Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, “Wonka” tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.
From Paul King, writer/director of the “Paddington” films, David Heyman, producer of “Harry Potter,” “Gravity,” “Fantastic Beasts” and “Paddington,” and producers Alexandra Derbyshire (the “Paddington” films, “Jurassic World: Dominion”) and Luke Kelly (“Roald Dahl’s The Witches”), comes an intoxicating mix of magic and music, mayhem and emotion, all told with fabulous heart and humor. Starring Timothée Chalamet in the title role, this irresistibly vivid and inventive big screen spectacle will introduce audiences to a young Willy Wonka, chock-full of ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time-proving that the best things in life begin with a dream, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Willy Wonka, anything is possible.
Starring alongside Chalamet are Calah Lane (“The Day Shall Come”), Emmy and Peabody Award winner Keegan-Michael Key (“The Prom,” “Schmigadoon”), Paterson Joseph (“Vigil,” “Noughts + Crosses”), Matt Lucas (“Paddington,” “Little Britain”), Mathew Baynton (“The Wrong Mans,” “Ghosts”), Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins (“The Shape of Water,” the “Paddington” films, “Spencer”), Rowan Atkinson (the “Johnny English” and “Mr. Bean” films, “Love Actually”), Jim Carter (“Downton Abbey”), with Oscar winner Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”). The film also stars Natasha Rothwell (“White Lotus,” “Insecure”), Rich Fulcher (“Marriage Story,” “Disenchantment”), Rakhee Thakrar (“Sex Education,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral”), Tom Davis (“Paddington 2,” “King Gary”) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (“Paddington 2,” “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” “Mary Poppins Returns”).
Simon Farnaby (“Paddington 2”) & Paul King wrote the screenplay, based on a story by King and characters created by Roald Dahl. Michael Siegel, Cate Adams, Rosie Alison and Tim Wellspring are serving as executive producers. King’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Chung-Hoon Chung (“Last Night in Soho,” “Ah-ga-ssi”); Oscar-nominated production designer Nathan Crowley (“Tenet,” “Dunkirk”); editor Mark Everson (the “Paddington” films); Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (the “Paddington” films, “Topsy-Turvy”); and composer Joby Talbot (the “Sing” films). Neil Hannon of the band The Divine Comedy is writing original songs for the film.
Warner Bros. Pictures Presents, in Association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Heyday Films Production, a Paul King Confection, “Wonka,” set to open in theaters and in IMAX internationally beginning in December 2023 and in North America on December 15, 2023; it will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. - Кино
Respect to everyone that searched for "wonka trailer" and decided to click the New Zealand version
What's the difference?
@@airspeedish there’s just better fist fights and aloof optimism.
😂😂
I'd like the New Zealand version of everything, please 😁
This is the one linked to by CNN in US
I never thought Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa would be the best thing I'd ever seen until now
shouldve been kept 100% secret, just like tropic thunder
@@Rainbow7SsThere's Oompa Loompas in Tropic Thunder? I must watch it now...
@@patrickmaloney6440I mean Tom Cruise is pretty much Oompa Loompa size…
It was just all kind of wrong
It Looks Just Like From The 1971 Film The 2005 Look Better.
Let's be honest. Gene wilder killed it so much, no one will live up to Wonka.
But you can clearly see that's who he's emulating right down to the voice and mannerisms. He probably grew up watching the original and you can see the influence, obviously wanting to do the part justice.
@jazzimel no he's not.
Johnny Depp claps both these fools.
@@The_Young_Swag gene wilder is the real Willy Wonka and this is Prequle to the gene wilder movie
@@The_Young_Swag 🤣 tell us you haven't gone through puberty without telling us you haven't gone through puberty.
It's hard not to measure every Willy Wonka performance against Gene Wilder's take on the character. Looking forward to seeing Timothee's version!
You're bot
Yes. Chalamet says ‘scratch that, reverse it’ and Wilder says ‘strike that, reverse it’.
@@rizzo9748 well, I do have metal pins in me from a broken bone, and I'm good at math. sooo kind of bot..ish I guess.
also: "You're *a* bot" ....beep boop
Johnny Depp was great
@@anong8181 awful smh
Just after seeing him dark, dreadful, and dreary in Dune and now bright, bubbly, and brilliant in Wonka is a huge whiplash. I actually believe he's a different person in this. That's impressive, nowadays. Glad he wasn't typecast.
I also like how they're leaning hard into fantasy.
That’s called acting….
@@fazzz Thank you, Sherlock.
Am I not allowed to compliment his performance?
I think u mean he has good acting range. He can play a variety of characters with different personalities
@@elmermedina1713 Exactly. I just wanted to have fun saying it.
he needed to make this movie to fight typecasting
At first, I wasn't really into it. But when I saw it was going to be directed by the director of Paddington. I was on board with it. Plus, it's not a remake, rather it's an origin story.
I am so glad this is based on the story of Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka and not Johnny Depp’s. The story and the music just seems so alive!🎶
Plus it makes more sense we saw a diffrent backstory in depp but the movie was amazing
I hate this. I hate that it's based of Gene Wilder's. The darker story of Depp's movie is far better and more rich backstory that we could have gotten so much more.
@@plankda2x428But we have an idea on what Depp’s is about. We know nothing about Wilder’s Willy Wonka backstory which makes this so interesting.
Oompa Loompa made digitally? what the heck
That’s how they did it in the Johnny dep version as well
@@TheLetrellGand somehow it looks worse now
@@TheLetrellGtrue but they actually used a real person
Every new Wonka movie makes Charlie and the Chocolate Factory look better and better, good on WB for keeping the classics alive.
lol!
but the first one was called Willy wonka and the chocolate factory, and this is only the third one
Nobody will replace Gene Wilder for me as Wonka. He was the best
I completely disagree shame on you WB for crudely making a classic Roald Dahl tale into this special effect seasonal shit pile.
@@YTPGODinternational version of the '71 classic was called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Confusing to say the least.
Hugh grant as an oompaloompa?????? Love it
I don't think timothee chalemet will do a bad job but it's impossible to live up to gene wilders take. Absolutely legendary
Well, this looks absolutely delightful. Like children's movies in the early 2000s. I love that whole vibe and magic
I hope this movie is worth watching. I hate it if it doesn't hook me in theatres on the opening night.
It’s from the director of paddington so it should be good
Your comment doesn't make sense.
I just h8 it, whether critical love it or h8 it. I'm hoping 4 the latter.
@@WhatisReal11 It makes perfect sense
movie looks trash
The point of Willy Wonka's character is that he's a mystery.
Making an origin story is absolutely pointless.
The tone that I hoped for. Glad to see Timothee proving his range as an actor. Hope this is as funny and cute as the Paddington movies!
Looks really fun. Probably won’t watch it in theaters but I’d put it on at home when it comes to streaming.
The fine actors that attempt to play Wonka are still crushed by Gene Wilder
I personally think Tim is a bad actor, actually cringe
Agreed!
And there is Rowan Atkinson
What a cast!
I want a totally sarcastic Willy Wonka dammit!
Literally Gene and Depp...
Out of the entire trailer, all I got was “RuN aWay!!!!” 😂
Timmy is just perfect 😭
Wow for some reason I thought this was gonna be another tired gritty reimagining but this looks so fun and refreshing! King did fantastic with the Paddington movies, I’m actually surprisingly excited for this
Why does this feel like Matt Smith era Doctor Who!?
Looks good, not sure Timothée Chalamet version of Wonka is quite there, but it is only a trailer
I will say, I saw this and thought "oh great they're probably gonna ruin this" and then the more I watched I was smiling and thinking this actually looks good, and I think it feels like childhood
Right? Looks like one of those British/American hybrids where the American idealism and British cynicism balance each other out to make something lovely. :)
You're high
@@matthewjury4385 you're correct
Wow, I never thought that I would see Daniel Thrasher on the big screen! He suits the character so well!
what

