  • Roger's lovely vintage aeroplane. I flapped around in it last time I was here and hope to do it again, weather permitting.

Great video, awesome Aeronca. Great video memory for me as my Dad owned an Aeronca Chief, N9829, from 1949 to 1953 flying off his farm in central Pennsylvania. Ownership for Dad's Chief moved from owner to owner across the United States. In 1986 it was de-registered in the US and moved to Canada. N9829E final landing came in the late 1990s following a crash near Anahim Lake, British Columbia.

Finding this video, and then the comments, what a treat. Love old planes. Love the shed. Love the stories here too. Cheers :)

At first I thought you had Guy Jones' Aeronca. I lived in Shelbyville in the early 70s and moved to Dayton, Tennessee in 1972. About the first six months I was there, a pilot came in to the hospital where I worked with a broken hip, who was 72, I believe. We got to talking and it turned out he ran the local airport. He was Guy M. Jones and had several Aeroncas. One of which was painted light blue like yours. After he healed enough to hobble out to the plane, he was flying again. He billed himself as The Last of the Barnstormers. Tennessee had licensed him as a barnstormer at the end of the era when it was no longer allowed freely. He would take me up for $2 and I went up with him nearly ever weekend. He told me some stories of his career that were fascinating. He offered to teach me for $5 an hour, but I only made $2.35 and could not afford it. Wish I had been less responsible with my bills and did it though.

I'm an aussie and I was visting my mate Roger Anderson who owns the plane. Coincidentally, Roger also ran an airport, O'Hare International in Chicago. He also happens to be one of the nicest blokes I ever met. Thanks for the comment.
