Maybe the reason why you haven't found a book that has the same High quality goodness as Miss Peregrine's is because YOU'RE still in the process of writing it ;) (Also the Six of Crows duology are my favourite books so I'm glad that you said it's almost there)
I love this video content. I can somehow relate to you Jesse!! "Does it REALLY matter? NO" "Does ito matter to ME? YES" PS. I really love your humor in your videos!!
When you’re wanting to read a book that you’ve already read the first chapter or so. Just look at it like you’re rereading a favorite book (like Miss Peregrines). This is just what I do. Hope it helps
If your behind try listening to more audiobooks cuz you can do stuff while you're listening to the audiobook... if it's not obvious I love audiobooks 😍💙
"Ugh! Didn't stick!"😂😂 The book that recently stuck for me was The Midwife's Apprentice by Karen Cushman, talk about a book you can fall in love with! It was amazing.
Omg I'm the exact same! I start reading books to feel them out and when I don't feel like continuing reading them I stop. But then when I do feel like reading them it's just so annoying having to reread what I've already read! Also, I feel the same when I don't know what to read., sometimes I feel like fantasy but then sci-fi, but then maybe even mystery/thriller AND I JUST DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO
I go into books with no one else’s opinion, and I usually have no bias opinion form over one before I read. I accept and love everything in the books and it’s great
Listening to music that goes with the aesthetic of the book really inspires me to read (this works well for books in a series) as it reminds how much you loved the series and gets you excited to read it Also, I get inspired to buy books because of booktubers (most of my books have been bought because of this)
Zery Sarwar I have a MASSIVE wishlist on overdrive. When it’s time to pick a new book, I use the random number generator on google and read whatever number pops up. If I don’t like it, I delete it from my list and re-do the number process.
@@samarie04 that is a really good idea but with my jar what I do is I sort into more than tbr as well I put in re reads and library books so I can see from the like label before I open it up
I always check the Goodreads score before buying a book and if it's low I often get influenced. Well I don't do it with classics but the world already gave it 5 stars if it's a classic lol
A theory on why you haven't found anything like Miss Peregrine's: My favorite books are generally ones that impacted my life somehow, by either presenting a new concept, or showing something a different way, or generally doing something that in a small way helped me grow as a person. As I grow older though, I have already learned a lot of the lessons or concepts talked about in books - especially YA novels. I still enjoy them, but they don't hold the same meaning or excitement they once did. I'm just not in the head space of a teen anymore. Now that I am a parent, I sometimes find myself gushing over parenting books, or novels containing people with babies and toddlers. I am deep in the baby stages with my kids, and that is what I relate to and learn from at this time in my life.
Audio books have helped me with this exact problem and it passed enough for me to pick a book I know I'd like and then from there I was able to go back to my normal mood reader ways.
I have that same issue😂 (when you read the first part of a book then set it aside and not wanting to read it after because of not wanting to re-read the first part)
I am definitely influenced by reviews/average ratings and I sometimes wish I wasn't, because any negative review for a book will automatically make me go in with lower expectations/wariness
My favourite middle grade books are: (its a series) Murder Most Unladylike Arsenic for tea First class murder Jolly foul play Mistletoe and murder A spoonful of murder Death in the spotlight Cream buns and crime (not a case) They are amazing to read definitely recommend them
I don't normally read reviews on like goodreads.I usually get all my book recommendations on bookstagram and then I'll add it to my tbr list on goodreads and red the synopsis sometimes I don't even read that though a lot of the times it's just because of the cover and it's all over bookstagram that I want to read it. lol. So i never really read reviews much before picking up a book. Usually I just know it's something i want to read.
I can't watch the rest of this video without telling you! YOU SHOULD READ THE PRINCESS BRIDE! It has sooo many different genre's represented overall and it is my all time favorite book! And i wouldn't want to be the person who let you miss out on something so magnificent!
I read slowly, very slowly... But that's OK! What I do think is important is consistency! I read EVERY DAY! At least one chapter a day, but I DO read! Also, as I read one book (like, let's say, a fantasy) I listen to an audiobook of a classic... I'm currently reading "The Well of Ascension" and am listening to "Moby Dick" (just finished Oliver Twist yesterday)
Fablehaven is a fantastic series! While I have yet to read Miss Peregrines so I’m not certain they match up in their individual writing styles, but either way I think you would really love it @jessethereader
I love watching these videos. They show the fun side of reading. The amount of people who say “there are more entertaining things you could do than read”, it honestly makes me feel better that I like spending my nights reading 😁
It can be hard to get out of a book slump so I feel you there. I think I've failed the Goodreads challenge once and I was a bit distraught about it too. Personally I read a couple of books at once to be able to get through more books and meet my challenges although if one grabs me it will be the one I read the most until it's done. I normally check the reviews on Goodreads if a book isn't clicking for me but other than that decide on my own. I hope you get out of your book slump soon!!
1:33 tbh i am actually reading around 8 books a month, but this month because i have a lot of test at schopl i didn't really had the time to read, I am so sad, but at least in my goodreads challenge i am 8 books ahead
Honestly I hardly have any hardbacks (it's a single figure)... most are farely big, the Everless Duology is a bit smaller in size and And the Ocean Was Our Sky is more square than the other books. Apart from that, all my books are paperback and I have no idea how people aford so many hardbacks.
Whenever I'm in a weird reading mood and I'm having trouble choosing a new book I read something I liked before that is pretty short. And then I let those ooey-gooey happy book feelings follow me into a new book. I find that the happiness is usually enough to get me through the tough part of getting interested in something new.
You talking about being behind schedule *I just laugh and sip my tea because I'm 16 books ahead of schedule*. I've read 34/50 books so far in 5 months. (It doesn't feel like I'm reading too fast so that's good)
I totally get the book funk thing. Recently I've wanted to read but I've been having a hard time getting into my YA books. At this point I've read all the adult I have and dont know where to go from here. It would probably help if I knew the genre I wanted but I'm lost there as well. 🤷♀️
Have you read red rising, or the illuminae trilogy... both are sci fi adult but are written really well. I enjoyed both. The illuminae are set up like files in a mystery case which is super cool and fun and interesting to read so if you're looking for something different I highly recommend.
because of school, the only time that i get the chance to read is my one and half-ish hour commute to and from college. but i have gotten through a couple of books each month of this year because of that. currently reading 'History is all you left me' by Adam Silvera and am loving it!
Recently if I’ve been struggling with reading I’ve picked up a graphic novel, middle grade or old favorite. They are all super quick reads for me so it makes me feel accomplished that I’m reading without getting consumed in a long book that might keep/put me in a slump. Also once I start reading/finish a quick book I usually feel more motivated to read so it’s a win win.
If I'm iffy on a book I go look at the reviews. If I want to talk myself into reading the book, I look at the positive and if I don't I go for the opposite. Yeah, I also go through reading funks (it SUUUUUUCKS) but thankfully I'm reading surprisely well this month (yay) And also Yes! When books aren't the same size! I have this book series The Iron Fey (with its spin off) and the last book is. Smaller. Than. The. REST! UGH!!! I know the feeling bro
Omg I know how you’re feeling! I’m excited to read, but it’s like I get overexcited and just stare at my books 😅 I noticed when I’m in these moods fluffy contemporaries are usually my go to; also book read-a-longs from a few book boxes (FairyLoot, OwlCrate, Illumicrate) have helped motivate me to read and finish a book

