Henry always rearrange the songs he covered, and always give a fresh look to the song. The keyboard part at the beginning can be seen as an intro, then the “Pain” and the verse1 parts you can hear that he was recording it, making a harmony for his voices.

Henry is born in Canada with Taiwanese/HongKong parents. Since young he has achieved level 10 in both piano and violin, winning multiple competitions. He is a man with overflowing talent! He is fluent in English, Mandarin, Korean and even some Cantonese, he can sing, play violin, piano, guitar, drums and even dance! You can see him combine these talents through his loop station performances or even performances where he dances while playing the violin. Not only is this man talented, but he is also a very funny and caring person. My favourite is his RUclips series called “Henry Together” on his RUclips channel where he performs with child prodigy musicians. He teaches them to be free with music through freestyling and also give them the confidence to perform in front of a crowd. There you can see how great he is as a teacher and performer ❤❤

What you just saw with Henry's cover of "Believer" by Imagine Dragons was a performance he created using a Loop Station. So he records the different sounds and instruments individually like you saw him doing at the beginning of the performance, and then when he plays them all together he is able to create the song. Henry is really famous for his Loop Station performances. His first loop station remix was of the Korean song "Bounce" by Cho Yong-Pil in 2014, ruclips.net/video/Lt0XEZyedZM/видео.html, and ever since then he has dozens of original songs, remixed/mashups and covers of songs he has created using a loop station.
This performance was specifically created for the concert in Melbourne, Australia, but he has actually performed this song many times now, and each time he does it's a new experience because he never does anything the same way twice.
He owns his own independent music production company, so he does all the recording, remastering, rearranging and production, etc. himself. Everything you see and hear is 100% Henry. Normally with smaller scale performances you will see Henry recording all the sounds with the loop station in real time. However, for concert and TV performances, he often has someone sitting off stage pushing the buttons to record the sounds he is playing -- if you notice, when he was about to hit the metal barrel, he pointed to someone off stage to signal them to be ready to push the button -- or he pre-records the backing track and just demonstrates what he did to make the sounds at the beginning of the performance.
If you like this performance, you should watch another version of "Believer" that Henry did last year for the Korean reality show Fly to the Dance. Henry was the music producer and a dancer on the program where famous Kpop choreographers and dancers spent a couple of weeks in the U.S. busking with dance performances on the streets of New York and L.A. There are two "Believer" performances on the show, one in New York and one in L.A. If you want to see another aspect of Henry's production genius, check out some of the episodes of Fly To The Dance on 100DNAcers YT channel.
Henry is a member of the legendary Kpop boy group Super Junior-M, as well as a solo artist. He is considered a music genius. He was classically trained in violin and piano since the age of 6, and he had plans to go to college to study classical music. But the year he graduated high school, he auditioned for the largest and most well-known Korean entertainment company, SM Entertainment, when they held auditions in Canada, and he impressed them so much with his violin dance routine that they signed him right away. (After joining SM and debuting with SJM, he did end up going to college. He got a full-ride scholarship to Berklee School of Music in New York and he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in music.)
He was one of the Kpop industry's very first foreign/non-Korean artists, and he only trained for about a year before he debuted in Super Junior -- and that was only because he needed to learn Korean and become more proficient in Mandarin. He debuted in Korea in 2008, so he has been a famous musician, artist, entertainer, producer, actor, model, etc. for more than 15 years now.
He is currently 34, and he is the youngest member of Super Junior -- he debuted when he was 18 years old. And, not only is he a musician, but he is also known as a really good dancer and for the fact that he can dance while singing and playing the violin all at the same time. He is one of the first and only musicians to combine choreography while playing the violin. In high school he was the leader of the dance club and the orchestra, which is where he got the idea to combine his two passions. Henry's main dance style is popping and locking. As a member of Super Junior, Henry started out as one of the group's main dancers.
He is Chinese/Taiwanese-Canadian -- his dad is from Hong Kong, his mom is from Taiwan and he was born and raised in Canada -- and he can play almost any instrument. He really is a music genius.
Henry speaks 4 languages fluently -- English, Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese -- and he speaks numerous other languages moderately well. He works really hard to speak to fans in their native language, so he has learned a lot of languages over the past 15 years.
