RIP....a true legend. Keith Richards once said of him "More than a producer, he knows how to inspire the artist’s soul. Like Phil Spector, he has a gift of not only hearing sounds that come from nowhere else, but also translating those sounds to the musicians. Scratch is a shaman."
@@DouglasF68 We all can't be saints.....although it seemed Scratch had no problems with Babylon also.... Post 80's Perry output is highly questionable.(to put it politely).
*@ReddFlag* Richards could use some inspiration himself. With a few exceptions, he too lost it after 1980 and for decades struts his stuff in a highly profitable nostalgia act.
Thank you for the music and memories Mr Perry. A totally unique maverick for music and hope for a peaceful world. Your spirit, heart and music lives on ❤️❤️
this guy smoked the heaviest spliff wrapped in leaves filled with the wackiest of tobbacy called the lambs bread that the rasta's gave him for using his studio. this led to him discovering dub and working out a brand new genre to explore he just kept getting higher and higher in his studio with just a 4 track and tapes he kept re-using and laying down layers of herb onto the magnetic particles of the tape. literally and figuratively. sometimes the band would see him drinking the tape cleaning fluid and mixing out their music into dub. listen to the drums beat at 10:20 to hear that wacky drum beat and your transported there into the middle of a group of rasta's passing round a chalice burning thick with pungent purple smoke. an old granddad starts dancing around and clapping and you're sat there just grinning and smiling because your tripping off your head while all this is happenning
You should write a novel or screenplay about the Black Ark scene. You describe it very vividly. Number 5 Cardiff Crescent.is the Mecca of Roots Rasta Reggae-Dub.
