I thought Jared Leto's interpretation of Neumann was almost a caricature, but man he NAILED this guy. You gotta give it to Adam, he certainly knows how to pitch, persuade and talk to his audience.
He's a sociopath. Lying and stealing is like breathing.
I was just about to write a comment like this. Neumann is a total character, it’s all so deliberate and weirdly magnetizing
this is just a guy who learned exactly how to sound "humble" and "understanding" but it still feels scammy whenever he honeymouths
Pretty charismatic. I can see how that helped him lead people to run his vision.
I trust him
Nothing about this person is humble . ..
Man, Jared Leto is one of the most talented actors I’ve ever seen. His impression of Adam is absolutely perfect, I’m amazed 🤯🤯🤯
I think Leto's version was more over the top than the real version of Neumann, but it worked very well for entertainment purposes.

I'm curious, why do you say he has no integrity?
@@2b3pro probably because of how he ran the company.
He is great at sounding intelligent. He must have read a lot as a child, and must be very intuitive on what people want to hear.
Yeah, sadly it doesn’t surprise me. Not these days when emotion is actively encouraged to run wild and logic is a dirty, offensive question.
Forget about WeWork here. His communication style is masterful. By studying the way he communicates I can now understand why people overpaid to invest.
Adam should write his own Carnegie book, 'How to win friends and influence people: the Wework way'

@@Prxyshj it's not just that the value went down. The reason value went down was as a result of the Epiphany that the per-unit numbers were not as glamorous as they were made out to be. The company valuation today is still not small, standing on more than $23 billion with revenue of $2.1 billion..He could have much more than the $1.5 billion had he been a better manager. But he's a salesperson, perhaps the best in the world in that, not a CEO.
He uses "i understand" alot bt at same time very calm and patient not easy to provoke. A master indeed.
I’ve been the first foreigner, since 2018, at WeWork Hangzhou, the home of Alibaba and Geely. I’ve had great time and our company has grown threefold during that time. We’re at the very center of the city and the atmosphere is cool and relaxed, international. I like the design and it’s a very spacious two floor, beautiful area. I have “Neumann’s universe” on my backyard and it is a great place to work.
I pay less than $1k for our whole team a month and have a nice, cozy own office with a lot of space for meetings and events - plus the staff is really nice and friendly.
I do understand the challenges WeWork has faced - and the criticism towards Neumann and his colleagues. But a fact is that we have a great creative space, it’s really nice to go there every day and our company has been thriving in it.

Yes, weasel words will eat you from the inside…..- like ringworm (which Adam probably has/had 😆😆)
He didn’t care about the company “philosophy” or of “higher consciousness,” he was all about seeing just how far he could push the envelope with all of the people in his path, especially the people that mattered. He charmed them with his unflinching self-confidence, and his crazy “fun” personality and his only goal was to see how far he could get. While Im sure it bothers him immensely that he is no longer a part of the company, he is riding high on the fact that he was able to do what he did. He even ends up far better off financially than most people. Our society makes people of his kind like “Gods,” and the truth is, these people are con artists, manipulative, and self-serving. There is nothing “Godlike” in their actions or sentiments. They are wolves in sheep”s clothing. One last comment, he is and will not ever take responsibility for the real part he played in the company. He will spin everything that happened by an explanation that he was innocent and was fired at great loss for the company, and basically that only he had this great vision that the other investors did not have and that eventually the company would have grown had he stayed at the helm, even though that was nor would be the case. The Theranos company leader is very similar and to her, it was all about the fact that she “made it, “sure she didn’t “keep” it, but that’s not what matters to them. It was that they wanted to become worth billions, that was their goal. It’s not even about the money. Power and high status were what they were really going after. Interesting that it’s cloaked in language that sounds like they are going to “help man” and “help the world” by their companies. Which of course they will retort to when asked why. They will retort to the fact that their “ends” somehow justified their means.
you know what? how can we judge them on doing what they did, when we can't do the same. How easy is it for some average guy to build a whole company and exponentially rocket its valuation to billions? It is unimaginable. He is a great speaker, and a master persuader and manipulator... I think we should learn from him, for he did what no one else could. He is a visionary...in getting rich.
@@AM-jx3zf well that all depends upon your values. Yes, people like you are very impressed with someone like that, and are easily conned and by people like him. He was like a cult leader and you know how popular cults are. The new cult leaders of today are just like Adam Neumann and there are a plethora of examples in the many series out today. It’s all smoke and mirrors. People like them have only self-interest in mind but disguise as other centered. It’s all a con job. I do NOT look up to people like that nor should anyone else but in todays culture people are mesmerized by them. It seems as if the end, (making billions), is achieved, it doesn’t matter the means. We couldn’t live in a world where people don’t care what it takes to get where they want to go, and use any means necessary and so “use” others and any other tricks (like total self-confidence) to achieve it. What about ethics and morality? This is where the problem lies.
He should create a great political party someday! No joke he has all the skills ! 🤷♀️😂
A brilliant response: I was worried I’d see some spin doctors in the comments. Your comment speaks to his psyche.
He could only exist because of the greed of others. Banks and investors gave him billions. If they did that because he's "charming" then they deserve to lose it. But thats not why they did it. They played the valuation game. Employees gave wework their time and lower salaries for stock options thinking they were going to be microsoft secretaries, and not have to work their entire adult lives. Greed is present at every level including the public rabidly looking for a hot stock so they dont have to work their entire lives. Personally, anyone with a 401K is part of the system, and a step further, anyone that is an American has benefited from how this system works as it has elevated this country over all others. 20+ trillion in debt- we literally print our own money as we need it! Did anyone here send back their "stimulus" money? I doubt it. We are all part of the "problem".
So, as easy as it is to point the finger at Adam Neumann, remember that he only exists because we allow it as a society and culture. Money aside, wework has been a boon to the people that were able to use those spaces and what is the longterm value generated by all of those people? Is there one person who sat in a wework and built a billion dollar company by starting there? I dont know, but there is more happing then wework losing money, which will change over time.
The lack of sincerity is hilariously entertaining.
Interesting body language and behavior. He has worked on the constant eye contact and quarter smile. Very well rehearsed.

