+ This is Dan Bell Hi! I'm not sure if someone had commented about the safe behind the altar, but I thought I would. I was raised Catholic and in all the Catholic churches I've been in (except the small ones) they use the safe to store holy water, and other blessed items such as the communion bread and wine. Thanks for the video it's fun to be able to explore with you all! Take care. :-)
Reliquary. Also, any other Catholics cringe when he walked up on the Dais thing and looked into the cup for the communion? I am atheist now, but somethings never go away.
as a (not so devout) Catholic (but still a believer), it makes me cringe also. It's the area that only the ordained priests / deacon could go into, and must be treated with utter respect. Kind of like Moses story with the burning tree......
@@YellowRubberDuckie It's fine if there's no Communion in it. Heck, I would've even opened the tabernacle just to see the inside... with perhaps a reverent head bow of course. Sorry to hear about your atheism. Anyone who goes atheist by skipping over agnosticism must've had something happen to them that made them angry and lose their faith. Sending prayers that you find your way back home!
This one is definitely one of my favorites. Nothing creepy here, just a silent beauty. Looks like it was a lovely school with bright, happy colors on the walls and natural light streaming through the windows.
Just that shot as you open the door and walk in is pretty awe inspiring. You just don't have aesthetics and craftsmanship like that any more. These videos never fail to be interesting and entertaining.
Sean McKelvey my uncle build a two story house without and screws or nails. No electric tools either. Then again he’s a engineer at nasa, pretty crafty guy I guess. But still. There’s people out there don’t lose hope! Ha
The music in the start of this video is perhaps the most beautiful soundtrack I've heard in your videos. It's haunting yet so beautiful. Absolutely perfect choice for the opening montage of this beautiful building.
Well it pretty much is, all of that is due to deterioration, weathering, and no climate control. Now that he's put it on the map I'm sure there have been others inside. Most people don't think to scavenge through religious buildings such as this.
www.katharinesfoundation.org/html/katharine.htm Seems like they are actually kind of trying to rescue the building. And reading up the history of this school it sounds like it was a great place!
Now this place is impressive, so clean, free from graffiti and damage from vandalism! Very amazing that it’s in such beautiful shape..🎉 nice camera work Dan! So glad you decided to do this one
Great place Dan. Strange to see a place like this that has not suffered from vandalism and graffiti, glad you were able to see it in a natural form. Thanks Dan, Will and Brian. Really enjoyed this one.
That is the Saint Frances de Sales Catholic School, an urbex favorite. The school is in Powhatan, Virginia, and was built in the late 1800s for African-American women. They'll probably demolish the building at some point, though there was talk a few years ago about an extensive restoration.
i've seen a shit ton of your videos but i've just now decided that this is my favorite out of all of them. i hovered over the video three minutes in and felt some weird kind of excitement that i still had nearly twenty more minutes of this.
The sad truth is many of these old buildings are so full of asbestos and lead paint that restoring them to function would be financially impossible. For example, almost all the Linoleum you encounter that was made before the 1980s contains asbestos. So do theater curtains, some attic insulation, pipe insulation, heating duct insulation, ceiling tiles and in some cases, even in plaster.
Besides the possible health hazards, and financial points that speak against a renovation, this place would be amazing if it was used. The rooms have big windows, it's bright and already has so many facilities that could still be used after a thourougly renovation. There are so many families that have to live in motels and shelters. I could see this be an amazing home for some of them or like a safe house for mothers with children. The classrooms could be converted to a families home, and there are dormitories and comunal baths already. As well as the classroom kitchens. That would be very nice. Or an assisted living program? Seeing them roam around that's what I thought. Wouldn't it be nice? The place is full of light and also has nice colours. And a big garden as well... Like close to my home they converted a big villa into a therapy center for people with various disabilities and also build them flats so they can now live together and learn from each other. It's a lovely project. They also train people to liveon their own. :) Regarding asbestos... I don't even want to know how many schools and sport facilities etc. still have asbestos in them. Probably all that were build after the 60s. And even though my school building was from 1881 there probably still was some asbestos put in during some renovations etc. (Lol the ceilings had straw insulation behind the ceiling pannels but at least I know for sure that we didn't have lead pipes anymore) And I didn't know linoleum had asbestos too. That's good to know! :O good that all my classrooms had parquet! So that's why the gyms are even more likely to have asbestos!
