Kevin Byrne My grandpa said if you arrive at dinner time & find parking immediately than somethings not right. He said you should spend at least 2 minutes trying to find parking
My brother once told me that if a restaurant relies on a gimmick to attract customers, the food is probably not good. In my area, a restaurant opened which was intended to imitate an American diner from the 1950s, including waitresses wearing "poodle" skirts (short, flared skirts), lots of photos of cars from the 1950s, lots of shiny chrome, ... The food was terrible -- some of the worst that I've ever eaten. The place closed within a year, despite all of the money that was spent to build and to decorate it.
I wouldnt even call this obvoius, more like "ideas we pulled from our asses". Some of the best restaurants i've been too had either a shitty sitting system, long waits, and/or dirty bathrooms. Good food trumps all those things. Alot of the best hole in the wall restaurants are dirty and have long wait times since the cook may be doing most of the work himself, but he may still be really awesome.
*a hoard of servers walk over to you, begin clapping, and singing VERY loudly* "1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4 Happy Happy Birthday, From All Of Us To you. We Wish It Was Our Birthday, So We Could Party Too. Hey!!! *everyone gleefully cheers and claps like maniacs with forced smiles* *shudders and cringes* Most awkward thing.
Rule number 1: is the menu huge? Restaurants that have ridiculously big menus often cannot make their dishes to order so you end up with frozen food being reheated. A real restaurant has a menu that is about 10 to 20 items or less.
unless the kitchen staff is also responsible for taking care of the bathrooms then the bathroom to kitchen cleanliness ratio on the list doesn't add up. ive run restaurants and bars for a long time and usually the bus boys are responsible for the bathrooms during business hours and the janitor cleans them at night. i have never seen a chef that is responsible for the kitchen and the bathrooms and if you're at a restaurant where that is the case you should probably get the hell out of there as quickly as possible.
A Google User ya, like i said. bussers, expos, waitstaff, host/hostess, whatever. not the chef though, who is usually the one to set the standard for how the kitchen is kept. the point is that to say the bathroom is representative of the kitchen is completely ridiculous.
The first one shouldn't be on this list If I'm dealing with a table and so are the other waiters there's no chance of someone wasting time to say "hi" and have a chat when orders need to be put through or tables need to cleared. You can say hi when when you take the order. If anything its a good sign if your waiting and you should think its a good place because its so busy. One tip is be careful of the specials board because its normally full of food that we need to get rid of or we make the most money of. I always look at the staff hygiene.
Completely disagree. If the staff is so busy that new patrons entering aren't greeted or given any direction (Hey, there will be a short wait, etc etc) that 100% means the staffing isn't being managed properly. Either there aren't enough and current staff are being spread too thin, or staff isn't being lead to prioritize interactions, both are failures of restaurant management, and if they are failing at staffing it's almost guaranteed they are failing at other aspects as well. "Who has time to clean the kitchen, there are orders to go out!" "Who has time to follow up with tables to make sure everything is alright, there are orders to go out!" you can excuse almost anything with that line of thinking - until your restaurant looks like it needs to be on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares and management still cant see the issue. Too often do I see these types of excuses by restaurants that lose money month over month and blame it on things like 'people just don't eat out as much'.
Every waiter MUST have the time to say ''hey, we have seen you, but it's gonna be a short wait''. If you don't, it means you don't care about customers because, it takes literally 0 seconds of your time if you do it while passing by, or, if you're nowhere near, just give them a nod, make it clear that you've noticed them.
It's for dumbass foreigners that aren't used to good American restaurants.. they only know shit restaurants because that's what they're used to in their country.
Most of it was pretty obvious. But, you know, we sometimes are not sure about the connection between the quality of a restaurant, and various behaviors of workers at a restaurant... We know about snootiness at fancy restaurants, crappy/juvenile behaviors at cheap restaurants/fast food places, and other behaviors, like the rush-rush thing at very busy restaurants/at certain times of the day, etc. But we expect these things... Sometimes we come to "accept" them over time, even though they are generally not acceptable. If, at a very fancy restaurant, someone is underdressed, etc., I seriously doubt they would automatically be shown the door, unless they were particularly dirty or rough looking, etc. I suppose it depends on the restaurant/how good it REALLY is... And people are different. Restaurants are different. Cultures and nations are different. The human element to all this, is, primarily the element that can make these things a bit less obvious at times...
We went to a Golden Corral once where when we asked the waitress for some dinner rolls. She went to another table where the guests had finished their meal and brought us their left over dinner rolls!😱 Needless to say we informed the manager, who brought us some fresh rolls, but it was the last time we'll ever eat there.
