And has been professionally trained to abide the will of his employer. Not as a slave, but as a business duty. Butler characters are just interesting like that.

I discovered this movie as a kid because my mom used to go to a Block Buster and rent movies for me and this was one of them. And I am SO GLAD she did because if she hadn’t I never would’ve grown up with this masterpiece. It’s truly a hidden gem of my childhood.

Back then, movies had individualist them. Today, it's about ideas like social justice and feminism. Those ideas take away from the true hero's journey and make it difficult to identify with the characters. This is the reason so many people nowadays just stick with the older movies, and the ones grew up with them because that's precisely what those kinds of movies did for them. They were heartfelt, funny, for all the ages, full of value, and are consistently good every time you watch them. While one of the purposes was the company to make money, they still wanted to deliver a quality product to the viewers, and it feels like they've lost that. We took for granted 💔 how well animated movies in the 1990s and 2000s were, outside the animation being revolutionary for its time, the writing was also well written that even being 30. I can still watch movies like Ice Age (2002) and actually enjoy them. Yes, and a lot have avoided those powerful, morally complex stories in favor of something safer. Sure, the effects look amazing, but the heart isn't there anymore, The Toy Story series is an exception because all fours are capable of rivaling each other. Who says that Disney movies are just for kids? Adults can watch it as well, They have some life lessons which apply to both kids and adults. For example, what do we learn from The Little Mermaid, from my perspective, that movie learned us that never sell yourself to an evil person, also if the deal is bad, don't take it. What about Cinderella? It taught us that dreams can come true and that no matter with circumstances, they are always good and kind. What about Pocahontas? Love conquer all, and one must find their own way, other movies that have powerful messages, and excellent music. Nowadays, everything must be political ,which is sad and heartbreaking 💔. I definitely want to bring it back for my dream job in the future. Movies today are made to appeal to as wide an audience as possible and make as much money as possible. I also find alot of movies nowadays try to be comedy's with over the top cringey dialogue and try way to hard to be funny, Not everybody wants to be laughing throughout the entirety of the movie (Or so they expect us to be laughing).It seriously is heartbreaking to see all that hard work and time people put into a film only for it to be completely thrown out near the end because studio executives lost faith in it. I can't imagine how frustrating that is. We don't want or need a joke every two seconds. Just give us a movie where the serious scenes don't get ruined by an out of place joke. That's not how movies should be made. Technology is supposed to simplify our lives and should not mean taking responsibilities away from us altogether. Box Office movies nowadays wouldn't even hold a candle even to a classic cartoon like This (The Land Before Time) in terms of depth and feel. Once you watch them, they make you feel like you just wasted your time leading up to it and the huge money of it, too. This movie is way better than I thought I’d be. Darla Dimple is one of the best animated villains I’ve seen because she’s just so unique being a spoiled brat with a titan sized butler at her disposal

Honestly, even though Darla is supposed to be the "villain", I feel like her anger in this instance was justified. Danny was simply an extra with ONE LINE: "meow". He was explained this before they even began, yet for some reason he took it upon himself to basically try to steal the spotlight and make the musical number ALL ABOUT HIM. He was stealing screen time from Darla, from the other animals, etc. That's not okay. He's lucky he only got off with a warning and wasn't fired at this time.
THANK YOU! I feel this gets glossed over a lot, but Danny is a bit of a selfish jerk, and it shines through brightest in this scene. He WAS stealing the spotlight, and ruined the take, which resulted in time lost from getting everyone and everything back into position. Shit like that doesn’t fly in movie-making. You’ve got a part, play it, don’t go rogue or try to make it all about you; a lot of these people just wanna make it through the day without hassle.
Her speaking voice was Ashley Polden who was in Guiding Light and Ghost World. But, her singing voice was Lindsey Ridgeway who played pretty much the same character in Ruthless! the musical, except with less animals and more murdering children. If you like Darla, you'd enjoy that. (Useless voice actor knowledge put to use!)
A good butler takes care of the home. A great butler seems like they never have to. But, the best of them handle the home, care for the needs of their clients, and you only ever notice them if you specifically asked for them or have need of their services, that they have already anticipated well ahead of time, that they have painstakingly accounted for down to the second. Max, is one of the finest butlers, a true gentleman's gentleman, first and foremost.

Am I the only one who noticed and is intrigued by the exit at the end? ...Damn. I literally replayed it like 4 times. Whose the best butler? Alfred? Sebastian? Max? Max won me over with that exit.
I think the gag is that he's so efficient as a butler, as well as how he moves with little to no wasted motion, that he sort of becomes this entity it makes me wonder: who *is* max? where did he come from? how did he get there? why did he become a butler? how did he work for darla? how is he so loyal to her? and yes, how did he vanish in a puff of smoke through the hole in the wall he made?
Technically he's a valet (rhymes with "mallet"), not a butler. A butler is the overseer of an entire staff of servants, while a valet personally tends to the needs of a single person.
I don't know what's funnier about Max, the overly dramatic music that plays when he enters and leaves, or the fact that his teeth never move when he speaks.
Ironically, it's suggested that he raised her after the "disappearance" of her parents and he is deeply loyal despite her obvious use of him for personal gain. Max essentially works for her because he wants to.
Alveta Goodridge Makes you wonder what Darla would do after Max dies. How would she intimidate people then? Would she have the same effect on others without Max? How would people who got pushed by her do after max is gone.
I love how no one pays any attention to Max smashing a hole through a wall and nearly killing people, but they gasp and are shocked when he steps on the rubber ducky and breaks it.
Oh my goodness. This reminds me of the first time I saw this movie with friends. The moment Max comes stomping into the room and the camera zooms in on his face, everyone else shouted "MMAAAAXX!" (like a demented goat) and it startled me. Turns out he was really quite freaking cool.
I showed this to my bf for the first time...we replayed his exit like 20 times laughing our asses off. We are fairly certain Darla summons him from an entirely different dimension.

