Thank you. I watch your channel often. I had this pattern and this block was part of it. I knew I had made it before, but could not figure out how to attach. All I needed was your example. I had already cut the fabric based on the pattern. I love your direct approach to quilting. I am not as great it as I would like to be, but what it gives me to create is priceless. Thank you for all your tips. They make me better.
OK, you got me! I'm not a quilter, never had the interest. I make bags. But I've watched your videos mainly because you're really friendly and positive. Quilts however... hmmm... complicated, takes a lot of dedication... I don't know... But then this clever trick for maximising your output AND creating a clever block. Heck, you got me! Gotta try this! Well thought out while you were down that rabbit hole!
Karen, I see you as a genius and a super teacher!!!!!! Keep up the excellent work!!!!!! I am looking forward to using your skills when I am able to begin quilting again. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
Okay, you are a straight up genius! Sure, others may have come up with the idea before you, but you brought it to the masses and for me, it's the first time seeing it. Plus you show it in great, easy to follow detail. Now the 8 at a time version - mind blowing! Thanks for all you do for the quilting community - I love your videos and your great instructions!
Every time I tune in and see your face, I SMILE! Thanks for making time in your life for all us quilter's! Let's get new Merch, "Ask Karen". Love IT! Robin Rodgers
Oh my, I haven't made a quilt in 15 years and still have a whole room full of fabric. I've been thinking about giving it away but it's very painful to give up old friends. Seeing this video has re-ignited me to go make some quilts, the excitement is back!!! I'm so glad I found you. Thank you so very much, you're ideas are quite spectacular. Yes, really.
LOVE!!! While I may not make the blocks often, the bonus tips you provided are awesome!! And I'm sitting here in amazement with how you came up with the short cuts. Would love an "ask Karen" segment!!
Karen, you have mastered quilter’s math (feared by many) and progressed to an outstanding feat in quilter’s geometry ( baffling as to how you got there, but easy to duplicate once demonstrated). And the jig is genius. Thank you.
Karen, thank you taking the time to demonstrate this technique. Your tutorials are amazingly helpful. I can’t wait to share this with my quilting ladies.
Just discovered your tutorial on this block. I made a quilt several years ago with the “two blocks at once” method and loved the result. The pattern was in a Quilter magazine which I’ve since lost. I’ve been hunting high and low for the same method ever since! And tah dah! There’s your tutorial! Bless you x
Wow...last week all the stress of the season just caught up to me and I decided that it was just impossible for me to make a video. So a was on forced rest, trying my best to do nothing..when a subscriber sent me this problem. I love puzzles, the more geometrical the better. And this was the right problem at the right time. Just give me a moment to get the handout up on my website. www.justgetitdonequilts.com/patterns
I'm a retired teacher...i learned so much/enjoyed thoroughly bright gifted minds(like yours)! What a delightful quilting teacher like you😍... ThAnKs a million!
You are a genius! Thank you for the short cut. Yes I think you have a great idea on a weekly or monthly show Just ask Karen. I would absolutely love that.
You’re simply incredible!!! Thank you soooo much!!! I’m so happy I found this video. I’ve been following you from the beginning but I must have skipped this one! Fantastic!!
I LOVE your method for making these blocks!!! SO much quicker, easier and more accurate than the original method. Thank you for sharing this...it's awesome!🏆
I think this is wonderful. I am just challenged reading the chart and even watching the tutorial on 8 at a time. This width to cut is very clear, but I am struggling to find the length. I thought this would be fun to stash bust a charity quilt. Thank you to anyone who can help me.
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts - If I am cutting rectangles, there are 2 dimensions. One is the width which I can find in the chart, but I cannot find the length for the rectangles. And the length should be different on a 4 rectangle for a 4 inch block versus a 10 inch block. I just can figure it out.
Genius!!! Thank you so much for all you do to make life simpler for this ole gal. I appreciate you so much!!! Now please, get some down time and relax.
The jig-method is great. I've never seen that before. Could we have more of them and more of the how to make 8 at once blocks? That was amazing! I'm a beginner and piecing often seems to take forever. More of these would be AWESOME!
