    I don't even want to imagine wiping out at 200kph in a 15 ton, no arms or armor mech.

    Apollo: Speed freak ground scout. Foxfire: Area denial literally scorched earth tool. Stiletto: Glass cannon. Ambassador: Unarmed officer's transport for parley. Slowpoke: uuhhhh...what's it's design purpose again?

    • @GrimDarkNarrator
      @GrimDarkNarrator  3 года назад +15

      To make Urbanmech pilots feel good about themselves.

      @@GrimDarkNarrator If it weren't for the crushing price of half an Urbie (!), the Slowpoke honestly sounds like it could be an interesting civilian design.
      Basically... rich idiots first mech. Letting idiots feel like mechwarriors on the weekends by running, jumping and pew-pew-ing at paper targets a little, while not being an actual threat to anything but their own bank balance.
      Honestly think that could be pretty cool idea for world-building.

    Ah, so they do exist. When I made my comment in one of the protomech videos. I didn't know they actually existed.
    I like the last four. Junior for being functional. Guardian, if only for it's design. Yeah it's slow. But it's supposed to patrol city blocks and industrial areas. So it's main threat is usually people with guns and maybe explosives. Maybe even an industrial mech. I would make three variants. One with a flamer and machine gun. One with a srm launcher. And a variant that uses energy weapons.
    The last two are fine as is. One a recon and another a trainer. The best thing about ultralight mechs is that a regular pilot can operate them. Rather than needing a specialized pilot made through genetic engineering.

  • @andrewphillips8341

    I used to get those magazines. They were not the best quality (print wise) but they had some pretty good idea and stories.

    Late to the party; Nice video on the Ultra lights, however there more. As you said, the Prey Seeker, Roadrunner, and fluffwise only the Guardian are only ones that were officially canon. Vehicle Annex, Updated edition, and newer TRO: Irregulars have some additional ones. Their considered civilian mechs converted for warfare or militia/security work. The Star League estiablished rules for use of guardmechs/policemechs/militia mechs restricting their sizes, including of ultralight size.

    For those rare occasions a Locust would be overkill.
    Grim, I request a video on Dunkelzahn, the 7th president of the United Canadain American States. He was only president for like ten hours, but he was a fuckin dragon. Shadowrun lore is an untapped market at the moment.

    I always thought that the Ultralights would be great scouts and anti-infantry/ light vehicle mechs to use 8n combat. I wish they had made miniatures of these guys.

      Unfortunately, they probably got overlooked.

      @@GrimDarkNarrator I know their is an Ironwind Metals miniature of the Emerald Harrier/ Road Runner now. Also I think that someone in Europe had a batch of the Mechforce UK ultralight mechs made for themselves and a group of friends. But the majority were probable never made because I don't think alot of casual players would know how to use them. Just my thoughts, I have no hard facts about that last part.

    • @Victor-056

      I can also see Ultralights being used in civilian Militas, where an Urbie would be overkill, or they need a Good Scout that isn't taller than the Trees.

    These mechs are new to me, neat stuff but no info on the cat-like mech at the start? I like that one the most, reminds me of Ravage from Transformers! I also like the Prey Hunter, these would make for neat models in a 28mm skirmish level BT game....if one actually existed!
    Keep up the fine work, GDN!

    well we've dabbled in tankettes in real life to trying t make a micro mech makes some sort of sense right?

      True

    • @ineednochannelyoutube5384
      @ineednochannelyoutube5384 3 года назад +1

      Tankettes were made with two porpouses. To be cheap in the 30s for nations with little industry but a need for an armoured force, and to be airliftible.
      With battletech's technological base, a 20 tonned should still fit on a transport aircraft perfectly fine, and jumpjets make anything airdroppable.

  • @impressiveprogressive7343

    Personally the only uses for these are as police units and maybe anti infantry. To me these are mechs looking for niche, instead of designing purpose built mechs, these were built hoping for a purpose to be revealed. As far as I am concerned these "mechs" should be used as support units for larger mech. They should be delivering ammo and supplies to a front line combat units and should only be pressed into service as a combat unit as a last resort.
    You'd be better off with an industrial mech like a boxman with a pair of medium lasers.
    Put a cargo pod on the ambassador and you got a quick resupply mech.
    The Guardian is a waste of machine guns.

      I think they would prove very useful in training
      Useful for teaching basic piloting and gunnery well not tying up a real battlemech that could be better used on the front

      In 3025 anything under 20 times was not considered combat viable
      Post 3050 it can be argued anything under 25 tons isn't combat viable