Super Junior-M was the Mandarin Chinese sub-unit of Super Junior, which created songs in Mandarin and promoted in China. This group was one of the very first Kpop groups, made up of both Korean and Chinese members, to become famous in China. Which is one reason why Henry is such a big deal internationally because he is a world-famous artist who has learned to meld many different cultures together, endearing himself to people around the world.
And to see where Henry really made his performance of "Believer" famous, you have to see the version he did on the Korean TV show Begin Again. His Melbourne stage doesn't even come close to what he can really do.
Begin Again, featured singer/songwriter Kpop artists who teamed up to form a group and they spent several weeks busking all over Europe and Korea. In Begin Again, not only does the group sing the songs live, but several of the members are also musicians so they perform the music live as well. In Begin Again you will see Suhyun from the Kpop duo AKMU perform with Henry and several other famous Kpop solo musicians and singers as part of a group called The Family Band. This group was so popular that The Family Band actually did 2 seasons of the show. And the best part, in the first 2 seasons they busked on the streets all across Ireland, England, Switzerland, Portugal and Hungary, etc., so the people they performed for don't speak Korean, but they always fall in love with The Family Band's performances. And, as you just saw, Suhyun and Henry also participated in a third season in 2021 when they traveled around Korea to perform with some of their Family Band members, as well as other well-known Kpop musicians and artists. This show showcases real life busking performances with some of the best musicians and singers in the Kpop industry.
Check out Henry's performances of "Youngblood," "Dance Monkey + Attention," "Faded," etc. You can find all the clips on the BeginAgain RUclips Channel: ruclips.net/channel/UC8WoHUeN-eLynnLKGkwajYQsearch?query=Henry.
You should also hear some of his original songs. Look up a performance that he did of his original songs "Moonlight" and "It's You" in China as part of a special collaboration with Bose and Porsche. You can find the video on Henry Lau's official RUclips channel, ruclips.net/video/CzmuuiyOVzg/видео.html. You will really get to see how he can literally turn anything into music.
And, to see what type of music and entertainment master Henry really is, you should watch a clip from a special project/ variety show that Henry did in collaboration with SM Entertainment and Mystic Entertainment in 2017, called "The Snowball Project," ruclips.net/video/vAyAD2R1Apc/видео.html. Henry was challenged to play multiple instruments from around the world, which he had never seen or played before. And, as you will see, within minutes Henry was able to pick up the instrument, figure out how to play the notes and play a song on the spot. He can also play any song or tune on almost any instrument after hearing only a few notes.
Henry debuted as a solo artist in 2013 while under SM Entertainment and, even before becoming a solo artist, he gained a reputation for being an accomplished music producer. He has written, composed and produced all his own solo work, as well as numerous songs for other artists, including several Super Junior songs, songs for other Kpop groups and artists, such as EXO's "The Eve," and Korean- and Chinese-drama and movie OSTs, etc.
His most recent original song "Summer Sky" just came out a few months ago, his song "Real Love Still Exists" was released in March and his previous song "Moonlight" came out in January. Also listen to his song "Radio" from his album Journey, which came out in 2020. He has a Korean version, Mandarin version and an English version of "Radio." But what you really need to see is a live performance of "Radio." Not only is he a musician, but he is a true performer, so all his live performances are designed to engage and entertain the audiences, and he never performs a song the same way twice. To hear the song in Mandarin, check out this performance from a Chinese award show, ruclips.net/video/KbdBxPBmXKM/видео.html; or to hear Henry's one-man-band solo version live on a Korean music program check out, ruclips.net/video/Gto4SxuNrwY/видео.html; or to see a 4 cello and rock guitar version check out, ruclips.net/video/oYl9KKMqGZc/видео.html; or for an acoustic version check out, ruclips.net/video/Ek7Z8_bwntk/видео.html. (Like I said, no two performances are ever the same.)
Now as an independent solo artist -- after leaving SM in 2018 -- Henry has launched his own RUclips Channel and he releases regular content and has become one of the most popular Kpop artists on RUclips.
To really see his musical genius, watch the RUclips show that Henry produces called Henry Together where he invites child prodigy musicians and dancers on his show to showcase their talent and to mentor them. On his show he spotlights amazing young artists while creating really cool collaboration performances on the spot with these children. He is a big inspiration to many people and lots of artists and musicians look up to him.