Adam Neumann "There's a sucker born every minute, you just happened to be coming along at the right time"
The WeWork story is about all that is wrong with the business world. Growth and valuation over fundamentals. The idea of being part of the next big thing blinded everyone. Mr. Neumann knew how to take advantage of the opportunity. He's not the only one to blame. His idea was over-valuated, but you have to agree that it was attractive at the time.
No, WeWork wasn’t “attractive” at the time, lmao. It was a scam through and through.
Edit: Can someone translate what David is trying to say down there?
Completely uniformed about wework, but given that this is supposedly someone offering shared workspace, what is so valuable that they can do that someone else can't do almost immediately.
The only thing he did was give a good initial impression which is what you do when you want to sell something, it's like a pretty shiny box that you have no idea inside is just not worth nearly as much as it looks.
This was his power, the idea of shared working space wasn't new or unique. Adam just added some nice furniture, made it seem like a "fun" place to be and had an app so it was convenient and fit with modern thinking.
The biggest problem was no one stopped to ask if this was worth it because he just scared everyone into thinking that the shiny box might not be there and you wouldn't want to miss that, and it worked.
Only took so much time for people to finally wake up to all his BS
@@DanielSzilagyi Exactly, well said!

Lots to learn in this interview
When we see the nature of Neumann what we really see is the nature of ourselves. We are all unconsciously disposed to that 'special' person who comes along and disarms us and convinces us to follow him. He has domain knowing of this tendency in people and he makes maximum use of it. We must all learn more about ourselves so that we can spot people like Neumann and be ready to 'object' when it is required. That is what Neumann needed. WeWork might then have been a success.