Honestly, I have the same problem! I picked up this book that I KNOW I'll love but then I stopped after 50 pages and picked up another book and I've done that with 3 books already this month zjwkthaodjfbekoajrbf 🙃
I always write every to-be-read book on little pieces of post it tabs or notes and i fold them up and put them into a raffle to determine which book to read next. With series, I always just put the next in line in to the raffle so that i don't end up skipping ahead. It really works well, especially if i stick to the book that i pick up to read. Plus, it also frees up some of the books that have been on my shelf for a long while. :)
You just described exactly what I'm going through rn with my reading goal!! I'm in such a funk. I start a book then switch, then switch, then switch..... Ugh 😭😭😣
I like to dive in a book with an open mind. I regularly borrow books from the library that I haven't heard about at all or just a bit. Sometimes it makes me find some gems that deserve way much love 😊
I usually wait looking at reviews until I've read the book, to avoid spoiler 😅 Also, I love what you're doing with you're videos these days, it makes me smile 😊😊
I usually just dive right into a book without any knowledge besides the brief book description (if I even read it sometimes I don't) It gets me more excited and I often end up reading out of my normal genre but accident, so it helps me expand more! That's normally how I do it unless it's a book I've been anticipating by a loved author
You should do videos like these again, I really enjoyed them. I enjoy your content and just the vibes you spread. Infact You're my favorite booktuber. I also understand your feeling when you said no book has been able hit you in the feels like MPHFPC. Same thing is happening to me since I've read six of crows xD
Oh my gosh I've been remodeling my bookshelf recently and I've been having that same first world problem. My copy of Skyward is slightly taller then my other tall hardcovers, and it drives me crazy!
Just need to give myself a break! I just finished this full week of exams ugh😫... On monday I have my last two exams: art and economics... stressed about both! I hope I have good results. After my exams I want to start TDA, because I didn't have time to read at all with al this studying! Love these talks and love your vids Jesse!❤🤗
I've been reading Map of Days by Ransom Riggs. I was reading All For One by Melissa De La Cruz but some ish happened and I had to put it down. I'm half way through Kings Cage and still haven't picked it back up. Oh and I'm half way through The Diviners.
Thank you! No one from my reading friends didn't understand why I watch and read reviews after the book. Some times when book is unknown for me I just saw who read it and how many points give it. This kind of helps me to pick it up... I don't even read the synapses. I watched book hauls or other videos listen what is book about and put it in my mine... Then I forget the synapses but remember the book and kind of go blind. But after the reading is done I search for the opinions and it's so much fun to find out what is thinking the other person in front of you nodding when you agree 😂
dude i get the struggle with being behind on my goodreads goal. i’ve been super busy lately so i’m like 4 books behind now. i need a 24 hour readathon hecka soon so that i can catch up on my goodreads goal😂
I kinda do a bit of both. I usually just go into a bookshop and just see if anything intrigues me but if I hear good things about a book or my friend suggests it cause she knows what I like, I’ll give it a try
I have the same problem when it comes to reading. Often you do remember the books you just need a reminder so skimming helps so you can get the idea and still be able to understand
oof i relate so much to not wanting to read a book when you've already read the first part of it!! it happens to me so much, and often i attempt to get through books again and again, getting just a tiny bit beyond the last time i gave up. i've read the first quarter of the once and future king so many times, and i'm going to try and give it another go soon! amazing video! :D
I love figuring out how I feel about a book on my own. It is always the best thing to fall in love with a book other people do not love. I actually don’t really read the synopsis of books so I am surprised by the story.
i’m not gonna lie i read that as “talking to books in bed”
Same 😆
Daisy Harwood So did I
Same 😂
I read “taking books in bed”
No brainers unite
*watches Jesse sneeze*
*says out loud* Bless you.
*my mom replies* I didn’t sneeze.

