I never criticise red cards as player protection is paramount. However, I'll make an exception here and say that was wrong unless I didn't see something the ref did.
Apart from that m8 leigh was brilliant m8,I live in leigh and I was chuffed they won but under the wrong circumstances, I wish them all the best for the play off spots
Not shove his shoulder in when it's clear his teammate is making a tackle that will cause a drop in height. Chest out, arm around the shoulder and down over his chest, use his weight to press him down. Tackle discipline that will stop him from recklessly chipping away at a fellow player's future health.
There was a similar head contact in the Rabbitohs vs. Knights game last week in the NRL (forceful, no mitigation), but that was a sin bin. Why is this a red card?
Super League and the NRL are officiated differently. Some seasons they even have different rules all together. I believe it was only 4 years ago that it was legal to tackle an attacking player in the air in the NRL (not any more of course) whereas that hasn't been legal in the English game for a long time.
@@cokeysezbin7899 I mean, if Super League says that's a red card, fair enough, really. It was forceful, and there wasn't any mitigation. As soon as there's head contact, he's in trouble.
@@TheQovas Unfortunately I don't think I can link to the article on the NRL website without my comment getting auto-deleted, but tackling an attacking player in the air was banned for the 2020 NRL season. Here is the quote from the article: "The act of tackling a player in mid-air will be banned whether the player initiating contact is the attacking player or the defending player, in line with the current international laws of the game." The article is called "NRL announces rule changes for scrums, challenge system, trainers, 20/40 kick" if you wish to search for it yourself. It was legal to tackle an attacking player before this change. However, tackling a defending player in the air has been illegal for a long time in the NRL so perhaps that is what you were thinking?
Yes, the referees and disciplinary officials are a joke, however players are now staying down and rubbing their heads if there has been any contact around the head or face,ll. This then leads to the video referee getting involved and invariably leads to a sin binning of a red card. I suspect this is due to the coaches insisting the players stay down after any head contact. The number of intentional high tackles this season can be counted on one hand and you would still have fingers to spare, if you take the physicality out of rugby league, the game will die, and you might as well play tick and pass.
Physicality to the head will kill the game off. Super league will be sued into oblivion for knowingly allowing players to be recklessly tackled just to put them off the game in a dirty play, neurological conditions will settle in, and legal action would be taken. Keep your arms down, keep your shoulders below heads, and learn some fucking tackling discipline. This is how it has to be for the game to survive. With players being faster and stronger and fitter than ever, only a fool would want the physicality that would rob the future generations of super league.
Guys you got yo understand the super league nearly didn't have a league because no one was willing to insure due to head knocks. So that's why it was a red. Yes the red is soft for what everyone is used too but I'd rather that be a red than not having super league
Yup. Its soft but its a red. I said this from last season that attacking players will stay down if they feel they have been hit in the head with a shoulder. They know it will be slowed down and looked at. witch makes it seems worse.
Turned it off after the red, how the fuck do you expect to get new fans by giving out cards like that? Love Sam burgesses post match interview now we need more people to do same coaches and players.
Have the super league be sued into oblivion because of neurological illnesses from head trauma, then? The players are far stronger and fitter than ever before, leniency on head trauma will kill the whole league off from top to bottom. Lower your shoulder, or you're off. For the sake of the survival of the game, it's as simple as that.
@@yrknutzreek give over mate, even the players are complaining about how soft it is. If your happy with how it’s going be my guest but the game won’t last very long being played like this. Make every player wear head protection and bring back the big hits. WE WANT OUR GAME BACK!!!
The players should show some tackling discipline then, legal battles will kill the game off if head trauma is written off as no big deal in the face of current understanding of the risks and the outcomes. In conjunction with players being fitter, faster and stronger than ever, it's a big blend of a 'goodbye super league' smoothie. The game has to adapt.

How anybody thinks that isn’t a red card is beyond me. His shoulder hits him square in the face. That’s not a new rule this year - that’s never been allowed.
If you watched Rob Burrows career you would have seen just how regularly he got severe head knocks and anybody who says that it didn't massively contribute to his health is just being ignorant. Karl Webb died at the start of the year, Wally Lewis is struggling, Ray Price is struggling, Ward had to retire in his 20's from Leeds because of concussion and that's just a handful of former players that are having issues with their brain. That's why Vaughn was sent off and that's why the rules have changed. Fans just need to accept that it's not '95 anymore. If changes weren't made there was a very real chance that nobody would insure RL and the sport would have finished. I'm not prepared to watch men get brain damage anymore for the sake of my entertainment when something can be done to reduce the chances of them getting it, and if you are then there's something wrong with you, especially for the money they're on over here they're not footballers.
It's just when you look at that it doesn't look like too much compared to other tackles I've seen and players are starting to milk it more for that reason, but I do agree players need to be protected, Morgan Gannon has missed basically two whole seasons due to concussions and he's still a young lad