Well... I doubt they normally serve them again. However, in a restaurant where I used to work we'd send out baskets of sliced garlic bread with just about everything. When the tables were cleared the leftover bread would be put in containers, and then later would be cut up, seasoned, toasted, and served as croutons (they were good too!) We'd also take the leftover bread, put it in the oven until it was thoroughly toasted and then grind them up as bread crumbs.
Me and my family went to a restaurant once, and the waitress literally acted like we weren’t there at all. It was stupid and she served everyone besides us.
Hooters, Destin, Fla. 25 years ago, my wife was pregnant, we weren't ordering alcohol, our waitress took our order then spent the next half hour sitting on the laps and showing her thong to the men at tables who were drinking. Finally another server brought us our order and apologized, too bad the food was garbage. we vowed to never go to another Hooters. 15 years later, Biloxi, Miss. Hooters next door to the hotel, we walked over with the kids and had one of the best meals and service ever. Its all in the management.
1:03 Glad you mentioned it, because that was what happened to me when I took my wife and son to dennies late one night. There were four empty tables that had not yet been cleaned off. Looking back on it now, that should have been a major red flag for us to leave. The server, an awkward fat dude who you can tell had not showered in a few days, got our order wrong in more than one way, and even though we explicitly told him to bring out the appetizer _before_ the rest of the meal, it was delivered to us at the same time, except my son's meal was not brought to the table until ten minutes later. Ever since that night, we legitimately won't go to that dennies ever again.
I have always held that the condition of the restroom reflects the condition of the kitchen. This is a serious sign of how the establishment you are in is being managed. I only wish that the local health departments would be more diligent in following up on restaurants more frequently.
This is totally true. I went to Bahama Breeze with my hubby for our 11th anniversary. We had to sit at the bar until a table was ready. We were ignored for 20 minutes by the bartender.....It got worse from there. It took almost 40 minutes before we saw our waiter, when he finally did take our order, it took almost 2 hours to get appetizers out. I was beyond annoyed. We got there at 4 we didn't leave until 7:30‼️ we wanted dinner, but there was no way I was waiting an hour for that to come out. By the time the appetizers came out I didn't even want to stay and eat. I was ready to go. As soon as the appetizers came out I told him to get me 2 2 go plates and check please. We would've been gone, except we couldn't find anybody to bring us the check. I even asked another waitress. She told me I had to wait for my server. To top all this off, we were sat at a table that was dirty, they had a fan outside that was blowing water on us. Absolutely the worse dining experience and I've had some doozies.
The worst dinning experience I've had is at Outback Steakhouse. Ever since they started using the table top computers, customer service has gone out the back door. Love the food but until they learn that those stupid boxes have ruined the dinning experience, I won't eat there
We went to a restaurant at the House of Mouse in Florida one time (Italian food) and the server was HORRIBLE! We spent TWO HOURS in that restaurant, watching her go from table to table flirting with other women's husbands, even sitting at one of their tables right beside him. And this wasn't a young girl either; she looked more like Flo from Mel's Diner! She took TWO SMOKE BREAKS while we were in the restaurant, and another server had to get us our one refill (we didn't drink alcohol, so I'm guessing that's why we were constantly ignored; no up-sells.) When another server finally got our food for us, it was stone cold from sitting in the kitchen for a while. She did bring the bill though; she was even kind enough to put her tip on the bill for us! We asked for a manager and had it removed with the full story of how she had treated not only us but all the customers at the restaurant, all while she stood there turning five shades of angry red. We didn't get any discounts or anything because, hey, the mouse gets his. But we'll never go back to that restaurant. It's kind of a shame too, because it's really a beautiful restaurant. I just wish I could have told ol' Flo to "kiss my grits."
I had a bad restaurant experience before. It was at a Red Lobster in Time Square (that is now shut down), and the wait time was atrocious. What about the food? It was subpar and not worth leaving a tip for the wait staff. I and several others in my group waited for over 3 hrs just to have dinner there only to be disappointed.
I've gone into Verts Kebap on 3 occasions. Not a single time was I greeted other than to be asked, "what would you like?" Never once a "hello", or a "how can I help you?", and usually the "what would you like".... comes long (20-30 seconds) after the person before me has been served. ... so no, Verts... no. I will NEVER give them another $.
