I'm (relatively) new to your channel and just wanted to say thank you! Just started this video, and had to let you know about this - One of my earliest memories of Bernard Cribbins is when he advertised model trains when I was a kid. He was exactly the same, even back then. (No spoilers, I promise!) ruclips.net/video/JQVckWHhyyk/видео.html

I think it’s incredible how Doctor who (not the program, the community) got you through tough times. I’m so glad that you have all these people. You are by far my fave RUclipsr reactor now because of how much time and effort you put into your videos. Thank you for doing DW December and I can’t wait for Xmas eve !!!!

You put SO much work into this! You're amazing. Rewatching them (even the ones you didn't like), taking notes, and actually putting them all in order from liked least to liked most. That takes so much time! I don't have the patience to rank every single one. Nice job! Here's (roughly) my top 10:
    1) New Earth
    2) 42
    3) Gridlock
    4) Last of the Time Lords
    5) Runaway Bride
    6) Doctor's Daughter
    7) Fires of Pompeii
    8) Bad Wolf
    9) Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead
    10) Impossible Planet/Satan Pit
I really appreciate all the work you do.

This final list was great!! It said a lot about how your approach to this show reflects our enthusiasm for you to discover it. People with widely varying opinions are sharing the same experience and supporting you on your journey! You've created the space for that to happen and should feel really proud of it! Thank you!!
You're also never afraid to say what you think! That's why the love you have for River was more than I dared hope for!! It's fantastic to see these episodes so high on the list, they really do get more and more poignant and heartbreaking with time. Also loved seeing a Martha two-parter in there too!! Thank you for sharing all of this with us. Your hard work was well worth it! Thank you!!

The Library is my favorite from the RTD era because it is such a rare thing to be able to watch an episode the first time from one character's perspective (in this case, the Doctor's) and then watch the episode again later on and see it from another character's perspective (in this case, River's - after we know her story). It's brilliant, and it makes the episodes re-watchable into infinity, at least for me. lol Did you enjoy it as much or more on the rewatch now that you know River's story?

    • @lawrencegough

Mitzi that is definitely one of its joys, every new River episode gives you something more to think about when you rewatch Silence... I find it mind boggling writing.

To be fair, Mickey wasn't just called an idiot in Season 1. He was written that way, too. Used for the running into walls, gags, and asking the dumb questions. But I think they managed to address that in School Reunion. _Not the Tin Dog?_ and again developing him in fighting the Cybermen.

I loved the countdown videos! And really all the videos so far. I can't imagine how much work you must have put into these videos, and they've turned out awesome.
Picking top episodes would be tough but I think my top five would be: 1) the Library 2 parter, 2) Turn Left, 3) Blink, 4) Family of Blood 2 parter, and 5) Midnight. I can definitely see how Family of Blood would be the first one to kind of show you how amazing the stories on Doctor Who can be, not that there weren't good stories before that, but it's particularly good! The one that did that for me was Father's Day- I was so sad for Rose and I loved seeing the moral dilemma of it, plus I tend to love stories with time travel paradoxes anyway.
I would say that when you finish the Matt Smith episodes, it would be fun to rank those but that would probably be much more challenging given he's your favorite doctor!

  • @curtinparloe

    Great video! Again!
I'm completely fine with your list, by the way. When I heard Catherine Tate was going to be the companion I was horrified - she was best known for grotesque characters in her comedy sketch show, and runaway bride was a bit too over the top for me - but when she arrived and showed off her real acting chops she became a firm favourite. Her fate was pretty emotional!
I can't believe we're only ten from the end now... Oh gosh! it's Christmas in a couple of days! I've been anticipating each new video so much I'd forgotten! :D
Thank you for doing this, it's made my December! x

I absolutely loved this series on RTD episodes. Thank you SO MUCH for all the work you put into this! I don't even know how I'd rank my top 10, though Silence in the Library would definitely be near the top. I also was split about End of Time; the Meth-addled Master was a bit TOO much, but bringing back Gallifrey/Time Lords and 10's ending scenes were worth it!

