- "Black Is the Colour (of My True Love's Hair)" is a traditional folk song first known in the Appalachian Mountains region of the United States in 1915, but most probably originating from Scotland, as attributed to the reference to the Clyde in the song's lyrics
lyrics :
Black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some roses fair
She has the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands
And I love the ground whereon she stands
I love my love and well she knows
I love the ground whereon she goes
I wish the day it soon would come
When she and I will be as one
I go to the Clyde and I mourn and weep
For satisfied I never can be
I'll write her a letter just a few short lines
And I owe death a thousand times
Black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like red roses fair
She has the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands
And I love the ground whereon she stands Видеоклипы
This is so beautiful. Never knew he did this. 🙏🕊💚🎶🇮🇪
It's from the album Studio 150 - a covers album.
I've listened to many different versions including Christy Moore which is masterpiece! But this version touched me in a different way!
Im irish and this is my favourite version of this .
Just found this, in my view, a superb addition to the many covers, nina, rip...
Love it - sung from the heart. Great cover of a beautiful song (and yes, I love Christy Moore's and Nina Simone's - all soulful musicians). Voice communicates the sentiment and good enough for me! Thank you Paul...
I wrote her a few …… love lost is never replaced. Be well. 🙏🏻
I can imagine they had fiddles in the Appalachians too. Fantastic version. This, Nina Simone's and Christy Moore's are all absolutely fab.
. Thank You Paul. I Love Your Version of this Song. You have told the Story..
Thx for covering this Paul. 👏🇮🇪
Gorgeous
Stunning.
Great cover from the Modfather!
Check out the others on his brilliant Studio 150 album! 😲
👍☘️🇮🇪👏
This makes me cry, it's pretty much written about my ex
Beautiful
great version
There's an episode of the "Twighlight Zone" series with this song sung by an ex soldier from the American civil war, it's the B+W 60s series.
its an old irish folk song
i was wrong its American
@@johnmarshall6629 It does mention the River Clyde which is in Scotland obviously, but there's no record of this song in either Scotland or Ireland, so it is definitely an American song - though probably written by Scottish immigrants.
@@ICT17 read somewhere they believe the appalacian mountains hope speling is correct is where this might have been written ,alot of people thought it was irish because of christy moores version .
Sounds like a ballard from the 16th century lovely
It is.
@@joshuamiller1769 I think its originally American Appalachian
Good version,Hamish imlachs is the one to listen to.

Anyone here with perfect pitch? Is Weller a little flat in front of the guitar?
If you like this song.. check out christy moores version
...or alan burke's
🖤👄
Song written by Hamish Imlach
you do realise this was written a couple of hundred years ago so Hamish would have done well
@@johnmarshall6629 Lol.
Not written by Hamish Imlach, it originates from the Appalachians in the US. It was either written there or taken over by Scottish immigrants but there's no record of it ever being sung in Scotland so I'm happy to call it an American song.
Nothing will beat Christy Moore's version but this is surprisingly good with strings.
doesn't anyone like the Jean Ritchie version?
Beautiful Scottish Folk song. I like Nina Simones better but Pauls is great too.
Christy Moore is better good version though
I agree with you; I love Paul Weller and this is interesting but love Christy Moore’s version. The music is beautiful in this version also
Pity weller didn't do this when he had his voice,,,,, second rate now,, pity,,,
Well he reordered this 15 year ago so he definitely had a voice then