A beginner usually does not know that seasoned quilters are good at tricks and techniques. Also, strip piecing speeds things up greatly, but you DO need to know the beginning techniques first. Keep on keepin' on!
oh my goodness thank you!! I watched it through first then wrote all diagrams and your every word! I remember what I write so I take notes often like this. thank you for ALL your videos and for ALL the work you put into them, especially the brain power on this..you are the absolute best!! Take care of yourself
In culinary school, every chef instructor told us that it’s all been done (and photographed on Pinterest.) It’s true. Apparently in quilting too. Love you Karen, keep up the great work!!
I regularly watch your videos instead of TV. This morning I was looking at a picture of quilt, trying to figure out how it was constructed. Then it came to me, I've seen this block before. It's the Shaded Four Patch from Karen's video! Thank you for figuring out the multiples method!
I love this! Thank you! Heading to website now to download the reference sheet. I just made gobs of these for Bonnie Hunter’s Indigo Way Mystery quilt. I used my Accuquilt, so they came out pretty accurate, but I sure wish I had remembered you had perfected these techniques. I am definitely adding this to my repertoire!
You are sending me down the rabbit hole again .... I have made this block / quilt many times. I first saw the block used on Fons & Porter Love of Quilting episode 701 ... They used the traditional method but I LOVE your method and can not wait til I can use it.
Thank you Karen. I hadn't seen this block before, so its something new. I have been down as I have less then a month until a. Major back surgery, and I have lost my mojo for sewing. Watching your. Vid's makes me want to sew, so look out tomorrow im going to try to make a couple of bags. Fingers crossed they work ok. Thanks again. You are so down to earth and i find it so refreshing to watch You in action. ❤🇦🇺😁
Thank you for sharing your ingenious “jig” idea and the 8 at a time (wow!) cat in a cradle block formula. I just love your teaching and your down to earth thinking. Inspiring.
Absolutely brilliant; and the icing on the cake, the JIG! I've seen quilts with these blocks but shied away. You've just put the coveted accuracy within reach. THANK YOU!
Amazing, accurate and fast! What's not to love? I think an "Ask Karen" segment is a wonderful idea. Thanks so much for all your time and effort. ☺ Happy Holidays!!!
Holy WOW WOW WOW! This tutorial is mindblowingly good! I particularly like your eight-at-a-time method, and the template you created using a cereal box. You are incredibly talented. Oh, and I love your new hair-do!
I love it, Karen! Thank you for finding a new way for the rest of us, it's so super-helpful because (it seems to stand to reason), that the fewer times one is required to sew, the greater the accuracy/consistency one should see in their blocks. To me, this isn't only a time-saver, it results in a better, more accurate set of blocks. Woot! Woot!
Love this idea for making eight at a time! Angela, on F&P Love of Quilting, shows making four of these blocks out of a square in a square block!!! Amazing!! Quilters are ingenious!! Thanks😄
I have a current quilt construction that calls for a modified shaded 4 patch which uses an HST in the corner v. a solid corner (bummer!). The original pattern called for 2 HST's and a folded corner. Regrettably I could not use your method due to the HST in the corner (which adds remarkable geometric interest to adjacent blocks). When I made the block as recommended, I found there were too many seams. (A reminder to always make test blocks and find other ways to skin the quilt cat). I used the 1.5" F HST (using 8 x method) , and then used 2 flanked triangles (cut with my folded corner ruler from 2" strips, and paired with larger triangle, cut with folded corner ruler from strips). I found that using the folded corner ruler cut each of the triangles perfectly (to include the larger one)--as it takes into account the "dog ears" by removing them. I did not end up with any distortion, and I was able to use chain piecing. I ended up with a perfect block. Would that I could have employed your genius hack. But as you demonstrate, applying problem solving and leveraging best methods can improve productivity, accuracy and enjoyment. Thanks for all that you do.
Thank you Karen. I love this block! I paper-pieced scraps of Christmas fabric into small blocks (2,1/8") for a mini octagon quilt. Thank you for figuring out the 8-at-a-time method! Brilliant!