    My top 10:
First off, I LOVE the RTD era. I grew up with it and anything to do with it gives me a nostalgia overload. Ever since he left, when I was 8, the show has started going downhill for me. Since the end of Series 9 I haven't watched Doctor Who, but I really want to get back into it with the new showrunner and Doctor.
Honourable Mentions: Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, School Reunion, Smith & Jones, Partners in Crime, Human Nature/Family of Blood
Oh, and I had to do 11 because I needed to fit all of these in here...
    11. Utopia
    10. The Planet of the Ood
    9. Dalek
    8. Gridlock
    7. Father's Day
    6. The End of Time Pt. 2
    5. The Waters of Mars
    4. The Girl in the Fireplace
    3. Turn Left
    2. Midnight
    1. The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit

Oh, this is hard. I love so much of RTD's era that there's so many to pick from to be the top 10. (Lots and lots of babbling incoming...)
    1. The End of Time - Any two-parter that can leave me crying for days (and I do mean days, well, not *constantly*, just whenever my mind wandered back to the episode) has to be on the top. David Tennant is such a beautiful actor, as is Bernard Cribbins, and Wilf's part in the whole thing made it that much more special. David is especially good at acting that requires no dialogue, just a look. That moment when the Doctor sees his mother (that's who RTD says he intended it to be anyway), and his expression drops from steely resolve to the look of a lost little boy looking to his mother for guidance was especially moving, as was the way the joy of being still alive slowly drains from his face as he hears Wilf knocking on the glass. I know a lot of fans hated Ten's farewell tour, but I'm glad you liked it, as it was something I think those of us who were having a hard time with the idea of letting go of this era needed. A final goodbye to all those characters we loved for five years, and a little reminder that they'll all be okay. I loved the attention to detail with Ten's meeting with Rose, having him standing next to very same brick wall where his TARDIS first landed back in The Christmas Invasion. Just an altogether beautiful story in the end, about a man who spent too much time hiding away from others, not wanting to let anyone in, and realizing too late that he had more to give in that particular life. To some, like Nine, changing and stepping into the unknown is a relief, but to others, like Ten, that loss of who you are at the moment and not knowing who you'll be is terrifying. RIP Ten. I still miss you lots.
    2. The Waters of Mars - Thinking of my list, I have this feeling that I just love episodes that delve into the Doctor's character. Who he is. What he can become if driven to the breaking point. Poor Ten is just so done with everything in this one. He knows he has to leave this fixed point in history alone, but he just *can't* handle standing by and watching as people die. That scene where he's walking away and listening to those lovely people die one by one is heartbreaking, as is the scene where Ten talks about Pompeii. "Everything I do...just makes it happen." It's also totally terrifying to see what the Doctor can become if he snaps under the pressure.
    3. Human Nature/Family of Blood - What did I tell ya? I love stories where we peek into the Doctor's character. Plus, I love stories where a normal man has the courage to make the ultimate sacrifice. "He was braver that you in the end, that ordinary man. You chose to change. He chose to die." Also, there's another scene where we see just how terrifying the Doctor can be when pushed over the line. "We wanted to live forever, so the Doctor made sure that we did." Hoooooly shit.
    4. Turn Left - Just a really amazing episode. I love that the show doesn't shy away from it's darker moments amid all the camp, and this one really gives a really bleak view of what the world would be like if the Doctor wasn't there to protect it. I also was rather moved by the idea that, had Donna not been there to snap him out of it, Ten might have let his despair take over and allowed himself to die in the confrontation with the Racnoss. And of course I loved the return of Rose. I especially loved the fact that even without the Doctor, she's grown into her own and working to save both their universes. Everyone's acting in this was flawless, especially Catherine Tate.
    5. Father's Day - Character driven episodes are my jam, I tell ya. It is interesting to see why someone like Rose was held onto and cherished, while a character like Adam was quickly dumped. When Rose made a huge mistake (and it was huge) and saw the consequence of her actions, she was remorseful, but when Adam fucked up, he tried to lay the blame at the Doctor's feet instead of owning up. Plus, Rose was saving a life in her screw up. Adam just wanted to take advantage of future knowledge for his own gain. Either way, the true hero of Father's Day was Rose's dad, Pete. In just one episode, the audience was made to love the man and grieve for him when he sacrificed his life to make everything right. The emotion in this episode is just off the scale. No matter how many times I watch it, I always burst into tears when Pete asks, "Who am I, love?" and Rose replies, "My daddy." JFC, I'm even getting misty just thinking about it.
