Yeah, it was definitely dull, was hoping for something way better. I love hearing you talk about everything x-men, cuz I know that you're a big fan, and are passionate about the x-men. So this is exactly what I'd expect you to say about this #1. Thanks for all the great content.
Agreed, there was nothing about that first issue that makes me hype to buy the next. But to be fair, i dont think theres anything they could have put out following krakoa that would have grabbed me.
Re: what the X-men 97 showrunner did was go online and say some very wack racist shit when people pointed out that making sunspot not black was racist and against the entire point of the character. He essentially landed on you can’t be black and Brazilian which is a common bigot opinion here..
I feel like McKay’s Avengers is having similar probs? McKay is an always good/sometimes great writer, especially of solo books, but Avengers and Xmen just so bland and low stakes. Marvel needed to give the big boy keys to Ewing over McKay and so we are stuck with competent blandness 😬
X-Men #1 was okay enough, I would say on par or better than the Fall of X era. MacKay has bought a lot of good will with his Moon Knight run, which is low key my favorite mainline book right now. I'll let him cook.
As i watch HOUSE oF DRAGONS S2 and The BOYS S4, even X-Men '97, i'M going to miss X-Men (KRAKOA era) , ❌-MEN RED, and iMMORTAL X-MEN , those X-BOOKS felt grown and dangerously sexy. The new X-Men #1 felt very kiddie to me.🤨 i'M DONE.
The art was some TRRRRRASH. But that's just my opinion and it's killed it for me. Beast looked like ass Cyclops looked like ass Juggs looked like ass Idk, aside from that I did like the references to Krakoa
This is the first issue of this new era, and so will be directly compared to the first issue of the previous era, Hickman's House of X 1. Then you throw in a scene of Wolverine nailed to an X that now draws a comparison to Claremont and Silvestri's classic Uncanny X-Men 251...you have now set the bar so high that there is no way this book will clear it, and it doesn't. Hickman's X-Men felt dangerous. Claremont's OG X-Men are classic. This book felt and looked silly. This is what forced the Krakoan Era to end quickly and haphazardly?? Wow. Brevoort mocking the previous editor and fans now looks the silliest of all. Long live Krakoa!! ✌️❤️😎
I appreciate the honest conversation and well educated review on the state of comics today

Mid is about right, hope it gets better. Great recommendations at the end

I dont love how action oriented McKay is, but it was fine? My main issue is with the QR code which is really dumb
Eagerly anticipating this review
I agree with Dave about this week's X-Men #1.

Now Dave is just picking on Little League baseball 😅 cause of Marvel
Didn’t Disney fire Beau over his OnlyFans?
Krakoa felt innovative in the beginning.
There was a feeling that things were fresh.
