SONY: 177 Countries Can't "Manage Democracy" Anymore
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 май 2024
- In a bold move about 12 hours ago, SONY decided it was going to ban an absurd number of steam accounts from being able to purchase Helldivers 2 in the wake of requiring everyone playing Helldivers 2 to have a PSN account. Due to which, now 177 countries that were at one time able to purchase and play Helldivers 2, won't be able to manage democracy anymore.

Arrowhead is actively telling people to refund and review bomb the game in order to "make your voices heard" by SONY. Maybe with enough pressure, yall can swing this thing the other way. Who knows.
Tried to. Was denied :/
I surely hope so. I was still on the fence about buying Helldivers when all this started (pretty expensive for me). If the divers win this fight, I promise I will don the cape. When I can afford it.
Happy to oblige.
This is how you get to a human on steam btw.

They signed the contracts and took the money. Now they're playing the blame game and getting caught in the lies.

Well, it looks like we have our answer as to what Sony is gonna do. What's their slogan, again? Oh, that's right. "For the players". Well, just the ones they can force onto their console plantation.
For the shareholders.
Why? They lost PSN accounts from Stellar Blade controversy. And now they thought after taking an arrow into the knee, we might take an arrow into the head.
you know you are a gamer when you are taking an old ass skyrim meme and making it into an analogy
Well.... Arrow to the knee means getting married and Sony is trying to get your info so... Close enough.
I honestly believe the rug pulling from the unsupported countries is a move on steams part to avoid the income legal actions that would have likely hit them from selling a game that would be unplayable in the countries.
I dont think steam is concerned about legal implications, theyre a marketplace not the studio making the decisions. steam maintains its spot at the very top of the gaming hierarchy because they care more about the gamers than devs since the devs are forced to use them and the gamers have a choice of what marketplace to buy games from. Steam simply stepping in to do the right thing to protect their customers from corpo greed as it looks good for them and it also keeps a bunch of people from being angry at them for purchasing a game they cant play. easy win for steam and steam as its a win/win for them they look good and they arnt having to deal with angry customers, steam has a history of farming those easy w's
If account linking was always going to be mandatory, then why was the game ever even allowed to be sold in those countries in the first place? That's the biggest question I've taken away from this whole situation. And I don't think AH should be let off the hook so easily on this, either. Why did the devs go to the trouble of localizing the game in all of those different languages, if it would end up being not available for purchase in those places, if linking was intended to be mandatory? The reality of the situation is that AH HAD TO HAVE KNOWN that forced account linking was coming and didn't push back nearly as hard as they should have against Sony, and also did their players dirty by making linking "optional" and not telling us it wasn't going to stay optional. I really hope that players in affected regions can sue Sony over this, because Sony straight up defrauded them.
My guess when asked, Sony told them it was going to be Optional at the start of production then as the game entered polishing there was a change of heart. However because the game already had localization within the text file Sony decided to allow PSN to be optional because their numbers were still above a certain level. Then FF7R did bad, followed by the Stellarblade causing a bunch of accounts to be terminated. This is going to slam them in the nuts hard.
Onepeg, new youtube subscriber, thank you for balanced view of this Sony issue. Also a note for comments, Sony forcing censorship on Stellar Blade and a censoring of an artbook associated with a famous japan visual novel Tsukihime. Sometimes Sony just seems to want to watch the gamer world burn to send a message, that they just don't care for their customers.
Babe wake up! Another video gaming shenanigans video from Onepeg!
Onepeg, your news always keep me up to date. Thanks for that, from Tarkov to Helldivers, I really appreciate it all laid out like this :) ❤
I'm thinking that the delisting was likely actioned by Valve not by Sony. Sony wants players to simply violate their own TOS and make an account in another country. Valve is not going to sell a product somewhere it can't legally be used. They're also probably doing it to decrease the number of future refund requests
Correct. Daddy gaben making a OG call, you don't let your competition make you look bad when you have full control to stop it. Steam has done this before (in a good way)
yep because banks will take theirs for transactions in both ways so steam would take the hit.
According to the CM at Arrowhead the request was from Sony.
@@OnepegI see thanks for the clarification
I think that old FAQ snapshot can be used to request refund under "fault advertisement"
my theory was, Sony got butthurt when ppl cancelling their psn after stellar blade drama and made stupid move by forcing ppl to use their psn service to boost their numbers back as proof to investors that they made money with their shitty service.
we know both stellar blade and helldiver 2 being suck thorn in black rock and all bullshit woke corporate since the very beginning as their stand against shitty modern practice, and so they made sure to screw all their sale or future fans by do something that fans didn't like as reminders for any game dev that try to challenge their/ any (sony) reign
being woke has nothing to do with being pro-corporationism. Being woke is being against that, actually.
They can stay butthurt, even thought my country supports making PSN account together i with my cousin consider refunding the game. It was optional until they updated it to be required for some games heck they dont even want it for other games but for Helldivers 2 and soon to be available Ghost of Tsushima.
@@mathiasrrybasuch poor innocent soul that didnt realize how much western corporate been control by select few company.
If the store says something is required but then DOESN’T require it to play and go over the 2 hour limit, then it isn’t fucking required.
As simple as that.
I 100% agree
At the very least, the linking could have been like "if you want cross play" or something... but this is Somy we're talking about, the company who bitched for 2 years over Call of Duty going to Microsoft... not any other game, just CoD
Even then, the PS store states that PSN is optional for PC users. So if in doubt why would you heed the words in Steam when the publisher themselves says it's NOT needed and then you boot up the game and... It's not needed?
Had my refund request denied about 7 times now.. Reason satiated is playtime is over 2 hours.
That's the automated reply. Keep trying until you get it reviewed manually.
@@Charlie_Nice because many other users have reported they are receiving refunds even when they have gone over the 2 hour refund period.
There is a confirmed refund by someone who had above 90 hours of playtime, so keep trying
@@Charlie_Nice irrelevant
@@Charlie_Nice The way the game was marketed was that having a PSN account was optional. They changed the terms of the deal after it was already done. Every time a company gets away with scummy shit like this, we move closer to a world where companies can do whatever they want with no repercussions. It shouldn't be tolerated.
(Sony's track record of securing user data is also less than stellar to say the least)
Think about that: if game blocked in your country, even if you bought it and played a ton of hours, you can't make a review...
Yes you absolutely can, I did just today
@@gumikin8706 I said “blocked”. Most likely, you are not in blocked region. In blocked region you can’t visit a page of the game on store. Yeah, that’s not about 177 regions. Those were removed from access to buy, not completely blocked. Who knows what they gonna do next.

