is NOT one of the Church's greatest theologians. He is, in fact, one of the Church's greatest apologists.

it is possible that Copernicus was a priest. he delayed publishing his De revolutionibus orbium coelestium libri VI for 30 years because he knew it would be controversial and it was subsequently banned by the Catholic church. it would be nice (and novel) for bishops not to distort the history of the Roman church.
Yes I always found this and learned loads from Bible in a Year podcast with Fr.Mike- it’s free on YT or on Ascension Presents. It’s wonderful and includes reading the Bible each day, explaining the Bible.short prayer- beautiful!!❤️🙏☘️
B. BARRON, " TWO ' NO' In the catholoc Church is a ' YES' . Yr statement is an EXAMPLE of DOUBLE SPEAK. As far as i know two ' No' is a (NO)² or ( No × No.) U mentioned a relevant point: view of church on sexuality & should have encouraged ppl to google abt " the THEOLOGY OF tHE BODY" . THAT & PRO-LIFE. Please state it as it is.
Would you call your priest to dismiss the charge against me?
Sitting so far apart is odd and not comfortable to the eyes.

Bishop Barron is going to have to come out and support the Pagan Democrats or Christianity.
You forgot to mention the National guard going to all of IL inspecting cars for drugs and illegal weapons. It could be done by machines in fast food drive thrus with AI or at sporting events. Way to be a social justice advocate!