Vote with your feet. Leave no tip--and explain why. Contact the restaurant's manager by email or certified letter about your experience. If it's a chain, contact the regional office and (if no response), then contact the corporate offices. Detail the day, date, and time with your server's and/or host's/hostess's name. If you return after that notification, and nothing has changed, DON'T GO BACK. It's really that simple.
A Google User--So what? Do you think wait staff aren't EQUALLY responsible for the conditions at a restaurant? Have you NEVER eaten in a restaurant where the food was good but the service was p*ss-poor? Poor service; not tip. If you are STUPID enough to perpetrate the poor quality of service as well as food, so be it.
My local coffee cafeteria (coffee shop) serves the best breakfast (full English of course) and the staff are fantastic. As a disabled person I appreciate it when they make the time to bring you your coffee to the table for you, even though it is not a waitress served establishment, all in all a really great little place, and the coffee is only £1 a mug. For those of you in the 🇬🇧 you would see it on the E4 channel estings described as various things like “cafe jellybotty” or “cafe spoon greasy” but I assure you that even the best 5star restaurants can’t beat it for service or value for money.
This happened to me one time at Dennys. I was seated pretty quickly but after that I was ignored for the entire time; after waiting for 30 minutes I just left and went to Burger King
We once went into a café in Barcelona. My mom ordered a coffee and the café was super busy. After waiting for a while the waitress came and apologized. Then we waited more, it happened again. The third time she came with coffee and for apologies gave it for free.
Going to restaurants should be, attitude wise, like doing a business deal: You should be prepared to walk away. You walk in and things start to look or go wrong, walk away. You can't win with restaurant staff. They control your food out of your sight. Watch _Waiting_ for background. Just walk.
You walk in during a slow time and most of the staff is playing with their germ ridden phone. Means they aren't doing the little side jobs like cleaning the S&P shakers and menus that need attention.
Most bad experiences I've had were from racist servers / hosts. At an Applebees, my husband and I walked in and a black lady was at the host stand. Stood there for about 2 minutes before I walked up to her and said "hello?" She then, without even looking at us just walked away and started cleaning a table - not even bothering to get someone else to tend to us. Another situation was at a KFC. Might as well have had a sign on their door that read "Service for blacks only" cause that's what it felt like. Standing and waiting for like 10 minutes and not a single person greeted us. Then a black customer walked in and was Immediately greeted "Hello sir, what can I do for you this evening?" We just left and ate elsewhere.
Signs you're in a bad restaurant: Terrible food ... this should be obvious. Great service is important sure but the food is everything at a restaurant. I don't go to a restaurant to hang out with the fucking waiters and then pay them for their company, I go out for the food.
3:02 Oh hell no! I don't care how good the food is! If hygiene and cleanliness isn't up to date, that can be passed onto to you and even make you sick. NO FOOD is worth that!
I went to a Denny's and there was no one eating and it took thirty minutes before a hostess led me and my family to a table. The food was also terrible. Wrong food was given and the waiters and waitresses were rude
I went to a Dennys and waited for food for 45 minutes in a barely-occupied restaraunt. Yeah, they paid for my meal that night since my breakfast came with slimey, uncooked fried eggs (easiest fucking thing to cook) and stone cold meat. That was BS. And for anybody that's gonna bitch at me - save it. I'm not going to pay for a stone cold meal that is half undone, and was waited near an hour for. Not to forget, while I was waiting, the waitress to my table was busy flapping her gums to her coworkers instead of getting food out.
Same thing happened to me once. I got to the point where I offered (in all seriousness) to go into the kitchen and cook my own food. Finally a manager showed up (she was managing two stores), and I got my food... it was wrong but close enough, tasted fine and was free... and I wasn't in a hurry anyway.
Hubby and I went to Applebee's , it was the waitress first day. I completely understand she was nervous, frazzled...but She messed up every single order. She didn't get not one thing right. I knew that was going to happen because she didn't write anything down. I asked for a dirty martini with olives, she brings me an appletini.. Like what the fuck? My appetizer was suppose to come with bbq sauce, it looked like a little bit of bbq sauce was just thrown on some unappetizing pieces of meat.. I bit my tongue when she messed up my drink. I can just go to the bar and get my dirty martini.... But the appetizers had me make a stank face. I guess the manager on duty saw my face and the fact I hadn't touched the appletini. I told him that's not the drink I ordered, the food looked like someone took bites before sending it out. He looked at the appetizers and saw why I made a stank face. He was very nice, he replaced my drink and appetizer. He also explained it was her first day. I figured that out when she brought me an appletini. She had an excuse it was her first day.. I hope she's better at her job now. I don't think any of her tables was happy that night. She even brought the wrong dinner to our table. She was pretty bad😂😂
Sound like a management problem. If it was her first day she should have had an experienced waitress working with her to show her the ropes. Being a waitress is NOT an easy job.