@@gumikin8706 most likely they changed the country for the steam account. Currently i can't visit a store page of the game - "This product is not available in your region". And when I try to post a review from a page in the game library, an error occurs. May be there is smth else with this error but idk.
Sorry for wall of text... I just kept typing.
I read up that the game launched with a version of the pop-up that did not have the option to skip and sat there like that for about 2 hours (Might have been from Spitz). Spitz has stated that the version that had the skip button, was removed after about 36 hours. Based on what Spitz stated, this means that everybody after this point that entered into the game, never got to see that pop-up.
Steamdb shows 144k players on Steam about 36 hours after release. Due to server issues, it is unknown as to how many people even got to see that pop-up. They could have been on an infinite loading screen which was attached to the intro animation (This bug persisted for quite awhile after release. It was there when I was gifted the game).
Checking my gift history, I was gifted the game on Feb 16th. Helldivers 2 released on Feb 8th. This was long after the 36 hour time frame Spitz stated. I never saw that pop-up. Either way, they removed the pop-up from the game. This, to me, would imply that requirement had been removed. People say "For server reasons", but I don't agree with that if they changed it from "Not skippable" to "Skippable" because of the reasons, but they also decided to remove it altogether. This is when people should be like "Sony got rid of the requirement!"... So, even if people happened to see the "Requires PSN account" box on Steam, which is at the bottom of the controller support, which is below the purchase options, that should have been seen as a potential mistake, especially when the game could be purchased in countries that did not have PSN.
This is a very weird situation all around. Helldivers 2 devs are in a very bad position right now, and I feel for them.
One must not forget the fact that the PSN store, Sony themselves, says it's optional to have a PSN account playing HD2 on PC.
As a Tarkov refugee - this is just too much
not helldivers too, no no no no no god please no NOOOOOO
I am pretty certain, it was not required to be connected to playstation day one either. I could remember wrong, but I played the game, day one. And I got the choice to connect to playstation. So, it was not required day one.
Sony earnings call is May 24th, pre market opening.
Hopefully this can get sorted out, sad to see such a good game go down this path
i genuinely feel bad for the game development, they made an absolutely killer of a game, very beautiful title, but sony had to fuck all of that up. @@alexis1451 For several countries they can't make an account without buying a PS5.... So no not free for everyone. only 69 countries even have access to making PSN accounts. Please don't just parrot everyone and do a small amount of research.
@@Demortra A PSN account is completely free and you don't have to buy a PS5 to get one.
Some countries do not have PSN support AT ALL (and buying a PS5 would not change that, assuming you could even find one for sale). A workaround is for people from those countries to create a PSN account using the nearest "supported" country to their own, and Sony have allowed that to happen for the last 18 years.
If someone does not wish to do that then they cannot play Helldivers 2 (or any game that requires a PSN account) and in those cases should be eligible for a refund (because the game should never have gone on sale in those regions since they are not supported by PSN).
This is the best video I've seen so far on the topic. Brought in all the vital info, no fluff and to the point
That's not even the full list. None of the EU member states that do not have access to PSN are listed in that. None of the Batlics are listed. So I could still buy HellDivers today, but not be able to create a PSN account. Then again "crossing the border" easily means you can't really enforce it reasonably. As for refunds, mine got rejected
also a number of US territories, UK territories, Parts of the Kingdom of Denmark, Monaco... are places where you can't get a PSN account.
Calling all Helldivers - Lets not Dive for a week and see what they do. If all players can stop playing for a week, they will see we mean business.
How do they make hiring decisions at Sony? Is it all nepo-babies or something? How do they constantly make enraging and embarrassing decisions like this?
Arrowhead knew this was going to be required, they are not blameless either, the CEO even admits it’s partly on him as well
Spitz being unaware of the number of countries that cannot access the PSN has nothing to do with him being disgusting to community members. If you've ever worked customer service you'd know what Spitz did is was gross and unacceptable.

