I was 18 when this song was at the top the charts in 1978. I am now 60 years old and the more I think about it the more I realize that my generation lived through a very special time in terms of music. Decades later, the songs we were listening to as teenagers and kids in their 20s are still being covered. Dreams from the album Rumors is hauntingly Beautiful. I'm not at all surprised that it got stuck in your head, because 42 years ago it was stuck in all of our heads! Watch out Laura, Time flies faster than you think!
Thank you everyone for your replies to my post here. The funny thing about it is that today anyone can go online and learn music theory, tabulature, buy books and courses, and there's a whole lot of gizmos and beautiful instruments with features we did not have back in the day. Also, people really did have something to say and they made a point to say it. Yet with all of these advantages there are only a few across the world who are really doing something significant. The other thing I must mention is that albums invariably came with outstanding artwork, gatefolds, etc- Which gave a glimpse into the musical artists minds and how they saw life and the times we were living in. When a new album hit the shelf, we were all down at the record store looking for it. Looking for that new ride that would take us on an extraordinary journey and enrich our lives.
I am grateful for artists like Laura who have done both covers and original work. If I could sum her up in one word it would be: precision!
True... music is a reflection of the minds that inhabited that generation. And that is a sad statement about the present generation - with the exception of this lady.

a good song is a good song. a great song is a great song. I was listening to bruce springsteen's latest stuff (apple plus channel). he's got the e-street band back together. it was amazing hearing the difference between the new songs and the old songs. such a different energy. his new stuff was lacking some of the real excitement. not bad, but not as thrilling as some of the older stuff. thinking of the 70s and wondering what bruce and VH had in common brought me to realize that these guys came up in highly competitive music scenes. both the jersey shore and the LA area had loads of great bands, but these guys wanted to be the best and get the best gigs and ultimately make it big. it's not a huge mystery why their music was so exciting. that was what it took. they wanted to really be noticed and remembered for putting on a great show, and that's what they did. they were memorable for sure and that's how they ended up getting so huge.
I'm an old man now : this song and the way you covered works like a time machine dropping my generation back to youth time when parties, love and sadness where back gounded with this piece of poetry... thanks for this journey Cheers

This version is incredible. Your voice is so satisfying and gets into the spirit of this song. The guitar playing is wonderful. I did not expect the solo either, I like how you took the song to the desert. Your version captures the hurt of being lonely in a dry windy place.

@Daniel Malloy It's almost basically everything going progressively better as you go back in time from the 90s, the decade right before music pretty much died.

Maybe you should try and open your mind a bit and explore rather than listen to some shitty radio stations playing the most popular 10 songs or classic rock stations rehashing the same old shit from the "glory days".

Two time Hall of Famer Stevie has big shoes to fill. Rumors is one of the greatest albums ever released. It is impossible for me to comment without bias so I will gracefully say very little.

For me it's what makes the original so great- it's delicacy and Stevie sounding as if she is sort of whispering, giving up on Lindsey. Obviously, to each their own ;)

That was superb as always. Super in sync editing. I sometimes thought that vocals weak in earlier vids, but this was so natural and unforced. How does a French girl get a hint of Stevie twang is amazing. Just keep us old guys happy Laura
