This is not a new thing. Occures often without police or wildlife rangers taking action. Protecting our heritage is not a 9 to 5 operation. Clearly when you bring your children along as seen in the crew of 14 poachers....there is no risk of capture. But we need to ask ourseves why.
Why are people resorting to this?
What has driven them to seek opportunity in raping the oceans; especially an area that is so loved, cherished and appreciate by its Kommunity.

Thank you for sharing this. Spread it far and wide! You should see what they do around Camps Bay! Brazenly just go about their business poaching and I think everyone just assumes it legit. Breaks my heart!
So its ok if a white man do it but when a coloured man do it then it becomes illegal
Law enforcement is powerless. This is the best way of combatting the poaching at the moment, by showing everyone what's happening. There are often 5 of these boats at Kommetjie every evening on calm days after 4.30pm - when the fishery enforcement knock off. So brazen.
The sea belongs to them now, while we are limited by quota and a few days per year
Should belong to our children, no? Or belongs to us and inherited by our children?
If we measure one crayfish a mm to short, we get a R1000 fine. The head-office of the most "powerful" navy is just round the corner in Simons Town. Nothings gets done, because we have criminals in parliament.

I’m sorry to say, but give people their livelihoods back and you’ll see a decrease in poaching. It all started when subsistence fishermen got there licenses taken away from them. So go on then, keep spouting vitriol from your ivory towers.

What does abalone mean to you privileged White people living in Kommetjie,Camps Bay,Sea point etc❓to us underprivileged it's a means of survival taking care of our families you people are too quick to judge research what happens to the confiscated abalone? It still ends up in Hong Kong and the far East just the government profits from it....😢
Hire them to patrol the coast and protect it. Educate them. Give them MONEY EQUAL to that they make from this.... And you will solve the problem.

Nice. Partly I agree. However check the kit. R1 000 000, right? Why not just fish instead, if they are hungery. Diving with cylinders at such a shallow depth is cheating. Diving in a community that spends its time in the water will be noticed.

@@capedoctor Well then just phone them and let them know it's happening at the time. Law Enforcement cannot be everywhere at all times. It's up to us to keep them informed and let them know when things are happening in real time. Same goes for the guy complaining about Camps Bay,if you see it happening,call straight away. Its like the leash laws. All over the place one sees people walking dogs off-lead in public areas, which is also illegal,and causes a lot of problems, but why do people get away with it,because nobody reports them. If one calls Law Enforcement they normally respond straight away,but they rely on us law abiding citizens to assist them too,this is how one fights crime.
