You have to buy from sellers with 10k+ sales on TCG player; they’re scared to send cards completely trashed because they wanna keep a good rating. Even “damaged” from those sellers are typically pretty solid

Good binder pieces for the most part. I got my base set charizard for about $120 - it's pretty banged up, but it's nice to see in the binder.
agreed- unless you want to grade a card, if it's an expensive one i'm totally fine buying ones thats creased or scratched if it bumps hundreds of dollars off of the price. i've bought some really nice MP vintage cards off of tcgplayer that look very nice in my binder.
Back in grad school I picked up a base set ‘zard for 20 bucks (circa 2013). Got it graded and it’s a psa 5. I think it gives it charm!
Agreed. Plus if the damage is mostly on the back of the card, you won't even tell the difference. That's one way to get some rare-ish cards in your collection without breaking the bank lol
I agree. If i want a card for my collection I don't care if it's slightly damaged. I don' have the money to get anything graded. I have a lot of the base set with a few damaged but I'm happy I have them.
My fiance and I were going through her old cards and found a gold star mew in pretty great condition. The fact that it was still $200+ with that kind of damage is wild

I’ve been wondering what it would look like buying damaged cards from tcgplayer. I don’t wanna get a massive fold in the card and pay double digits for it.

I'm pretty much looking forward to you grading those cards. Mainly because I have the Neo Genesis Lugia (First Edition) in my collection, but because I've had it since I was about 7/8 years old, it's not in great shape anymore 🙁 but it's still way better looking than the one you received😅
I have that Umbreon and it came back as an 8. Was really hoping for a 9 😢
If you think it has potential for a 9 you can try resending it in or using another grading company 😄
These are the kind of cards I want to send in to grade. I collect what I like to call “well loved” cards and my dream is to have a collection of cards with grade 1s.

I’m pretty sure I used to own that shining gyarados. I bought a bunch of them as well as Magikarps in damage condition for $20 back in 2017.
I mean, PSA 1 cards are definitely collectible in their own right! PSA 2s on the other hand…
In the realm of looks 1’s are as rare as 10’s.
Any card can become a 1, not every card can be a 10. 1 collectors are weird asf
Tbh sometimes for me it doesn't matter the condition I love buying someone childhood cards brings so much character to them so much fun

I can understand the pain of having beat up cards but i feel like that’s what makes a card vintage and worth its value even if it’s not worth anything price wise. It just feels legit and it’s hard to keep super old cards in good condition anyway

This is how all my cards look from back in the day. Nothing like just throwing them in your backpack before riding the bus, no protection or anything

Hold onto that Shining Gyarados. The irony of the water damage might make it worth way more than you’d think.

I’ve thought about buying some of the damaged cards off of TCG because they are some of my favorites, but this really makes me reconsider.
That lugia is indeed…. Cooked, that child learned that metal in a microwave is indeed not a good idea.
Theyre relics at this point and i think it’s a great idea to buy these and give them a new lease of life. It’s nostalgic and takes me back so far, really good to see the old bangers! Cant wait for the drop on how they graded.

I do this for expensive cards on tcgplayer and they still look amazing in my binder!

Even though most of these cards were in really bad condition, it's still great to have such beautiful cards in your collection. Only the torn back of the card hurt me a lot.
I just dont understand why condition is SO important for pricing a card. I mean a swing from from $23 to $2300 just based on condition. There is something wrong about that. I love the character and toning of vintage coins. Heavily played cards have been well loved. 🤷♀️

I'd pay 96 dollars for that Charizard. It's still in pretty decent condition but I'm also the kind of person who finds that sort of condition nostalgic. It's like a card I could have had in my childhood. Always wanted one but never had one sadly.

I mean you definitely bought MP/DMG cards. You could’ve sorted by LP or NM and bought the cheapest and most expensive available to compare conditions and the video would’ve been more interesting (to me personally) Still a good video and a good idea

I have bought a couple older cards in rougher shape just to be able to have them in my personal collection
If I want to get some low quality cards, I just pull a box of Paldean Fates. Guarantee print line in every pack.