I can't not see Daniel Thrasher when watching this trailer. Especially during the jungle bit at the start.
Hollywood with another original movie lmao
I CRY 😭💘
This trailer brings 90s memories

The director is the guy who made paddington 1 & 2!
またウォンカでワクワクドキドキ出来るなんて、本当夢みたい🍫🥰💖クリスマスシーズン一番の、とびきりのファンタジー映画になりそう🎄🎁絶対に観に行くわ🎬📽
This looks amazingly captivating!!!!! I’m really excited to see Wonka’s origin!!!!! And best of all despite the cgi, an Oompa Loompa in its original incarnation with the iconic flute tune to summon them!!!!!
🎩🍫🍭🍬💜💛🤎🧡💚🤍
I have watched this trailer more than a few times and i gotta say,i like it. The song from the original classic is a huge plus playing in the background. Timothee is a great actor, and when he said "Here we go momma, 😢. I think this prequel will be good IMO.
A Movie About Chocolate Makers At Willy Wonka’s Shop Store! And This Is Why They Get An Oompa Loompa!
Okay i cant wait for this. Timothee looks great as a young wonka.
That looks great! I’m down for this!
This movie is going to be a great december movie 🎬
MATHEW BAYNTON YES LETS GOOOOOO
This looks like an absolute blast!
And Rowan Atkinson is hereee too?? definitely a must watch!!! so excited for this!!
I wasn't ready to see Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa ... Now i shall most definitely be seeing this film
Idk if the trailer is doing injustice but the "Quite up and listen down" Line/scene Doesnt paint a good picture of Timothees performance
TImothee looks the part, and his facial expressions are top notch, but his vocal tone kind of ruined that line for me
I know it can work and probably works in the movie when his character and tone is established, so maybe its just the trailer ruining it.
Cant wait to see it :)
I'm in! Hopefully a Feelgood movie finally again.
I mean this feels like every ounce like a Roald Dahl story from the set pieces, the childlike whimsy, and the grandeur of it. But damn if Timothée Chalamet doesn’t feel like Willy Wonka. I don’t know if it’s because it’s him right off the heels of Paul Atriedes or if it’s just him trying to replicate Gene Wilder, it just doesn’t feel right. Also is it me or is Hugh Grant in everything now?
You've seen a 2 min trailer.
@@lovecraftjunkie2331 yes
YES
OMG I CANNOT WAIT😭😭😭
You can hear the music for Pure Imagination playing in the background and im loving it
Wow can’t wait
This is like a perfect mix between Gene Wilders and Johnny Depp's Wonka
That’s insulting. Gene wilder was great. next up jonny depp not as good but still good. Then they wanna make a third for fast money grab with a corny actor
I think Johnny depp's wonka was toned down and dark. Bit off the track and weird. Gene Wilder's was more alive and cheerful. And this wonka movie seems to be the prequel of Gene Wilder's version.
@@aryanhossainorko2957 yeah the shit prequel. some things you should just leave alone at this point it’s obv a money grab