Darla and Steele are similar since both crave for fame. Steele was vicious and goes as far as inadvertently letting the children die of illness while Darla has a murderous hatred towards Danny only.
What is Max? He's as big as a mountain and yet his disappearing skills rivals that of Batman. He can break through walls without any effort and yet is gentle enough to fix Darla's halo without breaking it.
Darla Dimple is one of my favorite villains. She's cute, but dangerous just like Cozy Glow and Baby Doll plus Big and Loud is now one of my favorite villain songs ever! Darla Dimple may be hated but she's got my respect.👍
This movie was just pure visual fun. Very expressive, very dynamic in its animation, memorable character designs, and a nice message about discrimination in Hollywood in the 1930s. A solid movie when I was a kid and still pretty great now Also MAX THE BUTLER was amazing

I can still watch movies like Ice Age (2002) and actually enjoy them. Yes, and a lot have avoided those powerful, morally complex stories in favor of something safer. Sure, the effects look amazing, but the heart isn't there anymore, The Toy Story series is an exception because all fours are capable of rivaling each other. Who says that Disney movies are just for kids? Adults can watch it as well, They have some life lessons which apply to both kids and adults. For example, what do we learn from The Little Mermaid, from my perspective, that movie learned us that never sell yourself to an evil person, also if the deal is bad, don't take it. What about Cinderella? It taught us that dreams can come true and that no matter with circumstances, they are always good and kind. What about Pocahontas? Love conquer all, and one must find their own way, other movies that have powerful messages, and excellent music. Nowadays, everything must be political ,which is sad and heartbreaking 💔. I definitely want to bring it back for my dream job in the future. Movies today are made to appeal to as wide an audience as possible and make as much money as possible. Back in the day, while profit and marketability were important, producers and directors had more freedom to be creative and make movies that were original, innovative, and memorable. People think it's all nostalgia goggles and being unfair to modern movies, but no. It's all the value and quality of the movies back then, the delivery, lessons, everything all that is gone nowadays. Technology creates the story these days, not the soul of the writer. Like how back in the old good days, we didn't over-analyze anything. We just sat back and enjoyed stuff. 😉 Animated movies are not like what they once were. The effort, the details, and the passion just aren't there anymore in modern animated movies, really sad. Movies nowadays are made by algorithms, not people. Today's cartoons don't have as many good, fun, and exciting masterpieces as the old cartoons. Too political... everything has to have "a message"... and the sense of pure fun is missing. I also find alot of movies nowadays try to be comedy's with over the top cringey dialogue and try way to hard to be funny, Not everybody wants to be laughing throughout the entirety of the movie (Or so they expect us to be laughing).It seriously is heartbreaking to see all that hard work and time people put into a film only for it to be completely thrown out near the end because studio executives lost faith in it. I can't imagine how frustrating that is. We don't want or need a joke every two seconds. Just give us a movie where the serious scenes don't get ruined by an out of place joke. That's not how movies should be made. Technology is supposed to simplify our lives and should not mean taking responsibilities away from us altogether. Box Office movies nowadays wouldn't even hold a candle even to a classic cartoon like This (The Land Before Time) in terms of depth and feel. Those big hits feel like they are just watched because of their name brand, not because of the quality itself at all. Once you watch them, they make you feel like you just wasted your time leading up to it and the huge money of it, too. That's why I feel like a winner when I don't watch the movies of this decade or even the past decade.

I love how the emotion of this scene turns on a dime. It's all fun and games until Max shows up, and then it's suddenly like a whole different movie.
Honestly, even though Darla is supposed to be the "villain", I feel like her anger in this instance was justified. Danny was simply an extra with ONE LINE: "meow". He was explained this before they even began, yet for some reason he took it upon himself to basically try to steal the spotlight and make the musical number ALL ABOUT HIM. He was stealing screen time from Darla, from the other animals, etc. That's not okay. He's lucky he only got off with a warning and wasn't fired at this time.
She probably would've gotten away with it if she didn't scream "I hate animals!"

He WAS stealing the spotlight, and ruined the take, which resulted in time lost from getting everyone and everything back into position. Shit like that doesn’t fly in movie-making. You’ve got a part, play it, don’t go rogue or try to make it all about you; a lot of these people just wanna make it through the day without hassle.

Darla, on the other hand, is at a different league, in that she will verbally abuse you, enslave your words, force you to do everything she wants you to do at the very moment she wants it, call her bodyguard in to pummel you at the end of her temper tantrum, and cause everyone in the immediate area to sweat gallons just hoping this isn't the day she'll kill everyone.
Darla and Steele are similar since both crave for fame. Steele was vicious and goes as far as inadvertently letting the children die of illness while Darla has a murderous hatred towards Danny only.
What is Max? He's as big as a mountain and yet his disappearing skills rivals that of Batman. He can break through walls without any effort and yet is gentle enough to fix Darla's halo without breaking it.