    6. Army of Ghosts/Doomsday - Daleks and Cybermen having a dick-waving contest, minus the dicks. Loved it. And all the while, you're watching it with the increasing dread that Rose's time is almost up, thanks to the pre-credits section where Rose declares that it's the day she died. Most of what I love about this two-parter is in Doomsday, but it's so packed with what I love that it gets a nice spot on my top ten. The danger just keeps ramping up and up and up to to the point where it all falls apart and the Doctor sends everyone off to take care of it on his own. Only Rose has had this ploy played on her before and she's not having any of it. Love that girl. The Doctor's scream when Rose loses her hold of the lever is just chilling, and I loved how quiet it became (minus the music) once the breach was closed. It just felt like a representation of what was going on inside the Doctor. And from then on, the episode is a beautiful sendoff of a tragic romance. When the projection loses power and cuts off before he could say what he meant to say, and it cuts to the Doctor with tears running down his cheeks, your heart breaks for both of them. Happiness never lasts for the Doctor, the poor guy. (Never really been fond of the mood whiplash at the end with Donna's appearance, though. Give me my space to mourn, damn it. Leave her sudden appearance for the next episode.)
    7. The Stolen Earth/Journey's End - When you love an era of Doctor Who, how can you not love seeing beloved characters you thought you'd never see again? How great is it to see the Doctor's big ol' family teaming up to save the universe? There are just so many moments that I love, from the interactions between companions, to Harriet Jones' heroic death and that namedrop of Mr. Copper who really did do the Doctor proud as he promised. I loved how supportive Donna was of Ten and Rose. Other companions might be jealous, but Donna was brilliant and just instinctively knew without the Doctor explicitly spelling it out how much Rose meant to him. Her smile when they were running towards each other was lovely, and Ten's million-watt smile on seeing Rose was a beautiful sight to behold. Damn that Dalek for ruining the moment. I'm glad Jack blew him to pieces. And at the end, the dichotomy between the scene just a moment earlier where the TARDIS was full of the people Ten loved and the end where the TARDIS was empty save a soaking wet, depressed Doctor was rather heartbreaking, on top of the knowledge that Donna lost everything she'd gained from her time with the Doctor. It hurt.
    8. Midnight - One of the few episodes where the Doctor truly and completely loses, and by god it was terrifying. I think the best part of it is that it works on the theory that a monster is most terrifying when you can't see it. It's like what film experts say about the movie "Jaws": the movie was scarier for not seeing the shark very much. With Midnight, RTD takes it even further. Not only can you not see the "monster", but you have no idea what it's doing or why. You have theories, but nothing is spelled out. You end up knowing what it's doing by the end, sort of, but only once it's almost too late, and you *never* know why or even what it was. Also, the episode was all the more chilling because it was a monster that could take away Ten's best and most effective weapon: his words. And to top it all off, the episode showed us just how monstrous normal human beings can be when they're terrified and trapped, but then RTD turns around and gives us a glimpse of the brilliance of humans who decide to step up and do the right thing when he had the stewardess save the Doctor's life when she realized what was happening.
    9. Girl in the Fireplace - So, I'm a history buff and a sappy romantic. Naturally I'd love this one. As much as I love the relationship between Ten and Rose, the way that he accidentally falls head over heels over Reinette is just so damn sweet. (Of course, the fact that David and Sophia Myles started dated during filming kind of helped it seem all the more real. ;) ) I love how they portrayed the real, historical Reinette's brilliance into the episode. She was a formidable woman, that one. Plus I thought it was rather moving how Rose treated Reinette with understanding when it came to falling for the Doctor, even though her own heart was breaking. And that ending, man. Another example of David Tennant conveying everything you need to know with just a facial expression.
    10. The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit - I don't always like episodes with ensemble casts, mainly because they tend to be written as a bunch of idiots with only one or two smart ones in the bunch. (One thing I hated about "42" even though I generally like the episode.) This two-parter, however, had a bunch of really great characters who had something to contribute. Even poor Scooti, who gave just enough for us to feel sad when she died. The exploration of the idea of belief was really fascinating, too, and not preachy in the least, nor was it totally dismissive of people with a belief. The Beast questioning the Doctor's proclamation that there was nothing *before* time was clever. "Is that your religion?" Also, being someone who was totally into Ten and Rose, I like what Ten declared as his belief. "I believe in her!" :D

