That one bridge which you pass under before Route 8 exit is a pedestrian bridge which leads to the Brandywine Falls. Very beautiful area in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
Nice ride. I enjoyed how the roads went from wht looked like the middle of nowhere to a big population center in no time, in the middle of the video. Thanks for sharing.
InterstateJD Thanks. This is probably why I like the route so much because it's do diverse. But both I-271 and I-480 hold their own as metro expressways. As for the title, I like to name videos that make you think a little bit. The answer is in the map route as it loosely takes the form of a parabola (think back to algebra class): A parabola is a two-dimensional, U-shaped, mirror-symmetrical curve. As for the valley, the route crosses the Cuyahoga River Valley twice at two great crossings.
TheSolarcatcher Thanks to you! I generally like the titles of the videos, they may seem simple but they help spruce up the video. I knew what a parabola was, I just couldn't get it to relate to the video, which was what caught my attention. Once again, thanks for your quick and explanatory reply!
8/4/2022 The area west of the Cuyahoga River bridge and State Rd. (St Rt 94) was an oak tree forested area. where I often played as a child. As you approach the Broadview Rd over pass there is an apartment complex where I lived, just before the I-480 construction began. That sound wall hides the complex In 1979 I met the engineer who designed the Cuyahoga River bridge, You might be amazed to find that that bridge was designed on an early Commodore computer (no hard drive). It seems scary when you think about it. ;-)
Nice ride! Know this area well! Though to be honest I went on 480 rarely as a kid cause my dad hated 480 and still does for some reason- not sure why- but 271 is very familiar to me- little trivia about 271 and OH 303 exit- that was where the old Richfield Coliseum was- where my Cavaliers and Cleveland Force played until 1994 when the Gund Arena opened- lotta memories of the place- and the place is now a part of the parks because a plan to develop the area was shot down. Always great to see your vids! Really enjoying your trip through my back yard and all the bridge info! Most I knew but I still learn new information! Road geeks for life!
According to my dad at one point they had plans to develop the area but it ran into some resistance from local residents and the park- so the plans to develop the intersection with restaurants, shop, etc failed and the Coliseum was all by it's lonely self for years
Heading across the Cuyahoga on 480 (and 90) jolted me while I drove across it. I was like "this is Cleveland? With a drop like that?" But yes...a very cool drive.
Memories. I enjoyed the I-271 portions of the series, but I'm shocked by how ratted the surface is south of I-480. I remember driving that stretch when the express lane construction was in progress. I was in Cleveland in 2012 and crossed the I-480 Cuyahoga River Valley bridge. I was awestruck by how high up we were...especially when I-480 is the LOWEST point of the nearby I-77 stack! I hope the Shoreway gets some airtime in your next set. Good stuff! Interesting note: the Turnpike has the other remaining occurrence of passing another interstate without connections: I-475 in Toledo. There's another one much closer to home, but that will be addressed in about a year. :)
Thanks! When I was thinking about doing this I thought this approach would be better instead of showing each route entirely. As you see each has its own specific set of features. I guess from my POV I was just amazed at how busy I-480 was compared to I-271. Don't know if it's shunpiking or avoiding constructions, but the road was an amazing city drive. As for the bridge, it is amazing and you have a great point about the I-77 stack. Didn't realize that. Also didn't know plans are in the works for I-475 also. That would make sense. As for the Shoreway, you'll see some of it next video along with a lot of other stuff.
Another thing I thought about: Although it's not an interstate (even though it's built to standard), Ohio 11 doesn't have a connection to the turnpike. I'm always puzzled by that.
Nice ride and good song choices, yeah that section of I-480 is pretty cool, crossing that bridge in person is a very interesting experience that the camera can't do justice to.
Nice ride - agree, that freeway is a monster. Nice seeing those in video.
Thanks for watching!

Also, not to be a nit-picker, but why is the video called the "valley parabola"? It doesn't harm the video at all, but it is a bit of a curious name.

Sorry for the overexplanation. Yeah, but that's my thought processes.

Thanks! I see that I-480 is the busier road. Thanks for that tidbit about Richfield Coliseum. I never knew it was way out there at one time!
According to my dad at one point they had plans to develop the area but it ran into some resistance from local residents and the park- so the plans to develop the intersection with restaurants, shop, etc failed and the Coliseum was all by it's lonely self for years
Great build up and a really excellent song choice! I enjoyed it!
Thanks! Glad you did!

Thanks and thanks for the photos. Yeah you really need to drive across that for yourself. Even if you do have a wide lens.
Great ride Kris - beautiful scenery too
Thanks Geoff!

Great video!

Funny that OH-14 (Broadway) is Exit 23 from both I-480 and I-271...