As someone who works in the world of finance, it is absolutely mindboggling that anyone gave this guy money for his business. It's clear within 30 seconds that this guy is just hot air.
YEP agreed tbh it seems like esp nowadays, all these entrepreneurs in the startup/business world are just guys filled with nothing but hot air too
reminds me of the Theronas scandal.
I agree. Right away. Shyster. One that’s very good at shystering. Good for him in a way. They all fell for it.
I have seen the documentary they made of Adam, but listening to him shows me he is a true hustler, against the odds he came on top and that is it. In business, there are always losers and winners. I still dont see how Wework is that valuable, but again that just me.
That's "we"
The problem isn’t he tried and failed. Problem was wework would rent from his own properties at ridiculous lease. He’s not putting the company first like real founders should.
@@thesilly9040 "we" is a word owned by the We Company. Expect a cease and desist letter
@@howo357 he just said that it were 4 buildings...
Its not. The emperor has no clothes. As long as you believe he wins
Would love to see an analysis of this by The Behavior Panel , especially interested in what Greg Hartley would have to say about Adam and his business
I was thinking I wasn't going to like him, but I found this to be a great interview. The questions were tough, and his responses were well-spoken. One thing I noticed was the amount of presence he has in the moment. It occurred to me that being able to remain so grounded and to speak to what he believed to be true is his gift. Whether that "truth" is what we might agree with or not is up for debate, but he honestly believes what he says and that congruency in his words and body language does come across. I don't doubt that he's a great salesman and communicator, and frankly speaking, one must be great in order to "advance" as far as he has. That's charisma-I'm not saying he is a con man or not-but he certainly does speak with charisma.
He got paid over 1 billion by soft bank when he left I was in the meeting when Marcelo (interim CEO) addressed it after the first round of redundancies because people were angry, we were told this was to thank him for building the company and he will be advising in the handover… just admit this
Can see how he achieved what he did - he's the Alpha and the Omega of spin.
I can see how you would think that, and it's very unfortunate ...
really nice to see him now that he is humbled. I really like what he said that he had the chance to meet Tim Cook and all he did was talk, rather than listen and learn. Great guy, great stories and experiences.
I had no idea of any of this happened. Just stumbled upon the show. Jared Leto did an awesome job playing Adam. The real Adam Neumann has a gift!
This is a masterclass
"Revenue is vanity, Profits are sanity"
Duncan Ballantyne
Adam Neumann is richer than Duncan
@@MrDarknesstolight being rich and having good business sense don't always correlate 1:1.
So many comments praising how well spoken he is and his ability to answer hard questions. That’s undeniable. He’s a Jedi of spin. I see him as a very smart, well spoken, absurdly rich grifter.
he has a conman's rap.
One of the best ConMan SLEAZE BALLS of all time
Saying that he feels sorry for all the employees who had to leave "even thought he wasn't there because it happened after he left", as if the whole shitshow didn't happen because of him 😂 One thing I did understand was, he says he was given so much money he thought he was doing things right.. if everyone else was cheering you on, why would you think you had to do things differently? You'd grow cocky and you don't learn until you learn the lesson. He just didn't have enough business knowledge or experience.. and he wasn't lucky enough to encounter someone who convinced him what he was doing wrong. People most close to him were probably also drunk with money! Money blinds you, it's a human weakness... But in reality most startups fail, they try again a few times until they succeed. People lose jobs all the time because of startups going down. I think he had a cool vision, just bad execution, all the negative press about him is a bit unfair tbh
The only people who benefitted were close friends and relatives. Perfect example of Nepotism at large. Unfortunately the most charismatic always seem to hoodwink the most. It is only after the damage is done and the dust settles that a glimpse of the foul intention comes to light. Plenty of bad charma to him and his family has been earned.
@@basilvasiliu Unfortunately despite that bad karma they will probably all do great, and his kids will be our kids bosses
@@Tortilla.Reform the universe has an interesting way of eliminating bad karma, I wouldn't be so quick to conclude our children's future.
@@basilvasiliu this is just not true. Everyone in the company before 2015 benefitted and it’s IPO’d with a valuation of over a billion. This isn’t like an evil social media company, it improves the quality of life and work for many worldwide and is thriving current day. The only people that didn’t benefit were the unfortunate employees that were laid off.
This was very entertaining!
Some of the We work vision however does ring true. And I can see some of the style and original vision in the space today. I have a co-working membership with WeWork and I got this membership after all of this happened and I knew nothing about Adam Newman. However, the spirit of entrepreneurship, and not working alone and not feeling alone is definitely felt at WeWork- and has had a positive impact on my work and my life. Especially now that I work 100% remote. The spirit of community, while also having your own entrepreneurial work/remote work is very unique. And is not found at other places I’ve been such as Regus etc.
Anyone else watching this and amazed at Jared Leto's portrayal of this guy!?!?!?
This man has an amazing ability to word salad his way out of everything! Luv it 😍
"word salad his way out of everything" - that's a great way of putting it! I should try to remember that expression!
@John Goodrest *sweetie
He sold and got out at the right time and left employees and investors holding the bag. I missed how much money he quietly gave back to investors. He and Elizabeth Holmes are a perfect match.
Yes, Elizabeth Holmes came to mind immediately
Right
Holmes had nothing. Wework is a working business.
Not comparable to Theranos.
To be fair, he did this smarter than Elizabeth. When the board wanted her to step down she brought in sunny just making it worse and now she has nothing of own just found rich husband. He left with money and ensured his own and all original employees money. Every single person including Elizabeth lost for her company
The power of getting interview questions beforehand
I mean this as a compliment. Perhaps one of the greatest salesmen ever.
