THANK YOU, CHULA, for a most informative demo. ..Your value study is invaluable.! I purchased the Carlson book back in 1998 and it has been my 'bible' ever since.. .Always learning and re-learning key concepts.!
Love the channel, and am grateful for what Eric provides us for free. I just wish he wouldn’t interrupt and derail their flow, like he has a tendency to do.
I was looking and looking for this video with Chula. I had seen it once but couldn’t get around to starting to do it. Anyway, I can now! Thank you. I’m a painter in the stage that I don’t call myself an artist and have started watching your videos every day. Wonderful! Thank you! Love it. Ordered the Art Secrets.
Hi Watching from Halifax Nova Scotia - gorgeous sunny day. New to acrylic painting ( painting period!) and excited to find you and just watched Aimee Erickson’s tutorial on using only two values black and white. So enlightening. Looking forward to this with Chula.
Watching from Minnesota. You are the best! I watched the recent webinar & would love to go to Pastel Live but financially not possible now, maybe next year.
Hi Erik!! Thank you so much for all your help for us Artists !!! I am watching from Roseville California today. I was wondering if Chula ever uses an under painting out in the field.
A day late in France .... Fascinating concept! I' wondering if the seasons make a significant difference, when the light source is lower on the horizon?
I agree, bp.... seasons (and dawn/dusk) are determined by the ANGLE of the sunlight so source (1) and ground (2) true e.g. at midday level ground on the equator.... But when source is at an angle then one of the angled surfaces (e.g. a roof) might be more direct (@90 degrees) -so should become (2) - whereas level ground is now receiving "stretched" light (and heat if source is the sun) - so becomes (3). The sun isn't further "away" in Winter but light and heat are reduced because of the lower angle the same amount of light and heat has to penetrate much more atmosphere and cover a bigger area. (P.S. I enjoyed Chula's demonstrations and analysis of values, very valuable!)
PPS.... In his book Carlson deals with this in his Theory of Angles (Chapter 3 p.33ff). But then you have to deal with the problems/values of what he calls "local color" and if you master that the particular problems of snow!! 🙂
Why can't we get notified when these videos begin? I've been trying for weeks and get so bogged down in other garbage that I forget every single day!!!
I was like whaaattt what app or software is this? I remember a long ago vid noted some b&w app but that isnt on andriod. And tried looking fir notanlizer just now and it doesnt work on android newer phones 😢. Any other app or some software that shows b&w and the 4 level??
Eric, you are a treasure and are bringing all of this amazing content to us, the public art community. Just sometimes, the constant chatter interferes with the lesson being presented. Probably my personality issue, but I have a hard time following the lessons with the interruptions.
I agree with Karen that you are a treasure, Eric! As a word of explanation as to why the interruptions of the demonstrators presentation, your volume is much greater than hers; your baritone voice is much easier for those of us who hearing impaired to understand; it is difficult to understand females’ and children’s speech because because sibilant sounds are lost to the hearing impaired. I know that a great many members of your audience are over the age of 50 and fall into the hearing impaired group even though we may not have hearing aids yet. Just turning up the volume doesn’t work for us either because then your voice is booming even louder! Thank you for taking this into consideration. We all love you and all of the content that you produce and share so generously. 🙏☮️❤️🖖