I rewatched the video and found out that it used to be a boarding school for black girls! www.katharinesfoundation.org/html/katharine.htm Sounds like a pretty good place. And I hope they somehow manage to rescue the buildings.
i love your editing, commentary, filming, etc. it's so professional and engaging. you always make anything from churches to trailer homes look spectacular. xxxx
I really enjoyed this video. It was interesting on several levels. Why would it have entered the disused category? It seems to have been built in two stages, first stage prior to WW II. Second stage Post WW II. The presence of the aluminum casement windows would be post WW II. They were very prevalent in the 50's and 60's. I think the newer part was built about 1960 and the older part was upgraded with them then. the grounds were kempt and the place was tidy and vandal free! There must be an overseer. He/She must have been asleep when you were there. The chairs are collectible and would date from 50's or 60's. Future antiques. I would have tried the combination 6-6-6 on that safe! The heat source was either hot water or steam, I wish you had gotten to the Boiler room.
Reading your post was bittersweet. The preservation of the sites seems important but to be repurposed if Dioceses decided to sell. The structure and architecture could still be appreciated. But I am happy to know the explanation that there has been a retreat of newer generations not supporting a faith.
jolie robles The insight regarding shrinking Faithful is this: The scandals affecting Catholicism have had an affect on Church Membership. Formerly the Priest was regarded with respect and trust. A different anomaly has infected Protestants; the Mega Church, the emphasis on money and power and high living has put congregants off. Then the exposes' of Ministers and Theologians. Many have resorted to Murder. The Simple Truth and Humility of Our Lord Jesus is ridiculed and challenged by the Left. I very much appreciate your post. Than you.
I would love to hear what a former student would say about their experience attending this school... that is if any are alive, but the story to go with the building would be fabulous..
RealBeautiful Beauty - Yeah! Especially since it looked like it could have been a pretty well off school back in the day! I wonder what scandal or incident happened for it to close.
That school looks like it was abandoned in the 80’s or 90’s by looking at the appliances. Stoves were different in the 1950’s. Know some history at least before you leave an ignorant comment about integration. In the past Americans were clean and decent. That’s the reason why that school was so beautiful. Americans were decent back in the day and this school is clearly in the countryside. The trash tends to stay in large urban cities. White people and Black people were clean decent people in the past. Our grandparents and great grandparents grew up listening to beautiful music that had meaning. We listen to junk nowadays. It’s either Metal, Rap, Hip Hop, Pop, R&B or some other trash music genre full of violence, cussing, and innuendo.
Dan, you are the man. I never tire of your artistic style. Thank you for videos so good, I share them often, and I watch them over and over. Namaste my friend!
8:15 The Estate Stove Company was founded in 1884 by the Kahn Brothers, Lazard and Felix. They had a foundry in Hanging Rock, Ohio where they made wood- and coal-fueled stoves for domestic purposes. Omg this is probably my favorite videos for your's Dan. Love all the 50's and 60's stuff especially those chairs at 16:54, id love to take a few of them clean them up and buy a 60's mid century modern dinning table and that would be one cool set
wow this place has been closed for that long and its still in such good condition, usually places left for that long are almost completly gone jay bradley
St. Joseph statue was beautiful. That safe is behind all Tabernacles guys as the blessed sacrament is kept in it. We have an Altar here in Ireland with a bullet hole in it were the Priest tried protecting the Eucharist from a British soldier, so it is kept in a safe when building is empty, that's why the safe would be there. Tnx for respecting it guy's...
I just found and have been watching your channel today. Thank you for not scaring the shit out of me because there were plenty of opportunities to do so. Keep up the awesome work!