If you're a reader the Family of Blood 2 parter was based on a Doctor Who novel (number 7) written by Paul Cornell who adapted his own book for the show.

I actually read the book some time before seeing the television adaption and spent quite a while thinking, "This all seems strangely familiar" before making the connection. The novel is a bit different in plot but the thing that threw me off was the different characterisation between the Seventh and Tenth Doctors. As I read the novel I had built up quite a different mental image than the episode presented.

If you want to see Bernard Cribbins (Wilfred) as a companion, you should check out the 1966 movie "Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D." This is the second movie starring Peter Cushing as an alternate version of the First Doctor. The first movie was 1965's "Dr Who & The Daleks" which is based on the serial The Daleks which you watched as part of this xmas.
While these movies are not part of the canon of Doctor Who, they are an interesting period piece to show what might have been given a much larger budget.

I think I'd have the Library and Human Nature two parters as my top two episodes from RTD era myself - which is best would probably change on a daily basis. Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead is a tour-de-force both by Moffat as by the cast. And Catherine Tate is a revelation in it - her experiences in the virtual reality are horrible and heart-breaking enough to have made up an episode in it's own right - to be just a subplot of this two parter is amazing. And Alex Kingston, obviously does a collosally memorable performance - I can't imagine what DW would have been like if that performance hadn't been so strong they weren't able to bring her back.
As for Human Nature - I've loved Paul Cornell's writings since he published Love and War back in, good lord, 1992 - and Human Nature was probably his best. He did a magnificent job in reworking this story from one featuring the dark and scheming seventh Doctor into one for the Eleventh, and while this story doesn't quite fit in with the characterisation of 11 seen otherwise, it's so expertly performed by Tennant (with a great performance by Jessica Hynes) that I don't in the slightest bit mind. Like you, (but for different reasons) the ending scenes strike a particular note which I find incredibly moving. And Timothy's speech ('He's like fire and ice and rage, He's like the night and the storm and the heart of the sun. .... And he's wonderful') and, especially Joan's brutal slap down of him ('.. on a whim.') always sends shivers down my spine like no other scene in this era of DW.

One of the reasons that the master probably didn't work for you is that it wasn't a very good version of The Master. Derek Jacobis few minutes as the Master outstripped the poor "Jokerized" writing of RTD. The actor was fine, but The Master motives and writing was off. To put the masters evil down as interference of Rassilon was lame. Robert Degaldo and Anthony Anissey had more of an upperclass, charming yet deadly. More of a Moriarty and Holmes style of feel.

