Wow , I wish I have seen this video before I have made my first trade with NFP. I have no idea this could happen, I have incurred losses because of NFP. Lesson learned
I appreciate your informative video Rayner. If I might add a bit of my perspective, there are sometimes other market structures, in addition to the horizontal structure you mentioned, that can inform our trade decisions. For instance, in your March NFP chart example, there was a clear upward trendline which was largely respected by price, even after the news announcement. Following the initial wild price swing, I can see at least one good candle pattern buy signal, off trendline support. Just my 2 cents worth, and please keep up the good work! Thanks, Joe

I have something, I think.
I dont trade news based on the news outcome, I actually do a little bit of calculations and go both ways with a small total balance.
If I got 1k in total, I'm gonna make two 50$ accounts with high leverage and trade both ways. One of them is gonna get called at the first second of the new, and one of them is gonna go like 1.5k in profit. I do it on gold and only nfp news
CPI news can be another option tho but cpi news go both ways and calls both accounts, so I go only nfp news, 12 months 12 nfp news with a risk to reward of 1 to nearly 30
U could go with 10 tho so U take ur profit and if only 2 months go as planned u are in profit.

Great stuff Rayner! News trading is the algo's game. I've been trading for a few years and one of the first things I realized that massively helped my trading was that trading news is gambling. Unless you can develop a verifiable backtestable edge around news and data... Just leave it be!
If you still desperately want to trade the news then at least wait until after the data releases and then day trade price action patterns with an edge as a direction is confirmed by price. Don't just bet on which way the data might move the market. That's not trading
Try using 2 pending orders ( sell stop and buy stop)

Ignoring the first move is not always right..cos some move in one direction after the news release and reversal may take up to 2 days or so...except you meant just NFP.

What Rayner said is true, avoid the news is a lot better to keep our capital intact, i can say i've gained quite profitable results from news trading but generally it's not worth the risk and nowadays i'd prefer trading in normal situation.

Hey Rayner or anyone is there a way to reliably save your work/chart layouts in trading view? Need to be able to save about 20 charts or be able to view them somehow without them going missing every time I turn the computer off. I save them, name them etc but it's hit and miss whether they will be there next time the computer is turned on. Trading View say they don't know how to fix it so I just lose all my work - very frustrating. Anyone have advice or a work around?

You can try pending order buy stop and sell stop, if you use this method please also consider the slippage, because if price moving is very fast then your order has probability will be executed not at your price order. So if you are not familiar with culture of certain news release price movement better away from that moment, start trading again after several time after that's momen

Hi Rayner, first off great videos! With the most current NFP (July 6, 2019) the news was vastly different than the expected (224k vs 160k expectd) resulting in a surge in the USD. Does this aspect of the NFP change this strategy? Once again, your videos are greatly appreciated.

Hi Does this work all the time? Or is there a better strategy for example buy and sell at the same time before Nfp begins and set a 2 pip stop-loss for Gold, so if the the trade goes into the upward direction the sell Wil close but the Buy will cover the loss from the sell?

You are correct though. First move is usually the fakeout.
Market rigging is common, and that is the only reason why I hate forex, because it goes against my technical analysis, talk of spread widdening, price swing even before the news, sometimes news report are ignored, and market going against the news, e.t.c
Best way to trade the news is to stay out of the market and let things cool off. That's my opinion. All that manipulation is not worth the risk

Last months NFP on GU was a massive selloff , and before NFP i was short. NFP basically intensified the short. Doubt it may happen again. But i aint trading NFP this week. Too risky.
