How the overlay works: red color channel is taken from unnerfed version, green and blue - from nerfed version. So, if the color of a pixel in both versions are same, then after overlaying its color is NOT distorted. If there is a difference, then the color is distorted depending on which color channels prevail.

The reason behind that was because they had different animations, he can't really do anything about it much.
I mean he caaaaan technically delete monsters and group spikes from for example unnerfed ver and recolor it in the nerfed, but that's kinda too much work for something that small.
