I don't know what we see in this, but it is impossible to see an atom because of the length of the light wave To see any object, it must be illuminated by a beam of light, and the light must be reflected from its different parts and hit the retina of the eye. However, it is impossible to illuminate a specific atom due to the very way photons interact with an atom. Most of the photons will simply fly through the atom, and if any photon is reflected back into the eyepiece of the microscope, this will clearly not be enough. In general, the visible light used in optical microscopes has a wavelength of about 400-700 nanometers, while the size of an atom is about 0.1 nanometer, so illuminating an atom with it is simply pointless.

What I want to know is whats in the space in which they move around in? I imagine its the same 'space' we experience and can move around in. And if we cant find anything then it must be a creation of consciousness and the mind itself, since the space cant be 'nothing' -everything will get broken down into smaller bits and never 'disappear'- rather than existing without a mind present which then could mean we are living inside a mind. None of it makes any sense to me tho. How can something not have existed forever? It would take something to create something, logically. Which means the intelligence of our species is not equipped with any capability to even be able to comprehend what existence is limited when it comes to what we call life and everything in it is. And no, it certainly is not a 'god'.

I think a lot of confusion in science is definitional. What is "seeing" at this level? And even, what is an "atom"? The colored bits are way too close to be nuclei, so we might be seeing the electron cloud, or weirder, the diffraction of the incoming electrons by each individual nucleus. Is that "seeing an atom?" Not sure, but love thinking about it! Fun comment!
