I don't think the fox is part of her imagination but rather a spirit that protects Nora, in the game we see so many ghosts yet only the fox isn't one? I find that hard to believe.
It makes sense you only see your self and the cannibals and everybody else is dismissed as a spirit and in most countries folklore foxes are considered to be mischievous and a thief in the Bible Face right up called the fox devil in disguise that was the story of a fox that stole keys and the nuns did a ritual and A hour later they found the fox dead at the front gate guess watch with the keys in his mouth that’s right his mouth

Ok, so besides the cannilys looking like that have the jaw of a t-rex and the fact that they look pretty suspicious by they're looks in general, there are other red flags that could've made Nora and her pet Lou turn back around and maybe try to get help elsewhere. First off, givin the name Butcher valley, you can already get the idea that there are a lot of butcher shops everywhere, but there is no sigh of even a pig leg or some cow meat. Second, when people offer you cake, they do so on a plate, not some dumb monument. And not to mention they are called meat cakes, and considering i didn't see any pigs or lamb anywhere around, it tells me that the cakes are made of something else. Oh and the cannilys eat those said cakes like they are actual t-rex. Also, she found a death note in the room she and Lou was staying in. So if I was Nora, before trying to get help in Butcher Valley, I would stay in the car and try to contact someone like a faimly member, friend, or 911 if I brought a phone. But if I don't have one, then I will just have to take my chances fixing the car myself, (which we know is possible since Nora was able to fix the car and get in it in almost less of a second while the cannilys was chasing her and her pet Lou), or trying to wave someone down for help.
Now if I was in a situation where I try to sleep, and the next thing I know I'm in a boiler room, I would first of, try to get a since of where I am and try to find something like a window to break and jump out of. Or find some kind of weapon to use if things get nasty. Then once I escape, I would then try to escape from their using a window to break and jump through. Or by opening a the front or back door. Now, Nora's biggest mistake was not using that kitchen knife earlier on the cannilys. Because think about it, you manage to invade two of the cannily family members and end up in a room with one of the cannilys who wants to play a game with you in exchange for help. What would you do? Now if I was Nora, I would have just straight up killed the cannily immediately since we don't know if they are going to keep the end of they're bargain. Same with the dad who ask us to find screws for him. The other mistake Nora made was not finishing killing a cannily family member after fighting with them. Because we don't want these guys getting back up more angrier than they where, and start chasing us. And keep in mind, these are the same people who tried to make you into another one of they're meat cakes. So there should be no remorse for killing these people.

You know you should be atleast a BIT a suspicious when you enter a valley called “Butcher Valley” and you get to a family called The Cannilys which sounds very similar to Cannibals,man the red flags are pretty big,Nora is literally the definition of “Blissful Ignorance”

Listen, if you are ever going to a place called Butcher Valley, you know there are a LOT of red flags because of the name.
The graphics are so... Weird, yet amazing. It has such a spooky art style!
Gameplay and dialog shows that the family is aware of Louis which means he is not a figment of Nora's imagination. Besides that, Louis the fox actually himself has dialog with the family, specifically the father, Lewis, to which Lewis the father responds to Louis the fox, which proves that he ALSO SPEAKS to persons other than Nora. The fox is present and interacted to and with.
Seems like a "normal" family to me :/

The mistake was that she saw the sign say 'Butcher Valley' and thought it was a good idea to ask for help. The name is the biggest red flag ever.

There's something about the cannilys which makes them feel like a family that really cares about each other it's honestly kinda nice compared to other examples of the cannibal family trope where the family is more abusive to each other
I’m kind of wondering, but could this game be inspired by the story “the hills have eyes” it is a real life event of this family that are cannibals. They hunt in the nearby mountains to its near forest trying to find people. They also have some deformation due to incest.
Reasons why I suspect the game might be inspired by it:
The area of where we are stranded looks like a mountain. I know mountains is different but most of the roads we know were once mountains
The fact they eat people is undeniable as it’s cannibalism
But if you look at all the people in the beginning of the game where the protagonist spoke to that lied of being stranded. They looked monstrous and deformed. Possibly because their families are siblings to each other. The protagonist looks different while the antagonists are monstrous/deformed. MEANING! Incest was what made them look like that.
Butcher valley sounds like the hills have meets Texas chainsaw massacre if you watched both films I’m a horror buff so I know a lot about horror movies and plot twists