15:18 Floor scraper on right ... that and the catch buckets previously tell me this is a maintained building... at least they're minimizing the decline... it might be reused sometime...
Absolutely beautiful building. Really love all your videos. You give the viewer a chance to actually see the venues instead of waving an unfocused camera around like so many others do.
This was so incredibly good! Loved every second. The music in the beginning was so perfect. I watch all of your videos almost exclusively because of you're photographic genius. You pan around slowly, the shots are always great. You always zoom in on the most interesting "stuff". I never feel so dizzy that I'm going to puke or have a seizure. You guys are so funny and considerate of the properties you explore and you speak at just the right times. Love it! Keep going Guys.
Those chairs are amazing and the colors of the tiles and paint are so soothing. I would love a bathtub like that. Basically, I want to live there, but I'd never go near those creepy back stairs. This is my new favorite video. Thank you Dan!
How often do you find buildings untouched? This place is amazing. It looks like your out in the middle of nowhere. The surrounding area and skies are beautiful.
I HAVE A FEELING THAT PEOPLE MUST (AND I THINK SHOULD) HAVE RESPECT FOR A PLACE THAT HELD WORSHIP (RE THE CHURCH PART) AND THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING IT WAS NICE TO SEE - MAYBE IT WILL COME TO SOME USE IN THE FUTURE SINCE THE GROUNDS ARE TENDED TO. I'D NEVER WANT TO DEFACE ANYTHING, LET ALONE A PLACE OF HOLY WORSHIP!
Thank you for the back story ! Without it, you're just going through a random building. The backstory gives a place it's life, dignity, and character back even if only for a moment. Anybody can go in and film a place. The story is what makes it interesting.
This is incredible. I went to a catholic high school in New Orleans and the "old building" as we called it was very similar to this but much smaller. The church is also similar in style to the church in he video but again it is much smaller. It was at first an orphanage in the 19th century then later changed into an all girls school which it still is today. Always got an ominous feeling when I had classes in the old building. Beautiful video as always, Dan.
This is by far the best exploration......I just wish I knew a little more history about the places you explore...like with the malls...it’s amazing to see these places still left fairly in tact and this particular venue could be repurposed for so many other things...it’s beautiful and sad and mesmerizing.....
Why do you have to preface a statement with "I'm not religious"? Are you that afraid of God or your so narsisstic that you think everyone cares about you?
There is a Catholic School in Klamath Falls, Oregon that is no longer used. It has the same shape and brick work. Kind of horse shoe shape. It didn't house over night students, but served the community for many years as a school, 1-12.
What a fascinating and beautiful building. I loved the one room with the two chairs and lamp and the shining restroom! LOL. I loved how you noticed the detail of the towel rack. I also loved the old home ec kitchen room. GREAT VIDEO
The safe is probably where they kepy all of the altar pieces - gold candle sticks and so on... The sound of the wind moaning through the building really gives the video a bit of a frisson, and I jumped at 17:50 too :D
I could swear I heard your heart beating looking at the greenish wall at end of hall @ 13:26 'til it showed ya'll going down stairs, seems like you had some intense moments with this one. Cheers, and Thankyou!
Amazingly beautiful. Sad but peaceful at the same time. The stories that could come out of that place. Please do a history video of this place. Great job.
You have probably heard this numerous times, your work makes me happy the same way Stephen Wilkes photos of Ellis Island do. My name is Anna. Keep it up. It is very meaningful!
What a cool, amazing place. Absolutely fascinating. With the exception of the dormitories, the interior looks eerily similar to the Catholic school I attended (and, actually, every one I've ever seen). I especially loved seeing that Home Ec room at 7:34. Oh, and the scariest things in the video wasn't anything about the building. It was those damn, huge, terrifying Wasps. Thanks for that.
Best place yet, I like that its not too far destroyed love that its just abandoned and not totally torn up or vandalized, amazed those statues and details still there and intact, very awesome and surprising great work Dan!
Always nice to see a place in its natural state of decay without the destruction and scribblings of nutcases and their signature drawings of penises.
You mean like this?
Eight equals equals equals equals equals equals D
For real!!! Why do graffiti people always draw dicks everywhere???

