as a New Zealander who spent a lot of time in Newcastle , Big Jack Charlton was a famous Geordie indeed. To me Newcastle is a city that has breed some very humble working class heroes indeed. I would often see a picture of Big Jack painted on the Metro station in Newcastle town centre. even I knew about Big Jack and all the great Geordie footballers like Jack and his brother Bobby , The Milburns, Paul Gascoigne, Chris Waddle, Steve Bruce,Peter Beardsley, Bryan Robson and of course the great Sir Bobby Robson to name few indeed :)