Here are my top 10. You can probably tell that I like the future-based episodes a lot more than the historical ones.
    1. Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead
[River song. This one is emotional to begin with, but gets so much more so after watching series 5+. Nothing I could say about this episode would explain how much I adore it.]
    2. The Waters of Mars
[This is, in my opinion, the most heartbreaking story in DW. So personal, and so beautifully tragic. Adelaide Brooke is such a well-written and well-played character. The ending still gets me emotional every time.]
    3. The Stolen Earth / Journey's End
[Just truly epic. A large cast of returning characters, handled excellently with a story that lets them all shine. Donna's story got a great resolution, which managed to be both wonderful and tragic at the same time.]
    4. Gridlock
[I love the moral of this one. Sometimes things seem like they'll be dark forever, but eventually you'll find your way. The reveal of why the motorway was created was handled very very well.]
    5. Midnight
[I love how the story is so contained, told entirely through the interactions of the characters. It has a very human feel to it. I'm fortunate to have watched it fresh, without the expectations that you were given.]
    6. The Doctor's Daughter
[I think Jenny is great, and this episode highlights the Doctor's flaws in a really clever way. Also, this is where Martha shines the most as a character in my opinion.]
    7. Army of Ghosts / Doomsday
[I'd have probably put this higher but it really doesn't improve much when rewatched. Especially as Rose's exit means essentially nothing now that I know she comes back anyway. I still love the interaction between Daleks and Cybermen, and characters like Mickey, Jackie, and Yvonne really shine in these episodes.]
    8. Planet of the Dead
[I'm not entirely sure what I love so much about this episode. While the 'villains' were a little underwhelming, the side characters were great and I loved how Christina shows the Doctor that a person who does bad things is not necessarily a bad person.]
    9. Blink
[Perhaps I didn't love this one as much as others, but you're absolutely right: It does a great job of telling a story where the Doctor isn't the focus. It's also an episode where time gets played around with, and I like that a lot.]
    10. Turn Left
[Donna carries this story so so well, which is in part due to her family being so important to her character. This episode simply wouldn't have worked with Rose or Martha as the protagonist. ]

The Journey's End, two-parter showcases the breadth of the Who Universe. I get chills, just watching Liz Sladen, hear the Daleks' chanting 'Exterminate', as the fleet is identified. A nice fan moment, as she was there for the Genesis of the Daleks.

Loved hearing your thoughts on the RTD-era episodes and seeing how you rank them. Ten is "my Doctor" like Eleven is yours, so I probably look on the RTD-era with a little bit more of a rose-colored glasses perspective (ha! just realized that could be a pun--not intended). Season 4 is my favorite season of the show. Totally agree with your top 3! I still can't watch the scene with them all together so happy in the TARDIS in Journey's End without tearing up, and "Song of Freedom" is still my favorite DW soundtrack piece. It gives me chills every time.
    My top 10:
    10. Rise of Cybermen/Age of Steel
    9. Father's Day
    8. School Reunion
    7. Girl in the Fireplace
    6. The Doctor's Daughter
    5. Army of Ghosts/Doomsday
    4. End of Time
    3. Human Nature/Family of Blood
    2. Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead
    1.Stolen Earth/Journey's End

    2 things Jess.
    1. Just like Sarah Jane said in Journeys End “ When you become a whovian, you e got the biggest family on earth”. Glad you’re part of it. You’ve made my December.
    And
    2. Fun fact. Fires of Pompeii is Karen Gillian’s first appearance in Dr Who. She’s the first priestess we see in the street that spots the Doctor.

If I'm honest, there's a lot about the RTD I really, really don't like. I've come to appreciate the more sentimental moments a lot more as I've got older but there weren't many episodes I absolutely LOVED (then came Moffat and season 5, where I loved every episode). I think my top 3 at least would be:
    1) Midnight
    2) The Waters of Mars
    3) Human Nature/Family of Blood
I think the reason some folks hold those first two on my list in esteem is because they were surprises to us as viewers. If they’d been hyped by other people I’m certain they would have fallen much flatter than just going in blind. So I definitely see why they’re not your favorites.
But Human Nature and Family of Blood are definitely a really great 2-parter. I struggle to determine whether I like those better or the Silence in The Library/Forest of the Dead 2-parter better, but Nature/Blood takes the spot for now.

I think it's just because he was there from episode one and he was the only character that really acted how she would act so he was her only real source of relatability throughout the early seasons which she initially didn't enjoy much. It makes complete sense that you only character you have loved since the start would be the one you still cherish the most, especially when it's a character that only grows and matures throughout the show. I know it's much more than that but it's kind of hard to put into words x)

I ranked these when I saw the first of these videos and literally put that on pause for an hour and a half and did my own to compare. So here were my top ten: (your rank in parenthesis)
    1 Blink (6)
2 Girl in the Fireplace (26)
3 Human Nature / Family of Blood (3)
    4 Turn Left (4)
5 Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead (2)
    6 Midnight (21)
    7 School Reunion (7)
8 The Doctor Dances / The Empty Child (13)
    9 The Doctors Daughter (34)
10 The Fires of Pompeii (13)
The fires of Pompeii makes the list almost for meta reasons as it has both Amy Pond and the 12th Doctor in it (to this day there's only 20 eps without an actor from Fires making an appearance, second only to the Day of the Doctor)

