A lot of people forget about cleaning the whole drum and the guides which results in dirt being dragged back into the heads. This is pretty much the same way I clean my video recorder

Hello, new subscriber here. Didactic and interesting videos, thank's very much.
Just one question, is there a possibility to demagnetize the vcr heads?
I saw your previous video on how to demagnetize reel to reel and compact cassette deck.
I recently purchased an Akai AH-15 demagnetizer but I have not used it yet.
Thanks in advance. Greetings from Barcelona.

Hi David and thanks for the sub. The video heads should not be demagnetized as more damage than good could be done, a good clean should solve any problems. As for the metal tape guides and audio head then they are fine to be demagnetized.

hi a audio tec told me to use white s and printer paper
i know it sounds mad it doe's work you let it get into the paper first
and light work run over the the heads with the paper DANGER DON'T way you been doing some have killed the video heads
in the decks way you done it
adat decks are now going for good money now so we audio fans get to find a safe way of cleaning the heads
funny thing my VCR 1502 heads are 100% ok hard grease killed the deck
and in a V2000 the later deck a gear went soft and came apart (brown deck)
i have alot of ADAT recorders and i all ways done it this way i have find the heads in the adats were not very chean
why they sold them on in the first place
hope any info i past on helps

Thanks for the info Bob, yes I have some good quality printer paper that really does a good job. Be careful with cheap very thin paper that it does not mush up and dont press to hard, just a very light touch does the job

I take it that its still saying clean heads. when cleaning use gentle pressure against drum, do this a few times, let it dry completely , if persists then just press a little harder next time.
If it still does not still says clean heads, then check your tape make sure its not a worn one. But if continues try a cleaning cassette. If still no joy proberly your vcr heads themselves or faulty sensor
