Great list! I love seeing your favorites of the year. Black River Orchard was also my favorite new dark book released in 2023. It was just slightly ahead The Reformatory by Tananarive Due and How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix. I actually read enough new dark book releases this year to make a top ten.
Chlorine is arriving at my home via the US Postal service from Book Outlet tomorrow. I got the last copy. With this glowing review, it's moved up the top of my TBR list.
Thank you! You've sold me on Black River Orchard and Becoming the Boogeyman. I think I'll gove Chlorine a try, too. Love your recommendations, always so detailed 🧡 Happy Holidays! ✨
I've been looking forward to this video for a while! I love your taste, and while I can't keep up with your reading speed, my goodreads want to read features many of the books you suggest! Though, I've been wondering, have you ever read Chuck Palahniuk? He's most known for Fight Club, but a lot of his other stuff sounds super up your alley. Haunted and Invisible Monsters come to mind!
I still need to read Becoming the Boogeyman, Chlorine, and Maeve Fly. This is a great list, Rachel. You have fantastic taste. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and a very happy new year!
Maeve Fly: I loved Maeve and Kate. Black River Orchard: Just finished it today. Bucks County is 80miles from me and close to my home is a Museum dedicated to the Lenape tribes. Hawk Mountain by Conner Habib is the most disturbing book I read this year by a long shot. Tender Is The Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica , The Bee Sting by Paul Murray, The First Bad Man by Miranda July , Paradais by Fernanda Melchor and Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton ....a book that gives new meaning to "Off The Rails".
I enjoyed Delicate Condition, twists & turns, as you said, and I worried about the main character throughout. I also wondered if she was imagining things, so it kept me guessing. IVF sounds like a very difficult process to go through. I'm glad it worked out for you. You have a great channel. I hope it continues to grow! Vivian
Really interested in becoming the boogeyman!! Sounds awesome! Love that your faves are different than other booktubers and aren’t all mainstream books😊 My favorite dark books were tender is the flesh and any man!🖤
Black River Orchard is my favourite read of this year! Invasive is the next book of Wendigs you should read if you’re looking for another of his (although Zeroes is first in the duology they’re more stand alone).
hey Madame TheShadesofOrange , I'm an avid follower of your channel and truly appreciate the insights you share about various books. Recently, I've become deeply interested the theme: the concept of 'creating our own god,' especially in relation to its impact on society. would you by chance have read some related concepts you could recommend ?
Your lists are always unique and once again you have delivered 🎃
Oh thanks!
I read Chlorine on your recommendation earlier in the year and it was great🧜
So glad it met your expectation
I value your channel so much! Great list
Aw thanks
I really enjoyed hearing about these books. Have added both Death of a Bookseller and Deliver Me to my tbr!
I hope you enjoy them

Black River Orchard HAS to be made into a movie! It’s made for it!
Love Hendrix Grady, that was a really good book!
I didn't realize you loved Reformatory so much
I definitely need to catch up with Chuck, and I still have to read Wayward as well.
I'm hoping to read The Wanderers this coming year
Great list! We have many favorites in common. Black River Orchard was amazing!! It's a chonky book but I flew through it. 🍏🍎🍏🍎🍏

No I still need to read his books!
Thank you for this video. You gave me some dark fiction recommendations, Aloha
Oh yay
I just finished reading Chlorine and I loved it! Well deserving of the hype, wish it was in the Goodreads Choice Awards
Agreed
I still need to read Becoming the Boogeyman, Chlorine, and Maeve Fly. This is a great list, Rachel. You have fantastic taste. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and a very happy new year!

Yeah I want to read everything Wendig has written now
Is the Bad Monkey Press mug, on your shelf, available for purchase online somewhere?
It was sent by the author Chris Sorensen... so maybe?

I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but I know I've read those
Yay. I have been waiting for this.
Brilliant video
How about Slade House by David Mitchell? Just finished it. The praising blurbs on the cover were a little over the top, but it was an enjoyable read.
I still need to read it
Reading delicate condition right now ! 50 pages in 👍
Yay!
Man I love your content!
Aw thanks
PS I’m currently reading death of a bookseller, and at first I didn’t like the two main characters, but I got hooked with the story
Glad you're enjoying it now
Amazing choices! most intriguing for me is def chlorine.
It's a good one!
@@TheShadesofOrange Happy holidays to you and your family and thank you for all the amazing content you served us in 2023!
I’ve downloaded Black River Orchard, now it is in the queue. Gotta get thru 3 other books first tho lol
Hope you enjoy it!
I got the first Boogeyman book. Your right, serial killer books are getting less interesting of late.
I hope you enjoy it
Had to skip through deliver me! Halfway through currently ❤
Is The Shards very gruesome? Body horror/gore is not my thing, but the description sounds great.
I don't remember it being gruesome
Becoming the bogeyman sounds up my street
Hello there hey there

Woman calling their romantic/sexual partner "daddy" is kinda creepy to me , just one person's opinion !
I feel the same. Just ... ew, no.
Agreed. To be clear, I liked the not, but not that term of endearment
I had a woman call me that during intimacy. It didn't sit well with me... also she'd call on Jesus and God. 🤦♂️
I agree and it screams severe daddy issues I'm not into incest.
When you say dark books, do you mean horror?
It's mostly horror but I use the umbrella term "dark fiction" because books like Yellowface don't fit the horror genre

I'm confused, why do you use these pronouns for Bret Easton Ellis?