Ive actually never heard of any game on steam requiring a third party account. Does Steam even allow this?
yep, there is plenty of them. They even have a feature that shows it on a game's page in a shop that it requires 3rd party account. But label being there and enforcing the law are 2 different things that's why ppl are mad.
Some do war thunder swtor come to mind for me
@@angrypakosThe PSN requirement has been there from the beginning. It was in the TOS the day the game launched. Go look at the pre-launch and launch trailers for the game. The PSN requirement stipulation is at the end of every trailer. It's been there since the beginning. When Helldivers 2 started having server issues, Arrowhead had to temporarily disable the PSN requirement to get their servers fixed. They announced back in February that there would be a 3 month grace period. So all this talk about the law and people wanting to sue is a joke. Any lawsuits would be laughed out of a courtroom because it's a segment of the fanbase that can't read and pay attention.
@@angrypakos You'd think knowingly selling a game in countries which do not support a feature you plan to switch on and brick their accounts would be some kind of illegal. Especially when that feature is demonstrably not required to play the game, so now it can be seen as a deliberate action to invalidate a purchase after the fact.
@@DWOMTNot so. Even the fucking HD2 PSN store said it was optional on PC. So the publisher says it's not required, you boot up the game and nothing is required... Why would you question Sony's own words? Its not as clear cut as you'd like to think.

It's not about "access to PSN". Sony are requiring this in order to bring in their AI monitoring of in game speech. All the platforms intend to link up and share their ban lists to enable a blanket banning of anyone banned on one game.
