It looks like you guys hit the ground running, and are going strong! So good to watch you BLOOM on your flower farm. I started selling flowers at market 10 yrs. ago..in retirement...for a hobby business. I order plugs, etc. on a smaller scale than most. At my age 67..I'm feeling all the yrs. I now know that getting in more staples, bones,..first, would've benefited me more now. Having those peonies ,and a few kinds of perennials, will go a long ways down the road. I'm z5 Indiana...trying to find ways to work smarter/not harder! The social media is a big fail for me...don't know that much about it, just a little. But, even though I'm not selling at your scale...would still love to sell all that I grow. Sooo, maybe I should get some help with that! Glad I found your farm!

Love your farm and all of the information you are sharing, we too are in our 2nd year here in Ohio and it's an amazing adventure for our multi-generational flower farm. We love the time spent with our children and grandchildren. Can you tell me what model tractor you have along with additional accessories, that is our next step we have only been using tillers and all by hand but know we need some equipment to improve our process.

Nice! We are a John Deere 1025r with tiller, bucket, pallet forks, rake, and mower deck. Eric did a review video of all the specs he got :)

Going into my 4th year of flower farming & I feel like I finally have my "staples" fugured out. I'm so excited to see hpw next year works out with the chpices Ive made. I'm DRASTICALLY reducing the # of crops & the vareities of those crops next year. I started out wanting to griw "all the ptetty things" like most of us do.... but i also wanted to try things for myself. What griws well for one person isnt going to grow well for me... what sells well for one person may not sell well for me... & so my first 3 years I was growing abour 100 different crops/varieties. Next year, its going to be about 30 varieties from spring-fall. I want to have different ingredients to work with each season, and a variety of colors each week, so that not every bouquet is very similar week after week, but I dont need to have THAT much of a variety- i was only growing that many to find out what grows well, what is easy to grow (doesnt take a ton of labor to plant, water, prune, etc.) easy to harvest, easy to process (doesnt take forever to harvest & then its a super small ingredient like gomphrena), & can charge enough that I make a profit for it... Some things are more labor intensive (like lisianthus, or ranunculus) but they are able to be sold for a higher amoubt so its worth it. Something like a bachelor button or gomphrena, isnt..
I'm also increasing the space I'm growing in, & will hopefully have a high tunnel up by next fall. (I'm applying for the NRCS High tunnel cost share program)

Great comment, I'm 2 years behind you, but you're describing my plan. Now trying out a lot of different crops and varieties: in person they can look very different that you expected from a picture. Plants and colours I thought i would not like, I really loved when i saw them in real life and visa versa. After that I'm going to simplyfy.

So happy I ran across your channel. I am also a homeschool mom and my husband works from home. We recently bought and built a house on some acreage in Eastern NC (Zone 8a) and I grow about a 1/4 acre of a cut flower garden, mostly to enjoy and give away but hoping someday when I’m more successful (and can keep out pesky deer-who are 1,000 procut sunflowers this summer) will try my hand at market bouquets:) you guys are precious; wanted to say 🙋🏼‍♀️👋🏻

I'd love to hear more about the marketing you do for your farm, especially if you use a "formula" for posting on social media.

Do you worry about larkspur being toxic with your kiddos? Do you have dogs and cats that need to be kept away from it? Do you grow any other toxic plants like foxglove? I'm wondering how to manage that issue.

I don’t worry about toxic plants at all. It’s not really as big of a deal as it’s been made out to be. It’s not like I’m growing hemlock or something.