Kotlc Camp Jupiter I’m reading Sox of Crows right now. It’s interesting so far. Honestly
Yep, so wierd reading 5 star reviews of books you disliked. I guess everyone's view is equally valid. But obviously mine is the *most* (equally) valid
your humour always gets me, you make me laugh so much 😂💙
I love this video content. I can somehow relate to you Jesse!!

You should make a tbr jar to help you find books to read.
Never thought of that! Super cool idea.

Why did I imagine books talking? 😂 Tbh this was just as funny as that would have been
I can literally watch you talking about books all day! U should make more videos like these!
I always check the Goodreads score before buying a book and if it's low I often get influenced. Well I don't do it with classics but the world already gave it 5 stars if it's a classic lol
I don't read reviews for classics because if it's rated low it's probably rated low because people don't understand the time period.
This mood is SOO relatable right now!!!

I totally get the hardcover size thing, they don't fit on most of my bookshelves so I have one bigger shelf to put those 5 books
I am so happy that he’s spoiling us with all these uploads!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

If you need something quick to read and to get your reading goal up, middle grade comics is always a good choice. Or get something you read as a kid.
Honestly I hardly have any hardbacks (it's a single figure)... most are farely big, the Everless Duology is a bit smaller in size and And the Ocean Was Our Sky is more square than the other books.

I don't actively search out book reviews but I do watch them when they pop up on booktube.
Arrowood and The Weight of Blood by Laura McHugh are great books and they're quick reads. I highly recommend them! She's also from Missouri too.

I recently read the illuminae trilogy and loved them. I'll have to give red rising a try. Thanks! 😁
I look at the book rating when I am really struggling in choosing my next read. What you said in the beginning is soooo relatable!!!!!
That coffee toast made me smile really wide for some reason... so thanks! haha
First...always a pleasure to see your video in notifications.
because of school, the only time that i get the chance to read is my one and half-ish hour commute to and from college. but i have gotten through a couple of books each month of this year because of that. currently reading 'History is all you left me' by Adam Silvera and am loving it!