This was an interesting ranking with well articulated reasoning; it is fascinating to see how differently episodes are appreciated by someone who came in so recently as a new viewer. I'm not sure that I agree with the rankings--but that's perhaps the whole point. My background is very different not only have I been a viewer since the Hartnell years but I also haven't rewatched the new series episodes since first transmission (I'm currently rewatching the *whole* series from 1963) so my memories aren't very fresh and my opinions are not strongly formed.

Not in my opinion, apart from S10 which I think was pretty poor. The Moffat era should have ended after Husbands..., or maybe Mysterio. However I do worry for Chibnall as the show doesn’t, I think, have a strong team of writers, and has lost its best (Moffat) and third best (RTD). He could do worse than bring back Cornell (2nd best writer imo), and maybe Russell would like to return for a one off. Although he’d probably want to bring back Rose and Jack, and Mickey and Martha, etc etc. Still at least Jess would like it!

  • @wobaguk

Out of interest, the Doctorless/Doctor-lite episodes were not an act of creative freedom, but necessity. Originally when the production schedule and budget and contracts etc were hammered out, there was no plan for Christmas specials. When they realised they wanted to make one in with the second season, they realised they would have to have two filming teams at the same time to fit it all in. Consequently one team filmed an episode in which The Doctor wasnt around, while David Tennant was elsewhere filming an episode. The reverse is also true, Midnight is an episode thats companion-lite. Its all one big logistical exercise to get 14 episodes out in the time they planned for 13.

I pretty much agree with this whole list tbh, bar a couple, but hey, no Doctor Who fan is going to be able to list everything in exactly the same order, that's the joy of the show. I'm with you on Blink, absolutly great episode, but for me, it doesn't have as big a rewatch factor as some of the others. Like I say, it's brilliant, the Weeping Angels are a fantastic creation, but Blink very heavily relies on it's jump scares, and when you don't have them, you've actually not got a lot. Unlike Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone which has so much more going on with it. Stolen Earth/Journeys End...Yeah. I can dig it. :)

    My thoughts on these episodes:
    10) The End of Time: Perhaps a little over the top. The goodbyes at the end drag on rather. Great story though.
    9) The Fires of Pompeii: Sure it was a good episode, but I'm not sure I'd call it top 10 material.
    8) The Next Doctor: As above. Her name was Rosita.
    7) School Reunion: Yes. The head teacher was a great villain. K9 and Sarah-Jane.
    6) Blink: Overrated in my opinion, but top 10 is still fair.
    5) Rise of the Cybermen/The Age of Steel: Let's just agree to disagree on this one. Decent but not top 10.
    4) Turn Left: Fair enough.
    3) Human Nature/The Family of Blood: Fair enough.
    2) Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead: Fair enough.
    1) The Stolen Earth/Journey's End: I like the build up but hate the ending. Way over the top. I don't like the word "cringe" but in this case I think it's appropriate.

I love lists. Especially lists that leads to fun discussion (instead of heated debates. :P).
Watching these lists actually made me go back and rewatch a bunch of old reactions of yours, so that was pretty great. How far we've come... As for my top ten RTD era? Oh that's a tough one... I mean, a bit easier since I don't have to include Moffat era as well, but still. I did this list ages ago, so I might need to rewatch and do some updating. Funnily enonugh, my very top is pretty similar to yours (and then not). Also, I usually put all the two parters separately, but to compare it to your list, I put them together instead, so I had to switch around some.
1.Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead
    2. Human Nature/The Family of Blood
    3. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
    4. Utopia/Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords (It's a mess. I have so many problems. Yet I love it. I'll say though, this is mostly this high up because of Utopia.)
    5. The Waters of Mars
    6. Dalek
    7. The End of Time Pt.1/Pt.2
    8. The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit
    9. Army of Ghosts/Doomsday
    10. Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways
(Turn Left actually ended up at number 11 on this list, but I was switching it out for number 10 a couple of times. Parting takes the cake just because I bawled my eyes out when Chris left.)
Looking forward to the rest of Who December!