.... Sooo if the cleaners or FOH management don't keep up on the bathroom..... then the kitchen is dirty...... that makes 0 sense. My kitchen is clean. And so aren't the bathrooms. But if for some reason the bathrooms being cleaned.. my kitchen doesn't . Magically get dirty.
Ok so there was this one time we went to a restaurant and were seated right away but weren't greeted at the table. My mom then asked a waitress and it turned out they didnt even know we weren't helped yet/ even there. Our waitress then came over and apologized. She was extremely nice. The food there was amazing (as it always is there) and we even had a delicious dessert. So, if you aren't attended to in a timely manner, just ask, because they are people too! :)
I had the worst at a so-called family restaurant at Applebee's. Nobody opened the door so my Mother could get in and they refused to waited on her because she was in a wheelchair! The headquarters all they could was"I''m sorry. What do you want us to do about it?"
The bathroom thing is dumb. The kitchen isn't responsible for front of house. It might be a sign of bad management but kitchens and front are always run seperately. Check the plating if you want to know how the kitchen is run. Dirty plates, finger prints or generally sloppy plating is a better sign of a sloppy kitchen.
Getting ignored is definitely a bad sign that the waiters have not been properly educated in customer service. Doesn't mean the rest of the place sucks though. In the case of my workplace, it's impossible not to notice new guests, as the bar, and counter of our waiters, points directly to the entrance. Yep, if your dishes are dirty when you get your food, send it back, it means the dishwasher didn't do their job properly, and the chefs didn't pay attention either while plating. Silverware has to be cleaned about 2-3 times in the machine (depending on how much there is) before it's properly cleaned. Drinking glass needs a separate machine alltogether. (so it doesn't get that gray-ish tint) The menu being dirty is no indication as to how kitchen staff cleans the kitchen. The bathrooms being gross has nothing to do with the kitchen. Kitchen staff should NEVER be responsible for cleaning the toilet. That would be... Unhygienic. But yes, it does ruin your overall experience. Peoples emotions can't be trusted, they may be in a very bad mood or not, that doesn't have to depend on the food alone. Of course, bad food will tend to make people angrier, while good food will have the opposite effect. Yup, if staff isn't happy about their jobs, or making mistake after mistake, somethings wrong. But that doesn't always have to be on the management level, there could be a rookie in the establishment for example, or something unexpected happens. That one is absolutely true. The main reason people come into a restaurent, is the food, everything else can be terrible, but if the food is too, well, then it's not worth it. Kind of obvious, no?
Went to a popular restaurant for breakfast in Kauai immediately after opening. There were racks of dirty dishes in the kitchen from the night before. That's your "sign" right there
So I can reassure that these tips are true. Went to Applebees, waited 5 to 10 minutes before anyone said a word to us. Very few people even in the restaurant, and then once we sat down, never been introduced as to who our server was, 20 min later, finally got someone to take our drinks, not even our server mind you, and after another 10 min, she finally came to take our order. There was just 4 of us, ordering the cheapest thing on the menu that we thought wouldn't take long to make because we we're tired from driving all day. So it took 30 min before we got our onion rings. We looked at the tablet that showed us our bill and when it popped up saying $80, we said forget it. Also, my silverware was dirty, and I saw a server wipe her nose and face and didn't even wash her hands. She looked at the snot and wiped it on her pants. And we waited for about an hour for our food. Never again will I go to apple bees. Also had the same experience with ocharley
One time I tried a restaurant and ordered some sweet tea. I waited for what felt like forever and it was empty. I left before I got my drink. I figured that if it took that long to get a drink, how long would it take to get food?
This tips about how clean a place is are bullshit. Different teams handle different parts of the place. The kitchen staff might clean the kitchen spotless, but the staff in charge of cleaning the bathroom are slobs. Same goes true with the dishes vs menus. In my place of work, the wait staff or host staff clean the menus. The dishwasher or kitchen staff would clean the dishes. Two different teams can have completely different standards and people working in it.
But it still reflects on how the place is run. If the bathroom is neat and clean it's likely the kitchen is too. In my restaurant days the kitchen staff, principally the dishwasher, was responsible for keeping the restrooms clean.
Jeff DeWitt Yeah ideally the management team holds everyone to high standards but the let's be honest, just because the bathrooms are a wreck at 1pm at the busy local brunch spot doesn't mean the kitchen is filthy.
