Summer is over and it's back to school for some of the members of Cali Smoed. While Angel is enjoying the home school life, Gabi is returning to public school after a 5-year hiatus. Will the culture shock be too much for her or will she enjoy what high school has to offer?

Clara I have to wake up at 5 to go to school at 8:05, but only because I take forever to pick my clothes and stuff 😂
Hahah I wake up at around 7:00/7:05/7:10/7:15/7:20 lol (I have a bunch of alarms) and I get pi ked up at around 7:30ish my bus comes at different times hahaha

I get up at 4, have practice at 5, school at 8, practice at 3, study at 9. It’s nuts

I honestly love Gabi's mom so much... She's just so ,like, real! And Gabi maybe decided to return to florida becuase of school too.. Maybe it got worse and she wanted to leave... But I TOTALLY get her wiith the "cheer vs 'normal' people" situation! It's two different worlds!

And even though I agree with what Gabi's mom was saying about her trying to go to a school for a while, if she likes homeschooling and wants to really excel in cheerleading I think staying homeschooled would've been the best option for her :) It truly does give you an advantage over the other kids because you don't have the stress of homework and other things. When I was homeschooled it took me 3 hours to finish my work and then I was free to practice my sports or focus on my other hobbies.
Cheerleading is only for so long it's not a college sport (or a sport at all) her education is whats gunna get her somewhere and actually being in contact with all different people .. You gotta get out of your little bubble eventually

***** Cheerleading is very much a sport, and you can get college scholarships for it even if they aren't very popular at many schools yet. Like others have said, you can cheer for professional football teams in the NFL, and there are plenty of opportunities to open your own gym or teach cheer, long after you graduate. Gabi has already started teaching at a gym near her hometown in Florida and being in school had no good or bad influence on that choice.
noelle 〈3 While I do agree that certain aspects of cheerleading could open up other opportunities, and yes it most definitely is a sport, I would do a little research before you suggest NFL cheerleading as a career path. Cheerleading for a professional sport is not going to pay your bills for the next 30 or so years. In fact, most of the professional organizations require cheerleaders to either maintain a full time job or be enrolled as a full time student (or some variation of both) to remain on the team. Most are only compensated a small amount of money for games, but they are not paid to BE an NFL cheerleader. Not to mention that all practices and events are mandatory so it's a major time commitment in itself. And while different organizations may vary in terms of "benefits" such as hair and makeup or access to the gym, and promotional opportunities (the swimsuit calender, traveling all over the world to perform for armed services, etc, etc) these are geared torward representing the team, giving back to the community and charity work. Not to say that it couldn't potentially open the door to other career opportunities somewhere along the way, but wanting to pursue becoming an NFL cheerleader is not going to substain you. Many people HAVE to work a job they may not necessarily enjoy in order to provide for their family or carry health or life insurance, not to mention job security because like it or not it does come with a particular physical appearance expectation on top of various other talents or qualities desired to produce the best picture of the team and organization.
Anyhow, my point is, I don't think she is quite intending that cheerleading is not a sport or does not have any sort of potentially successful outcome, but i can tell you that pure physical talent and passion for the sport is not going to give you a successful and fulfilled life without something else to fall back on, such as education. Even pro football players only have a limited window of opportunity and that money doesnt last forever. I've seen very few pro football players make a successfull lasting career out of other fields within the organization, and i dont think we will see any NFL cheerleaders retiring at 60 and living comfortably anytime soon. Unless of course they marry a football player who was smart enough to invest his money while he had lots of it ;)
I dont mean to gripe or single anyone out, im just saying that as wonderful as cheerleading is (trust me, im a 26 year old mother with a 4 year old who never cheered once and even I have fallen in love with the sport, chances are for most it may not provide any further opportunities beyond college and with the way our country is right now, a good education is one of the most important things you could ever provide yourself because you really dont know where you will be in the next 10 or 15 years.

I would do anything to do homeschooling. I've done 13 years in public school I think that's enough. Can't I switch to homeschooling?
I was homeschooled from 6-9 grade and I really enjoy it, but I missed school. It was nice because there wasn't a set time to get up in the morning and I usually finished my classes by 11am. But for 10th grade I went back to school and I'm a junior now and in my first year of college (I go to a collegiate high school). Homeschooling definitely gave me an advantage to get ahead in my studies and my sports/hobbies too :) I recommend it if you could use the extra time to put in something else like a sport!

13 years in public school technically means you already graduated ..... So actually you only had 8 years of public school ..
***** The work being harder all depends on your teacher. My mother was a public school teacher before she decided to homeschool me and the work was not harder. The good thing about homeschooling is you can work as fast or as slow as the child needs it to be, seeing as you're the only one in your class. It's only easy to fall behind if you're lazy, I actually got ahead quite a bit while homeschooling for middle school. I've had no trouble making friends. I play on sports teams and do many activities that "normal" kids do and I didn't have a problem transitioning back into a regular high school atmosphere. And if your friends "drop" you because you're homeschooled than they aren't really your friends anyway. Of course, homeschooling isn't for everyone, but the answers why you said for people not to homeschool aren't very relevant.
***** I've done both. I took 3 online classes during my 9th grade year, as well as traditional bookwork type classes with my mother. I did well with both, and yes, the main reason I began homeschooling was because of my busy schedule doing more than one sport, music, etc. If someone starts homeschooling because they don't care enough to do their schoolwork than yeah it's definitely not going to work out lol. I actually enjoy online better, but I didn't have a problem with either.

I can actually relate to Gabi so much in this episode because for the past three years I was home schooled because I was doing a dance program but this year is my first year back to regular school and it was a large adjustment.

I used to be homeschooled for 2-3 years then this year I went to actual school. My first day I hated it. Then now (2months later) I actually like it. I have.more friends then I did when I was homeschooled. Gabi just has to Ger used to it. After a month or so I bet she will like it
I loved being home schooled. went I transfered to public high school it was a nightmare. mean kids, confusing campus, more hw than I ever imagined. college is easier
I wanted to be homeschooled but I wasn't allowed and I was told that people who were homeschooled didn't get anywhere in life. (I didn't believe them) I was sent to the wrong high school and now I messed up in college and I'm dropping out so I'm happy you got the chance to be homeschooled. it's less pressure and you get better grades
+Shay Malcolm I'm sorry you had that experiance. I actually attended 3 different highschools because it was so hard for me to adapt. I just wasn't comfortable around so many people and no choice in the speed of my work.
Don't be! Its okay now because I'm trying to get a job and I'm gonna (hopefully), pay for my cheerleading myself

This is me everyday after summer break even though I've been going to school since Pre-school lmfaooo ;,).
I know how you feel Gabi. This is my freshman year in a new school every since I move, and I was scared to death but then after about two weeks everything was starting to feel comfortable and I made a lot of friends due to me showing how I really am in class. It really fun

I think it would be best for her to do a mixture of homeschooling and regular classes, a hybrid program. I did that three years in high school and it prepares you better for college. I'm not sure the laws in California but if she did like a certain number of classes at school then a few online courses, her days at school would be shorter. It enabled me my senior year to take only two classes a day that were electives. I would have graduated early but I wanted to stay with my friends.

I guess homeschooling is good in some cases. In Sweden that's not even an option. So don't take homeschooling for granted because not everyone can have it. And it's a shame Gabi left Smoed because they seem to get along so good! I love Smoed
