This is a Quincy Jones song? Well I'll be. And the funny thing about this song is the guy in the diner in "In the Heat of the Night" played a racist but he was playing a song by a black man.
I’m not a country music fan, and I love this song. Incidentally, I was born in Philly and still live in the area, just like a few of the other commenters. Interesting…
If this were a 45 on a jukebox, then the b side should be "Come on and Turkey trot"... Remember that song? It was playing on the jukebox in "Easy Rider." When Captain America, Billy and George showed up at the diner, and as they left they were singing "The man is at the window, the man is at the window."
@suzettebennett2564 Yes, 1965. Maybe he was working on the music for this film long before it's premiere? Totally off the subject, but to qualify my comment; Duke Ellington was working on the music for "Paris Blues" (1960) for several years before a major studio bought the film for production. I read that Ellington was upset that he had worked so hard on the film's OST because he loved the original idea which had Newman and Carroll's characters as the main love story, with Poitier and Woodard's relationship as a sort of background. The studio's producers chickened out and changed the screenplay.
If you hear him hoot, scoot. If you pass his tree, flee. If you catch his eye, fly. Don't wait to say goodbye. He's got a yen for a purdy little hen. Foul owl on the prowl. He's hungry for a chick, so get home quick
Very close and creepy sound like, hey there little miss red ridding hood, by Sam Sham and the pharaohs. I have to say, I like this song better between the two.
..Hey little Lark stay out of the dark, Foul owl on the prowl!..Cute little Jay, get out of his way.. You just might be the quail he'll tail.. You might be the swallow he'll follow.. He's got it in, for a pretty little hen... He's hungry for a chick, so get home quick..
always loved this song in The Heat of The Night. A great movie!
Brilliant film, brilliant soundtrack. Thanks Quincy.

How about a piece of pie? 🥧
@Ronald Garcia Warren Oates to Sidney Poitier in the diner "Hey Tibbs you want something?" Diner guy"I ain't serving him".
A piece of pie without a fly please.
He would've served "Virgil" that heirloomed chunk of marble cake, the same one the flies were storing artifacts in for the past week.
A Halloween favorite for many years.
And Nina Simone's "Pirate Jenny"
ty!
I love it, Thanks!
Thanks Hank Williams wanabe