I understand the restrooms can get messy during a rush, but if they really need attention that's something that management should have planned for. I spent 20 years in that business (about 17 too many!) and know what goes on and what I'm talking about.
I worked as kitchen help and dishwasher in a high end resturant ..at the end of the night it looked like a food fight went on in the kitchen and the left their homemade noodles out all day with lots of flys on them
I'll add to that. There was a family style restaurant in our home town, the food was great, the service was great and it was fairly clean. A Greek family owned the place but had to let all the Greek workers go in leu of hiring kitchen and wait staff that would work for less. The quality of the food slipped a little and the place started to look run down but the food was still better than most of the restaurants in town. One morning we went in for one of their incredible breakfasts. In the center of the restaurant is the station where the bus boys filled baskets with rolls and rolled the silverware up in the napkins to place on the tables. One of the bus boys began to pick his nose. Wait, it gets better. He then could be seen by our half of the restaurant wiping what he picked out of his nose on his pants. I wish I could say that the guy immediately went to the restroom and washed his hands but he didn't. He continue to put dinner rolls into basket with HIS BARE, ANWASHED HANDS! I cringe when I think of all the meals I ate at this restaurant. We complained to the hostess and told us to wait and tell the owner but we were in a hurry to leave and told her to tell the owner. I hope she did.
If I'm ignored on entry or if I have any other unpleasant or rude experience before I order I'm out straight away... Also keep them in check between courses... If food isn't cooked as per order send it back and ask for a free desert as compensation... I'm prepared to walk out if your service is shit... I do my job properly so you should also
my family and i went to a dennys 2 days ago. we were seated right away bc there wasnt alot of people in the rwstaurant so we started ok. server took like 5 mimutes to come to our table she took our drink order and then took 10 minutes to comw back i order a chocolaye milk in a frosty cup for my daughter and she didnt brought it. then took our food order and food took wayyyyy too long she never checked to see if we needed more drinks which we did. i order a skillet that had muchrooms potatoes spinach grape tomatoes and salmon.. well EVERYTHING was over cook specially the salmon it was just sooooo dry it was horrible. then mh daughter order a kids milk shake but we never got it. and then to make matters worse our server was rushed to the bospital in an ambulance bc she over dosed om some shit in the bathroom our experience there was sooo awfull but we never got to see the manager we asked for a togo box and never got it. it was just bad.
When we were in Orlando on vacation a couple years ago, we went to an IHOP for a late dinner, since we didn't leave Universal studios until it closed and it has PERMANENTLY ruined IHOP for me. First of all, it was very packed and loud and once we got to our table, the waitress told us that there was only 2 cooks working that night. Second of all, it was 12-1 p.m when we got seated and my little brother and I fell asleep and the food took forever to get there. Third of all, when the food arrived, it was cold and it was terrible. Moral of the story, don't eat at an IHOP in Florida.
Walking into a restaurant restroom and seeing cooks exit a stall wearing their kitchen aprons or cooks taking a smoke break and walking back into kitchen and no one washed their hands. Poor ownership poor management....wake up people.
Went to a local fondue restaurant once (since we never tried it before) and everything (table, cutlery, plates, 'vinyl' seats, even the candles) had a sticky coating of something, like old rancid oil that caked on and was never cleaned. The lighting was low, and everything looked grungy. We actually ordered (we should have walked right out!) and the food was old and dry, and they only brought out small pieces of old, dry, broccoli, tiny cubes of cheese, and other veggies that looked like they were forgotten at the back of the fridge! Really horrible experience. And they charged a lot for this "experience" as well. Seriously, we probably should have called the health dept. on them! Not kidding, worst experience at a restaurant ever.
Other than the fact that more customers than staff visit the bathrooms and a lot of customers for some reason like to deface restrooms. Im gonna wager the kitchen is NOT in the same condition as a restroom, might want to rethink that one...