That last line sold me hook line and sinker
Timothee Chalamet is the perfect young Wonka type
Tom Hiddleston wouldve been better
@@kennystephens7098 Hiddleston is great, but he's 4q years old. A bit aged out of this one.
@tomwisniewski8988 ??? Nobody wants see 20 yr old wonka. 49 is fine. Gene wilder was probably a similar age
@@kennystephens7098 I'm not disagreeing, but Hiddleston is too old for a Wonka prequel.
When will the movie release.... 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤ Excited to see it🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
The end sold me. Wasn't feeling it until then.
Another origin story of a person who doesn’t need a origin story. That was the fun of Willy Wonka. “Nobody goes in. Nobody comes out.” We didn’t know who he was. Or how he did it. That was for our imagination. Now it’s “he made the candy in his small closet of an apartment.
❤ OMG I CAN'T WAIT!
Ya'll know there's an actual sequel right? The Great Glass Elevator? We have three Willy Wonka movies now and none are of the Great Glass Elevator. It's got aliens and traveling to the land before birth and stuff.
This actually looks good. I've been waiting for a prequel for long time now.
I've literally never wondered nor thought we needed to know Wonka's backstory. We don't need to know every fictional character's life story.
@@solidus_spence well said
Timmy is fantastic🥰
England is looking very diverse for that time period lol
I cannot wait to see this ❤ it looks amazing 😂
in the movies he was still working on Fizzy Lifting Drink to make people float, but here he has it already worked out??
Everybody knows that it's the fizzy-lifting drinks that make you float, NOT the chocolate... ;-P
Wait this actually looks REALLY REALLY GOOD
Can't believe how diverse beginning of the century England was!
Fun fact,it wasn't.
Where are the Chinese, the Aboriginees, and the Native Americans? I am not seeing their deserved representation in this Classic
@@c.rutherford I know right! You couldn't walk two steps without bumping into one of them while walking the streets of 1900s London!

I hope this is a prequel to the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory and one of the best films of all time since 1971 not the 2005 remake
Was wondering how this one would go after seeing some great shots of Timothée Chalamet in costume and then I see Olivia Coleman, Rowan Atkinson and Hugh Grant as an Umpaloompa.... with the words "from the director of Paddington".... I'm in.
I like how its a story of his start with the respect to the gene wilder version.
That was funny Hugh Grant as an oompa loompa lol.
IM CLAWINF AT MY SCREEN I CANT WAIT TO WATCJ THIS
Okay you got my attention this looks promising
OMG this looks great I can't wait to see this movie!!!!
YAY
These one word title origin story movies are such a scourge on the earth.
I lift my hat for the idea but I cannot see myself go to the theater to see people eating candies and flying. lol
Was looking forward to this. Was hoping they took it more seriously like the 70s movie.
They made Willy wonka look gorgeous
So this a prequel to the original 1971 film or the 2005 film or is it a reboot?
Can’t wait till 5 years and it will be remade again
Coming out on my birthday what a Birthdaypresent!
Beautiful
Oooh, they're leaning into it, man, I thought this was gonna go the other way in tone! Yeah, okay, this looks like great fun!
I may not ever buy this movie, nor watch it, but boy does the trailer look so fun and happy!
Another Oscar is ready to Timothee! One of the greatest movies of the year, maybe the only one in this year! I can't wait!!! Amazing, fascinating and breathtaking!!!! Well done!!!
It’s literally a trailer, calm down
@@BradderzSG😂
No. I dont think he wins the Oscar for this. I´m not even sure he gets nominated. But I hope so, based on the trailer. But think about this: DiCaprio is back, Jaquen Pheonix is back, Cillian Murphy is in a Christephor Nolan movie (and they always get nominations) and Johnny Depp should make a come back later this year. And thats just the major actors I can think of. What are the chances, that the acadamy nominates five white guys in 2024? No. Sadly I dont see it. But who knows - this is just the first trailer, and the movie is only comming out in december
Timothee as young Willy Wonka is great casting. He resembles young Johnny Depp too.

I remember when the Johnny Depp Willy Wonka was released and a big criticism was that there was too much CGI. This one is full to the gills with CGI. Hopefully it's just as good as the first 2.
Depp's wonka has another level
Timothy ChamaLamaDingDong ain't never gonna fill Wilder's shoes. NEVER. And yes, I could've cast this role much better.
Ehhh. Tom Hiddleston would've bern better. He actually has charisma, charm, eccentricity. Is the right age has the right look