please don't hate me :) PLEASE internet, don't hate me! but outside of Mickey, I don't like rise of the cybermen really much at all. please understand that I understand why everyone LOVES this story, but it's just not my thing. the villain was terrible to me. the cybermen r always cool, but not the villain himself. the doctor was stuck between way too much teenage love triangle drama again, and at that point, I was not in the mood with it. the story just felt clunky to me.
and outside of Martha, who was awesome in Human Nature/family of blood, and was actually the real hero of the story, I don't really care much for that story either. it's not terrible or anything, and there are some really good ideas there, but the Doctor was actually quite horrible in it. sorry, but hear me out b4 u hate on me.
    1) the doctor ran away from his own problem... and therefore was kind of a coward about things.
    2) he made himself human/ran to a place that was racist to his companion, instead of thinking of protecting her by putting her in a nicer place/era.
    3) the family comes and kills people (including an innocent little girl and one of the two white people who was written as a good person (jenny), and he continued to allow himself to remain hidden and told timothy to keep him hidden in the watch.
    4) as a result, many innocent people died bc he didn't face his own problem, until when he did at the last second... and the entire time, all he had to do was press some buttons in the enemies ship and make it explode. if the solution was that simple, then why didn't he do that before?
    5) he and the matron were terrible to Martha, and after she saved their lives, neither of them apologized to her for any of it or even thanked her for saving their lives.
    6) when the doctor became a timelord again, he was going to have the matron travel with him, knowing full well that she looked down on Martha in many ways, which would have been hell for Martha. but bc Martha had a crush on him, no one seems to care about her. sorry, but I can't agree with that mentality.
    7) the doctor doesn't apologize for any of the trouble that he caused by the end.
conclusion: I can't favor a story where the doctor ran away, allowed many to die bc of him when the solution was simple, never apologized for being terrible to his companion, and then just flies off. and his excuse was that he was 'being kind'. then he proceeds to torture the family of blood for all time, (understandable), but this was after he was willing to help the last dalek in daleks in manhattan after it killed thousands of people, and then he will go on to forgive the master who wiped out 1/10th of the earth's population and didn't regret any of it. his behavior is actually quite hypocritical to me with this.
and again, understand that I understand why people LOVE this episode, and I don't wish to disagree. I want to love this story, but the Doctor was just too terrible in it, and his companion was the real hero to me. PLEASE DON'T HATE ME. I understand why many like it. these r just the reasons for why I'm not crazy about it.
and there are things about the End of Time that i'm not crazy about either, but this post has gone on for long enough. great vid, sesska! love u :)

Jess, since you love Sarah Jane (as a lot of us do) you should do a reaction to The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith Pts 1 & 2 of The Sarah Jane Adventures Season 3. Tennant is guest star in the two episodes. They're only 28 minutes per episode. It's on Amazon Prime. Then react to Season 4 Death of the Doctor Pts 1 & 2 of The Sarah Jane Adventures. Matt Smith is guesting in the episodes. All four episodes are really good.

Antonio Chasten Lost Son of Krypton I liked the eps with Tenant, but unfortunately I thought they didn’t have a particularly good story for Smith. Worth it for Katy M though.

The story with Smith was okay. It wasn't his show so I'm not gonna knock his story plus maybe RTD felt he was Moffat's Doctor and not his. The 3rd Doctor is my favorite Doctor of Classic Who so yeah, seeing Jo Grant again was great.

Antonio Chasten Lost Son of Krypton It will be a long while till she gets to watch SJA. She's finishing Doctor Who first before moving on to the spin off shows. I look forward to the eventual reactions to some episodes though. IIRC, she said she's going to watch all episodes but she'll only react to some episodes for both spin offs.

lawrencegough At least you enjoyed the wedding episode. Out of curiosity, how many episodes did you watch? I love SJA. In terms of Doctor Who spin offs, it's probably my favourite. But Class is easily my least favourite spin off.