Id like to say as a chef the cleanliness of the bathrooms and dining room is no indication of the cleanliness of tge kitchen. The chefs and back of house staff clean the kitchen. The front of house staff cleans the front of the house. Two groups of ppl clean two different ways it could be clean front and dirty kitchen or clean kitchen and dirty dining room
i mean iv gone to restaurants where you seat yourself, and go up to a counter to give your order, foods still good, and wouldnt waiting to be served because everyone's busy be better than walking in and the restaurant is empty and your easily seated
I was in a IHOP earlier this week with friends who wanted breakfast and i got an immediate sign that i was in a bad restaurant..stinky waiter, as soon as he walked up to the table i smelled him..SMH
once we were in a resturant and my mom went to the bathroom and one of the toilets had overflowed with poop and the other was completely disgusting aswell. there was poop all over the floor and she just got the hell out of there
I went to a pizza hut for my birthday with a group of friends and had to send back at least 3 dirty plates and cutlery. I wasn't too happy with it as that pizza hut was in a popular place so i was paying a lot more than i should have.
i know a lady who always...no matter where...order a cup of hot hot water. she then puts her fork spoon and knife in the hot water for a few minutes. she's freaky about germs, lol
Once upon a time, good service was rewarded by a good tip. Now, bad service is so ordinary, the tip is added to the bill so restaurants don't have to bother with firing and hiring as often.
I was once in a restaurant where a waitress knocked my drink on me. It was an accident, but I didn't leave much of a tip because she completely ruined my shirt. I then heard her bitching about how cheap I was as I was heading out the door. Sometimes even a great place has black sheep employees.
Nothing beats the professional consistency and reliability of Chef Boyardee Macaroni. A family of 8 can dine for less than $10 TOTAL .. counting roll / butter .. and beverage.
One time many years ago my parents and I went to our local Pizza Hut. We got seated, and then we waited and waited and waited. Didn't even get menus. Meanwhile, a nearby table of about 12-15 people got seated, served, ate, and left while we were still waiting. We weren't the only table that happened to.

Why do you show a full English for your "Terrible Food" heading?! Fuck you! A full English breakfast beats crappy American junk any day!

Good sign: People waiting to be seated / served.
Bad sign: Empty parking lot.

My grandpa said if you arrive at dinner time & find parking immediately than somethings not right. He said you should spend at least 2 minutes trying to find parking
I agree with waiting to be seated and was puzzled it was on this list. When your busy you simply don't have the time to say "hi"
Although I have gone to amazing restaurants where there were only a couple of other people there.
Kevin Byrne but what is yore a brand new restaurant?
My brother once told me that if a restaurant relies on a gimmick to attract customers, the food is probably not good. In my area, a restaurant opened which was intended to imitate an American diner from the 1950s, including waitresses wearing "poodle" skirts (short, flared skirts), lots of photos of cars from the 1950s, lots of shiny chrome, ... The food was terrible -- some of the worst that I've ever eaten. The place closed within a year, despite all of the money that was spent to build and to decorate it.
Here's my tip: if you walk into a restaurant and all you smell is disinfectant, not good food, leave immediately.
Queen Bee lol
at least you know they tried to clean

next weeks episode from Captain Obvious: how to figure out if youre in pain
No, it's very obvious. I think you have "being sick" confused with being in pain.
And after that: Signs that you're in a Nazi containment camp.
lol
Let me show you
Rule #1: don't go to any place that sings the Happy Birthday song.
Giovanni Gomez cute dog.
LL Armstrong you obviously don't eat out much nor keep up with the current news. That case was dismissed already.
I live by that rule, also my kids haven't spoken to me for years. everyone wins.
*a hoard of servers walk over to you, begin clapping, and singing VERY loudly* "1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4 Happy Happy Birthday, From All Of Us To you. We Wish It Was Our Birthday, So We Could Party Too. Hey!!! *everyone gleefully cheers and claps like maniacs with forced smiles*
*shudders and cringes* Most awkward thing.
Uh not really, there's an amazing family run Tex Mex place near where I live and they always sing happy birthday for peoples birthdays
Rule number 1: is the menu huge? Restaurants that have ridiculously big menus often cannot make their dishes to order so you end up with frozen food being reheated. A real restaurant has a menu that is about 10 to 20 items or less.
10 items or less? Maybe if a restaurant has less than 10-15 tables
If you saw the restaurant in an episode of Kitchen Nightmares it's probably a sign that it's bad!
Well, not exactly...
Generally, the restaurant has been fixed by the time the episodes go up.
Or out of business.

unless the kitchen staff is also responsible for taking care of the bathrooms then the bathroom to kitchen cleanliness ratio on the list doesn't add up. ive run restaurants and bars for a long time and usually the bus boys are responsible for the bathrooms during business hours and the janitor cleans them at night. i have never seen a chef that is responsible for the kitchen and the bathrooms and if you're at a restaurant where that is the case you should probably get the hell out of there as quickly as possible.
A Google User ya, like i said. bussers, expos, waitstaff, host/hostess, whatever. not the chef though, who is usually the one to set the standard for how the kitchen is kept. the point is that to say the bathroom is representative of the kitchen is completely ridiculous.
and the dirty menus lol
Waste of time. Everything in this video is so obvious. What was the point?
