Some of you are so mean. As a student, I'm excited by his teaching method. After one lesson, I feel like I've accomplished something and want to continue learning this beautiful instrument. Esteban clearly loves the classical guitar and I appreciate these lessons. Thank you.

I went from not being able to play due to one of my fingers was locked in a bent position. I had an operation 2 weeks ago to fix my finger.I the next day went out and bought a guitar and googled Esteban for beginners. I love his music and method of teaching. He is very easily understood and does not show off his skills while he is teaching that I noticed with most of these teachers on the internet. He gave me confidence that I can learn to play. I find that following what he teaches is better than the physical therapy that I have to go through to get full use of the finger I had fixed. love his methods and you know no matter what people post on the internet that there has to be a hand full of people saying negative things.. do not give up and practice practice practice good luck to you

You are wrong. Instead of feeling sorry for Esteban because some people are “mean” you should think about the people who spent the money on guitars branded “Esteban” after seeing it on home shopping network and then getting poorly built guitars. If Esteban gave his name and advertised these guitars then he is at least partly responsible.

@@StopFear you are absolutely right. This man concocted an idea in his head that he could sell these guitars too old ladies and people who don't know how to play & any real musician would have known right away 60 seconds into the infomercial that these things are a piece of crap and he always plays a decent guitar in his instructional videos which is a dead giveaway to let you know that Esteban guitars suck. Is he can't even play the own guitars he's trying to Peddle on the Home Shopping Network then he shouldn't playing a different one in his instructional videos

This teacher has an extraordinary method: chords and passing-notes. So, you start from the CHORDS and then combine with the melody. This is absolutely great, you don´t need any notes and you remember every piece of music. First harmonic structure und THEN melody. Great and very motivating - thank you, Esteban!!

Public opinion and his endorsed mass produced guitars aside, he’s fairly likable to watch and listen to. He really is pretty good regardless of people’s opinion of his character.

    • @hatedevine
      @hatedevine 4 года назад +2

I actually agree. He even has a great narration voice. How hard would it be for him to say that this is an introductory guitar/ budget price, as you proceed you may want to look into more etc? But, end of the day, its not his problem you bought it. I never saw a claim that it was excellent. But it was def misrepresented by additional effects :-/

I remamber buying this guitar. While stringing it the small e string poped and took my left eye out..After recovering and receiving my glass eye i continued to practice on this guitat. While trying to learn the song Gloria the bridge ripped off and flew into my forehead.I ended up getting 6 stitches.I was a little skeptical of the guitar at this point but i continued to play it in good faith.Sure enough while i was carring the guitar down a flight of stairs the fret board came loose and slipped off of the guitar right in front of my feet..I tumbeled down the stairs and crashed into a closet door and broke my collar bone and split my left ear right opened..I dont know if i should pick this guitar up again or not.

I used to think he was a nut job. He is actually a great communicator and not a bad guitarist. You don't need to be the best player in the world to be a great teacher. That is a fallacy.
You can tell he is classically trained, but later developed his own style. His technique is quite nice. He has sort of a hybrid style; something between classical, flamenco, and rock. Thus, his play posture. If his nails were shorter, his plucking would be cleaner. But that's just his style. Can't judge tone quality with amplifier, but that's trivial at the level he is teaching. Once you get to the point were you worry about that, you are passed his videos.
His guitars may not be great, but you don't need a great guitar to learn.
I am quite surprised! Excellent Esteban.

I feel I have to add a comment about this video in the hopes of helping others who play fingerstyle. Also I see comments below about what I'm going to mention. Most very excellent fingerstylists do not bend their right hand when playing. I've learned that the right hand/wrist should be more or less straight in line with the arm... so that if a string was attached to your right hand playing fingers, the string would almost stretch out in a straight line to your elbow. This will prevent pain in your wrist. It is simply finding the most comfortable position with your right hand and not having the wrist bent when playing.
I just had a thought about something else and want to mention it. One teacher I'm learning fingerstyle from, and he has plenty of free fingerstyle training is Classical Guitar Shed. I did not create this comment though for the site's promotion but just to help others in the process of learning Fingerstyle guitar.

Most classical guitarists' nails aren't longer than 2 centimetres long. And they have to be shaped curved, polished, and buffed to warm tone and make it so they don't catch onto the string with sharp or jagged ends.

When you play String 5,4.3.2 Can you make a suggestion as to how to practice this pattern. Or just a lot of practice on my own?Hedley

For Malaguena , why do I need to alternate my 2nd and 3rd finger on the top string? Alternating between thumb and first for me is much easier and faster.

from wikipedia : The extent of the connection between Segovia and Esteban, however, is heavily disputed. Although Esteban did meet Segovia, Esteban is not mentioned in any biography of Segovia, and Esteban never received the public acknowledgment Segovia gave students such as John Williams and Eliot Fisk. Segovia autographed one of his books for Esteban in 1978 with a flattering message, but Segovia is known to have signed hundreds or thousands of such messages.

The guy is a great guitarist. I will give him that. It’s his guitars that are sold that are not so great. I’ve had a couple so it’s from personal experience that I know they are not the best made and keeping them in tune can be a challenge all that aside the man is a great guitarist

Will continue to work with this. Great training. On my Guitar, every note in the 1st fret sharped is a very blunt or dull sound. Will time on my fingers help this?Hedley

He's good, but definitely not _the_ best. That title would go to Mr. Segovia himself.

Esteban haters need to realize only one thing about mr Esteban- HE DID NOT LEARN OVERNIGHT! As he said in this video he has been dedicated to the guitar his entire life which means he's been playing ever since he was a kid. Not saying you should love him or his music and what he does, but don't judge someone you don't know. To me, he is the best player and teacher in the whole world. Some will not agree, but they're entitled to their own feelings and opinions.

Guys, can anyone please tell me which guitar Estaban is using in this video? I've seen this series of videos and to my untrained ears the nylon stringed guitar used in them sounds absolutely wonderful. Id like to get something like this but am downright stupid when it comes to getting a good nylon stringed guitar.

Why did you pick the best person on the planet? I first viewed this person on a tv variety show during the 80's. I have never seen anyone any better. If I was anyone, I wouldn't try.