And also Yes! When books aren't the same size! I have this book series The Iron Fey (with its spin off) and the last book is. Smaller. Than. The. REST! UGH!!! I know the feeling bro
i've been in a reading funk as well but i didn't know it was a thing so thank you for giving a name to this very annoying state of book reading
I hope you’ll do more of these videos this one was really fun!!
I try to avoid reviews shortly before I pick up a book so I can make my own opinion
Please do another one of these videos I love them they are hilarious!!
I usually read books based on friends and booktubers recommendations, but it’s a really good feeling to discover a book that I’ve heard nothing about and read it with no preconceived notions
There is a third six of crows coming out. Not for a long while but I'm still SO excited! And there is a grisha series coming out on Netflix, not sure how I feel about that, it will NEVER live up to the books.
I am having a flump at the moment but I didn’t know what to call it. Love you jesse ❤️
“Screw setting goodreads reading goals” Lmaoooo 😂😂😂 love that 🖤
I love these types of videos! You should do longer ones too
For thrillers try the Stillhouse lake series. I've listened to the first two books on audio. The third came out earlier this year. I highly recommend giving it a try. I can only speak for the audio book version though. Fantastic!
My absolute favorite author is Lois McMaster Bujold and her Vorkisigan series. You can really start any where in the series, because there is a timeline of each event w/out spoilers. The books have a plot and are very well constructed. My favorite two books in the series is Ethan of Athos and Memory. Especially Memory, for me, because it really emphasizes that our actions DO have consequences, whether positive or negative.
Same!!! I've had such a bad reading month...
Honestly, I have the same problem! I picked up this book that I KNOW I'll love but then I stopped after 50 pages and picked up another book and I've done that with 3 books already this month zjwkthaodjfbekoajrbf 🙃
I’ve been feeling the same way with fining a book I LOVE . Caraval ruined all other books for me lol
You better read Kingdom of Ash, Jesse. I am waiting for your KOA book review. And also you will finally find that book that WOWs you
I always write every to-be-read book on little pieces of post it tabs or notes and i fold them up and put them into a raffle to determine which book to read next. I usually wait looking at reviews until I've read the book, to avoid spoiler 😅

That's normally how I do it unless it's a book I've been anticipating by a loved author

Oh my gosh I've been remodeling my bookshelf recently and I've been having that same first world problem. My copy of Skyward is slightly taller then my other tall hardcovers, and it drives me crazy!
I don't usually read/watch reviews for books I am planning to read. Hahaha! Sometimes, I don't even read the synopsis. "Surprise me, Book!"
I don't even need notifications, I was just rewatching all of your videos lol
Just need to give myself a break! I just finished this full week of exams ugh😫... On monday I have my last two exams: art and economics... stressed about both! I hope I have good results. After my exams I want to start TDA, because I didn't have time to read at all with al this studying! Love these talks and love your vids Jesse!❤🤗
Good luck with exams! You'll be fine!))

Shema Indigo Happy Birthday 🥳
Goodreads should send a cute congratulations sticker if you reach your year reading goal
Hahahaha I thought his shirt said “no thanks I’m God”😂😂
I Love how much you can talk about books in just 10 minutes!!
Thank you! No one from my reading friends didn't understand why I watch and read reviews after the book. Some times when book is unknown for me I just saw who read it and how many points give it. Hi Jesse. I usually don't read reviews before I read a book; if the plot and summary interests me enough to want to read it, I go for it.
I kinda do a bit of both. I usually just go into a bookshop and just see if anything intrigues me but if I hear good things about a book or my friend suggests it cause she knows what I like, I’ll give it a try
Terry Goodkind Wizards first rule, this series is so good I've reread the whole series 8 time's. It's my go to if I can't pick a book to read 😁
I have the same problem when it comes to reading. Often you do remember the books you just need a reminder so skimming helps so you can get the idea and still be able to understand
Everyone goes through a reading funk at least once so don't presher your self ♥️♥️❣️❣️❤️❤️💜💙💙💜💙💙
If you haven't read it yet, try Flowers for Algernon. Best book I've read in years. Absolute 5 stars
Jesse PLEASE read The Way of Kings, it's easily my favourite fantasy book ever and it will blow you away
Jesse, read The Escape by C.L.Taylor. It’s a mystery that has me confused and feeling dumb in the best way!
oof i relate so much to not wanting to read a book when you've already read the first part of it!! it happens to me so much, and often i attempt to get through books again and again, getting just a tiny bit beyond the last time i gave up. i've read the first quarter of the once and future king so many times, and i'm going to try and give it another go soon! amazing video! :D
"Unless something tragic happens" BOI DON'T YOU EVEN GO THERE! YOU''RE FREAKING IMMORTAL BC I SAID SO! *CRIES*
again, but better is taller than my other contemporaries and i just stare at it like WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS
One thing I always do is reading five star reviews on goodreads of the book I'm about to read next.
I love figuring out how I feel about a book on my own. It is always the best thing to fall in love with a book other people do not love. I actually don’t really read the synopsis of books so I am surprised by the story.
you are uploading so often and I love it!!