It's for dumbass foreigners that aren't used to good American restaurants.. they only know shit restaurants because that's what they're used to in their country.
4SCARECROWS. We clicked on it. Mission accomplished.
VIIIIEEEEEREWWWWWWSSSSS
you walk into a restaurant and smell old or burnt grease turn around as fast as you can...

How to tell if youre in a bad restaurant:
1) Its a bad restaurant
We went to a Golden Corral once where when we asked the waitress for some dinner rolls. She went to another table where the guests had finished their meal and brought us their left over dinner rolls!😱 Needless to say we informed the manager, who brought us some fresh rolls, but it was the last time we'll ever eat there.
I'm not a GC fan, but that's not really fair to GC, that's a bad waitress.
Glenn Lego EWWWWWWW.
To be fair that is probably what they’re doing in the back anyways. You think they throw away unused rolls?
Or you could invite Gordon Ramsay and wait for the roasting to begin.
I agree to this as once as a server and now a cook.
Same here, I used to work as a runner for a very expensive Western-style Japanese cafe in a big Japanese mall.
I just wish I could have told ol' Flo to "kiss my grits."
saffie girl its florida duh
That's sad. I won't be going there either if that's the type of unprofessional staff they hire.
I think i know who u were talking about. Was the girl a belly dancer
Because a mouse's house
That's the kind of review I'd read in Google maps!
So true. Every time I decided to go ahead and eat at a restaurant where I was ignored at the door, it always ended horribly wrong!!

Tania Bams who the fuck goes to Red Lobster when their are a ton of great places to eat in New York?
There Food can't be good if everything else listed is taking place just sayin
This really needs to be renamed, "Signs you are too stupid to eat if you are so dumb that you hadn't figured any of these out yet by yourself"!
LOL exactly right!
Hey this is the voice actress from WatchMojo
How about bad customers some customers are pricks especially in retail
woman hood GoodPoint. It works both ways.
I've been on both sides of that fence!
Signs your in a bad restaurant:
The food is bad
I never would have thought poor quality food would be a sign of a bad resteraunt, cheers guys I'll make sure to take it into account next time
the proof has never really been in the pudding
Drew Dienno lol
well, actually Drew, it iS if you learn how to make it properly. Badly made pudding is disgusting.
Hank Austin burnn. hoisted by my own petard
This happened to me one time at Dennys. I was seated pretty quickly but after that I was ignored for the entire time; after waiting for 30 minutes I just left and went to Burger King
leeann van You were better off.
We once went into a café in Barcelona. My mom ordered a coffee and the café was super busy. After waiting for a while the waitress came and apologized. Then we waited more, it happened again. The third time she came with coffee and for apologies gave it for free.
"waiter, there's a fly in my soup"
"fly, there's a soup in my waiter"
"soup, there's a waiter in my fly"
all actual signs of a bad restaurant
I lost 800 braincells while reading this
Going to restaurants should be, attitude wise, like doing a business deal: You should be prepared to walk away. You walk in and things start to look or go wrong, walk away.
You can't win with restaurant staff. They control your food out of your sight. Watch _Waiting_ for background.
Just walk.
K. Chris Caldwell Best Advice.Just walk away.
Oh, good thing I saw this because I wouldn't have known whether or not I was at a crappy restaurant.
"Fuck me. IT'S RAW!!!!"
I'm Only Happy When it Reigns
The water is frozen!
RockinIan121
U must b talking about Denny's in hanford can
i went too a denny's just like that, and the experience was most likely even worse
But the appetizers
had me make a stank face.
Martine Davis you're first mistake was...going to "Crapplebees". Lol
Sound like a management problem. If it was her first day she should have had an experienced waitress working with her to show her the ropes. Being a waitress is NOT an easy job.
Dirty martini? You're lucky you didn't get a martini in a dirty glass.
Martine Davis ewwwww hubby
"Hubby and I" 😂 I love when people say that
Probably busy someplace else and didn't see you right away. Happens when people go to the patio too without making sure they are seen first.
If a cockroach runs across your table...
I had the worst at a so-called family restaurant at Applebee's. Nobody opened the door so my Mother could get in and they refused to waited on her because she was in a wheelchair! The headquarters all they could was"I''m sorry. What do you want us to do about it?"
That's one of those cases where you should have called your local news crew-Then they'll 'do something about it!
