I've been a student of the cello for several years now and this is the best advice I've heard in a long time. I've been struggling with just these exact issues. Great advice and I really appreciate it. Thanks for posting!
Have you read kummer's treatise on cello? The magic wand for me was playing without a spike. Had back pain and shoulder tension for years and it was fixed overnight. Basically kummer suggested learning for 1 or 2 years without a spike to learn how to hold the instrument properly then when the student is ready to move on add the spike for stability and projection It puts the knees below the hips and allows the hips to externally rotate into a relaxes position. Puts the contact point a bit lower for the arms to drape down to. Also tilts the fingerboard a few degrees away from the head
After you find the best length, use your arm to measure it to get it the same every time. Ie; elbow against the bottom to tip of endpin at some place on your hand like a certain knuckle on a particular finger.
How do you keep your bow shoulder relaxed and your fingers on the fingerboard relaxed. I can't get through a one page piece because my shoulder and back will be killing me. I played a long time ago as a beginner but haven't played in a few years and have always had that pr9blem
Get a theraband and do exercises to improve your back last. We all are so hunched over from our devices that our chest muscles are short and tight, back long and weak. Stand up against a wall and push your shoulders back to touch the wall. You'll feel it. Good luck with it.
Sorry about that I see now, didn't know that was happening thanks for letting me know. If you tell me which ones you were looking for I will post the links here.
No!!! It’s never about practicing a certain position, it’s about _finfing_ the best position for you, and there are only 3 rules: #1: best position for a straight bow arm #2: needs to be comfortable #3: Cello should be able to vibrate as freely as possible. Beyond that, any position is fair game. It’s about experimenting (including chair height), never about practicing a specific position. I, for one, found my perfect position only after my luthier removed a peg that was in the way.

I am a beginner and I will try this... thanks 🙏
I always had problems with the angle until I refrained from the endpin and now I am totally fine just holding the cello with my knees and lower legs.
golden tip: start with the angle thanks !!
Will you please make a version of this for women, both big and small breasted?
Be pretty difficult for him considering the absence of big honkin' knockers

Very clear explanation, thank you.
You are welcome!

That should say back lats. Latissimus muscles are the ones along the spine and also work your shoulder blade levators.
Thank you!

غريبه جدا انا كنت أفكر في نفس الشي ء ... فقط تحدثت الي نفسي😮
You'd be hella "frustrated" about how I'm embracing my cello, my-guy.
Cello is not a woman friendly instrument iv found
I think, in a lot of cases, aside from boobs....body length, arm s and legs.....so many shapes and sizes to consider .
Get a 3/4 or 7/8 size.