My thought too, probably was used to house blessed sacraments and wine between masses.
Reliquary.

Shortly after filming ended, Dan and his group were converged upon by a group of nuns that beat them half to death with rulers.
😂😂😂
lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
rwdplz1 Sounds like a fetish!
Thats hot
Marble everywhere in that sanctuary. Simply amazing! Refreshing to see a place so untouched by vandals. My favorite Dan Bell video to date.
The music in the start of this video is perhaps the most beautiful soundtrack I've heard in your videos. It's haunting yet so beautiful. Absolutely perfect choice for the opening montage of this beautiful building.
I am not even all that religious, but I would volunteer my time to clean and keep that place in as good of shape as possible.
That's very kind of you to think that way. Even to those who don't follow a faith it should mean something sentimental :'|
In this case you'd have to fix the roof/ceiling first. Watch again, it's all gone.
Well it pretty much is, all of that is due to deterioration, weathering, and no climate control. Now that he's put it on the map I'm sure there have been others inside.

My high schools bathrooms weren't nearly as clean as those.
I know right? so clean
Well, they made the kids do it like clockwork, probably with toothbrushes, just like in Mommy Dearest.
Lot of toothbrush scrubbing by sinful girls.
Definitely my favorite place you've visited so far. Such a beautiful school with fantastic lighting, and it's massive.
This is so cool! You can almost imagine kids running around the halls and leaning by the windows talking. It's like a time capsule!
i've seen a shit ton of your videos but i've just now decided that this is my favorite out of all of them. i hovered over the video three minutes in and felt some weird kind of excitement that i still had nearly twenty more minutes of this.

Excellent video, great find. It's cool to see Brian in your video!

Nothing says I love you more than feeding my sheep.
Huh?

I thought it said, "If you love me, eat my sheep", so that's what I've been doing.

I enjoy all your videos but this was the most beautiful place I've ever seen you explore. Fantastic.

what's the intro song
those colorful chairs were mid century modern in design, which also points to it being used the 50's
It was hard to see but the drawer handles looked like they might be Bakelite
Awesome video Dan!!! This place is sooo cool.
This is by far the closest to my heart, outstanding work sir... Simply Extraordinary.
For the place being vacant so long, it looks amazing! I love your videos Dan, I'm always excited for new uploads!

Correct... Not only are the chalices and such valuable but you have satanists attempt to steal consecrated wafers...
I just found and have been watching your channel today. Thank you for not scaring the shit out of me because there were plenty of opportunities to do so. Keep up the awesome work!
Damn, Dan you produce the most quality content every single time you upload.

Alot safer too 😂
Yes, me too, hum and Adam the Woo .. Shall you?

That was awesome Dan, as usual excellent camera work.

Also Dan, that safe is for wine, methinks. Most Churches keep the wine in a safe in the vestry.
Alphonsus Billingsley-Balderdash III it's a reliquary. Also, the thing he stood on upon the alter was where they keep the wine and host.
Got to lock 6 the booze
Beautiful film, thanks Dan!
I look forward to these every Friday night!

This is the most beautiful location you've filmed yet! What an amazing building!
I'm not religious, but wow...beautiful place. Nice to see unbroken stained glass as well.
Why do you have to preface a statement with "I'm not religious"? Are you that afraid of God or your so narsisstic that you think everyone cares about you?
Another fantastic film by Dan Bell. Absolutely love your work. Would love to see you come to the Boston area
Amazing that the altars and statues are still intact
This is absolutely stunning to look at. When Dan first entered I couldn’t believe it was in such great condition! Absolutely beautiful.
GREAT VIDEO
The subs on his channel keep rising every time I come back to watch videos! I am so happy!!!!
Crazy to think so many people are homeless and there are so many abandoned buildings
Absolutely mind blowing Dan!!
Love the video Dan. Your channels are number one to me.
This place would work perfectly for a Silent Hill film.
Nice find. Kind of eerie. Thanks
The safe is probably where they kepy all of the altar pieces - gold candle sticks and so on... The sound of the wind moaning through the building really gives the video a bit of a frisson, and I jumped at 17:50 too :D
@18:58 "Do you love me? ...feed my sheep" Must I do everything around here?!
5:35 if I did that to a wasp it would be after me like a fucking cat and a mouse
+EvanPlayzGames bzzzzzzz!!!!!!!
Fantastic as always Dan x
That Estate stove came from my town. They have been out of business since the late 50's. My dad worked there after the war.
whats the name of this place?
I could swear I heard your heart beating looking at the greenish wall at end of hall @ 13:26 'til it showed ya'll going down stairs, seems like you had some intense moments with this one.
Cheers, and Thankyou!
Make sure you check out my second channel FILM IT for more amazing videos! ruclips.net/user/danbellfilmit
love your videos and I agree with everyone else . .Friday night with Dan Bell and pizza makes for an amazing evening keep those great videos comin!!
+This is Dan Bell. I guess that's when the Catholic Church had money to give great education.
+Justin Willis me too
+This is Dan Bell. I honestly think this is where they filmed The Magdoline Sisters.
This was one Awesome place I would have spent all day there! Very interesting how nothing was torn apart Beautiful😊
Awesome video! I love how the sound of the wind gave it that bit of creep factor. It made me jump a couple times too!
I don't know why this made me sad?
Ya' know, abandoned properties don't HAVE to be broken into, graffitied, pissed and shit in, and littered with needles. They can just be left alone.
Someone maintains the lawn.
Great job once again, Dan
When a town or city has a vacant building like this and a homeless problem it seems like a no-brainer to me?
Amazingly beautiful. Sad but peaceful at the same time. The stories that could come out of that place. Please do a history video of this place. Great job.
Video was awesome man!! That place was really cool!!!!