The worse sign possible: Gordon Ramsay is spitting food right next to you
In my hometown, the number one sign that you're in a bad restaurant is if you're still in town. We have no good food.
Cernan WinterFox GoodPoint.
(so it doesn't get that gray-ish tint)
The menu being dirty is no indication as to how kitchen staff cleans the kitchen.
That's your "sign" right there
You'll know it's a bad restaurant once Gordon Ramsay walks in with a camera crew.
obviously never worked as a waiter or in a restaurant.
One other sign of a bad restaurant is if the soda is from a can. Because it's often charging you per can and the food tends to be bad.
Strange comment. Do you expect free drinks? Its also got nothing to do with the quality of food.
How did you get a photo of my bathroom? Its the second photo.
The cleanliness problems, along with rude waiters, bad food, dirty rest rooms, etc. are ALL due to bad management & owner apathy.
I remember when I was like 9 I went to this place and bathroom smelt like shit and o threw up so THAT HAPPENED
Lunch or dinner time and little or no cars in the parking lot. #1
There is a buffet that passes the best expectations of a good buffet
When we were in Orlando on vacation a couple years ago, we went to an IHOP for a late dinner, since we didn't leave Universal studios until it closed and it has PERMANENTLY ruined IHOP for me. First of all, it was very packed and loud and once we got to our table, the waitress told us that there was only 2 cooks working that night. Second of all, it was 12-1 p.m when we got seated and my little brother and I fell asleep and the food took forever to get there. Third of all, when the food arrived, it was cold and it was terrible. Moral of the story, don't eat at an IHOP in Florida.
P.S I forgot to include the fact that we tried to get dinner on Citywalk at this one Mexican place, but the wait time was 45 minutes
P.S (again) I ment to say A.M, not P.M, sorry
You’re more likely to get ignored if you seat yourself down in the restaurant, just wait to be seated
I was in a IHOP earlier this week with friends who wanted breakfast and i got an immediate sign that i was in a bad restaurant..stinky waiter, as soon as he walked up to the table i smelled him..SMH
Applebee's can be a negative or positive ...case in point the airport service at Applebee's is awesome especially in NY and Chicago
Happened to me, once. After I ate the table food, we left, WITHOUT paying for the rolls.
I was at Denny’s when I waited 2 hours, the manager passed me many times, and when I finally got my food like 2 more hours later it was horrible...
Signs you're in a bad restaurant: The sign outside says Chili's, Outback, Texas Roadhouse, Applebees, Cheesecake Factory, etc.
once we were in a resturant and my mom went to the bathroom and one of the toilets had overflowed with poop and the other was completely disgusting aswell. there was poop all over the floor and she just got the hell out of there
I went to a pizza hut for my birthday with a group of friends and had to send back at least 3 dirty plates and cutlery. I wasn't too happy with it as that pizza hut was in a popular place so i was paying a lot more than i should have.
Leena Myst really? I haven’t seen a dine in Pizza Hut in years, probably 10 years.
On Mothers day my family went out to eat, and they had bugs in the food.
Don't go to a restaurant if Gordon Ramsay went there for Kitchen Nightmares.
i know a lady who always...no matter where...order a cup of hot hot water. she then puts her fork spoon and knife in the hot water for a few minutes. she's freaky about germs, lol
Once upon a time, good service was rewarded by a good tip.
Now, bad service is so ordinary, the tip is added to the bill so restaurants don't have to bother with firing and hiring as often.
Chris Duke GoodPoint.
"Terrible food" is a sign you are in a bad restaurant. Way to unveil the biggest and most secretive sign for last.....
I was once in a restaurant where a waitress knocked my drink on me. It was an accident, but I didn't leave much of a tip because she completely ruined my shirt. I then heard her bitching about how cheap I was as I was heading out the door. Sometimes even a great place has black sheep employees.
This shows how awesome McDonald’s is
When ever i go to Perkins that place is perfect! The bathrooms are clean no bored ppl and no dirty dishes kitchens or bathrooms!!!!
Nothing beats the professional consistency and reliability of Chef Boyardee Macaroni. A family of 8 can dine for less than $10 TOTAL .. counting roll / butter .. and beverage.
Coming from the kitchen: "AND THE BIG SUPRISE IS, THE FUCKING BASS IS FUCKING *RAW*!
nooooooooo, dirty dishes and bad service means a bad restaurant!?! Holy shit my eyes have been opened
Staffing issues probably. They didn't have enough people.
@@willman9567 Yet they had enough people to serve a large group?
@@jb888888888 The large group was probably planned. Management issue.
