This is a great video. Smith lake is one of my favorite lakes to hang out and bring people from out of state that visit. Never had a day without a fish there
Thanks for the tips! I've been seeing lots of people catching some amazing pike this year but I haven't gotten out! Gonna use these tips when I finally get out!
30yrs oregon 5months wisconsin. brands aside i did learn alot about pike. after only fishing steelhead/trout salmon in rivers. without any bass fishing opportunities and sturgeon obv dont count. the leads. the braided lead to steel lead. i get i lost 1 frog surface jig to a pike once i moved here in september. then i threw on another one with the the steel lead and caught him and got my frog back i have the video
what ive been told is that red trebles red hooks works? im sure it does but should i consider more than just basic hook and red hooks yers are black trebles, i know in summer season black colors work well but for ice fishin? idk im trying to learn
That's an awful lot of products to land what has to be the hungriest, most mindless freshwater game fish.... Just put a hook down the hole and wait... you likely don't even need bait. I guess if you're insecure about catching a pike then you could buy all that stuff. If you're a beginner, just know that I catch big pike quite successfully fishing with spoons attached to pretty much shoe-lace attached to a segment of hockey stick just fine. No bait. No dye. No tip up. And certainly no camera. Bait is the only thing worth your while to improve your fishing, everything else is a vestigial luxury.
First fish "DECENT PIKE!!!"..... .2nd fish..... "NICE PIKE!!!!" ..... Dude they are like 19 inches, most bass and walleye are bigger 😄 nice decent pike are double that size 😄
20 inch pike are decent pike. Extremely nice for eating. There's nothing wrong with decent pike. Contrary to popular belief, nobody catches 30+ fish every time the lure gets bit

That’s smith lake outside of kalispell
So why the braid to mono to steel leader? Will the braid not hold a good knot on the steel leader?
Yes it will don't worry, braid to steel is fine!
Thanks for the tips. I've done lots of open water fishing but scratching my head when it came to ice fishing.
What size line are you using?
Is this smith lake?
I’m confused he showed a 4 lbs line then said he used a mono to braid to steel line which one is it?
