  • Filmed on a Braun Super 8 film camera from around 1977 and 1978, this film shows the YCs competing in two raft races on the River Medway at Maidstone, launching from what was then the old market. It also shows the opening of the second bridge (St Peters) over the Medway in Maistone in 1977, and a pram race.

Great to see excitement and fun in our town! LETS MAKE MAIDSTONE GREAT AGAIN... and get that ruddy River Festival thriving! Good times.

Wasn't Maidstone an amazing place to live back then? Nowadays you have to search for any greenery. All massive housing estates and getting worse by the day.
    Lovely video, thanks.

This is great! I was there for that bridge opening. I'm in that crowd somewhere, 4 years old. This is one of my earliest memories.

I took part in one of the YC raft races but could not find myself there anyway sadly.

Great so see. Pre immigration and decline of the town centre.
