  • ABBA Chiquitita (remastered) official English and Spanish lyrics with English translation are a message of comfort and encouragement for a heartbroken friend, speaking of the hope for better days to come.
[Verse 1] Little girl, tell me why / Chiquitita, dime por qué
Your pain today chains you / Tu dolor hoy te encadena
In your eyes there is a shadow of great sorrow / En tus ojos hay una sombra de gran pena
I wouldn't want to see you like this / No quisiera verte así
Even if you want to hide it / Aunque quieras disimularlo
if you are so sad / Si es que tan triste estás
What do you want to shut him up for? / ¿Para qué quieres callarlo?
Little girl, tell me / Chiquitita, dímelo tú
On my shoulder here crying / En mi hombro aquí llorando
Count me in, now / Cuenta conmigo, ya
So keep talking / Para así seguir hablando
So sure I met you / Tan segura te conocí
And now your broken wing / Y ahora tu ala quebrada
Let me take her, I want to see her cured / Déjamela llevar, yo la quiero ver curada
[Chorus] Chiquitita, you know very well / Chiquitita, sabes muy bien
That sorrows come and go, you must appear / Que las penas vienen y van, debes aparecer
Again, you will dance and you will be happy / Otra vez, vas a bailar y serás feliz
Like flowers that bloom / Como flores que florecen
Chiquitita, there is no need to cry / Chiquitita, no hay que llorar
The stars shine for you, up there / Las estrellas brillan por ti, allá en lo alto
I want to see you smile to share / Quiero verte sonreír para compartir
Your joy, little one / Tu alegría, chiquitita
Once again, I want to share your joy, little one / Otra vez, quiero compartir tu alegría, chiquitita
[Verse 3] Little girl, tell me why / Chiquitita, dime por qué
Your pain today chains you / Tu dolor hoy te encadena
In your eyes there is a shadow of great sorrow / En tus ojos hay una sombra de gran pena
I wouldn't want to see you like this / No quisiera verte así
Even if you want to hide it / Aunque quieras disimularlo
if you are so sad / Si es que tan triste estás
What do you want to shut him up for? / ¿Para qué quieres callarlo?
[Chorus] Chiquitita, you know very well / Chiquitita, sabes muy bien
That sorrows come and go, you must appear / Que las penas vienen y van, debes aparecer
Again, you will dance and you will be happy / Otra vez, vas a bailar y serás feliz
Like flowers that bloom / Como flores que florecen
[Chorus part 2] Little girl, there is no need to cry / Chiquita, no hay que llorar
The stars shine for you, up there / Las estrellas brillan por ti, allá en lo alto
I want to see you smile to share your joy, little one / Quiero verte sonreír para compartir tu alegría, chiquitita
Once again I want to share your joy, little girl / Otra vez quiero compartir tu alegría, chiquitita
Once again I want to share your joy, little girl / Otra vez quiero compartir tu alegría, chiquitita

THE STORY BEHIND THE ABBA SONG: Chiquitita (Spanish version) from Norselandsrock.com. Chiquitita did not only bring ABBA back to the top of the charts. The song made them relevant again and showed all of the world that they had more songwriting magic in their arsenal. This was also something the band had to prove to themselves, and with their confidence duly boosted, the songs started flowing again.
In the end, the band ended up with many great songs to make Voulez-Vous into the album they needed it to be. It was released in April 1979, and the year would prove a much better one for all of them than the previous one.
The song Chiquitita would also help ABBA achieve a breakthrough in South America where they hadn’t seen much success yet. The song was perfect for such an endeavor with its Spanish-flavoured arrangement and title. To top it off the song was recorded with Spanish lyrics, and sung phonetically, and this version was released as a single in Argentina in April 1979. It went straight to number one in the charts.
Within a few months, the Spanish Chiquitita had sold half a million copies in Argentina. The English version had done significantly less business in that country, stalling at 25,000 sold copies. Clearly, language mattered, and the Spanish version of the song would go on to make the rounds in neighboring countries to become the biggest hit from any artist in South America in 25 years.
    ABBA Chiquitita Official English Lyrics:
    [Chorus]
    Chiquitita, you and I know
How the heartaches come and they go
    And the scars they're leaving
    You'll be dancing once again
    And the pain will end
You will have no time for grieving
    Chiquitita, you and I cry
But the sun is still in the sky
    And shining above you
Let me hear you sing once more
    Like you did before
    Sing a new song, Chiquitita
Try once more, like you did before
    Sing a new song, Chiquitita
