I finally found it!!! Late night recording my TV out into my brother's minidisk, making mix tapes and wondering which band played this song. My life is complete now at the age of 43.
Not surprising, Chino was a fan of a good number of bands like Jawbox, HUM, Weezer, and Quicksand. It stands to reason that he was also probably a fan of Rival Schools
Things I love about this video: 1.15 - The guy with the afro sat down on the left of the screen is wearing a blue/white shirt that has on it a picture of a guy with an afro. 1.27 - The high frequency of Rival Schools t-shirts, such as the girl stood up in the 3rd pic of this sequence, and again at 1.32 2.00 - The girl gets mad at his because he has to go to the bathroom. That's a dumb reason to be upset with someone. The guy needed to take a wiz. 2.40 - "The blame was fooounnnd" 3.00 - Dude in the Ashland t-shirt scores. Go that guy!
I love this song, honestly one of music's best kept secrets. I wish it gets the attention it deserves in a few short years. I also wish for an instrumental
I never saw Rival Schools live but I did get to see Walter play a solo acoustic show in Cardiff. After the gig I went up to him for an autograph and gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Later on I went up to him, apologised for the kiss, asked for a photo and just as it was taken he turned and kissed me. Anyway great band and a great song.
Walter is a rad guy. I met him after a Gorilla Biscuits show a few months ago, I was wearing a Rival Schools shirt and he talked to me first, complimenting me on my “nice shirt!” I’m not normally star struck but that guy is a musical hero of mine. So, it was a cool experience.
Check out Walter's World's Fastest Car album that preceded this one. A lot of the same songs but a few others that are pretty amazing. The album is on RUclips as well. Search "World's Fastest Car Walter" and it'll pop up.
So it’s 2019 and I just listened to this whole album for the first time in ages and it’s still a fucking gem!! Rival Schools was so underrated and that’s a damn shame.

I feel like this song is in a dialogue with Filter - Where do We Go From Here. One talks about the anxiety of starting adolescence period, the highs and lows of it, while the other one talks about the tail end of it.
Weird I only just gave them a proper listen now. I heard them back in the early 2000s but was too busy with detuned goatee metal at the time to appreciate them :(
Walter Schreifels is the baddest mother to ever come out of NYHC, master it with Gorilla Biscuits, transcend it, damn near singlehandedly created “post-hardcore” and then made this killer band. Their last album “Pedals” is even better. He’s a killer songwriter and human being. Anyway, I’ve said my peace. Go Wally!
TouchingPeople OnTheTrain if you ask me this songs hard cause it’s pretty much a mix of post-hardcore/emo/pop punk/alternative rock it’s not really heavy metal in my opinion there’s no screaming, the guitars are tuned in standard, the drumming isn’t super fast enough said about that in a nutshell this isn’t aggressive/beyond the boundaries of how hardcore this song is if that makes sense
@@connorron3110 I believe it's drop D, not standard, but I agree with all your other points here. It's definitely on the heavier end of post hardcore.
Um... I NEVER HERD of this band till now?! These guys r really good all their songs rock! This is insane they aren't more known! This is great! ☠️🎶🫡🖤🏴☠️
Damn, this song shoots me back to 2003. Being just an insecure 15-16 year old kid with a major crush on a girl that treated me like crap and rocking out my frustrations to this song on the way back from a party where she kissed some dude 3 years older than me. I just love how much comfort these bands used to give me :).
Somehow this band slipped by me in my youth. I am going back like a genre historian and soaking up all the post-punk revival, third wave, post-hardcore of the 90's/early 00's. The sound, the style, the atmosphere; hard to believe when most people think back about this scene all they think of is goth kids.

The nostalgia is strong with this one.

Yup, had to listen to World Invitational after this out of habit.
Amazing LP
That random as fuck but really catchy song you find yourself returning to every once in a while.
Whole album is catchy/great
This video is so aesthetically pleasing.
I'm so fucking hyped for the reunion tour with this album being played in full.. actually one of my most anticipated shows in 2023.
I have tickets to L.A. and San Diego. They’re playing a small bar/club in SD. Can’t wait.
video link? :O
We to SD and LA. Still thinking about it weeks later. What a great band! I want some new RS music!
Just posted vids of the NYC show!!! Sorry for my shitty phone bad quality 😅
i should goooo!
I never did consider Rival Schools to be 'emo', just damn good modern rock music.
Sounds like post grunge to me
Agree! Never emo! Underrated and awesome these guys!!
The rest of the album was definitely emo
it has that deftones feel to it

They really captured in this video what the scene was like 25 years ago. Cute
I remember when they used to play this on MTV when it came out.
Walter’s singing through a dented SM58 mic to remind us he’s in Gorilla Biscuits.
I have no idea how I came across this song a couple years ago. Anyways, it's a cool little song I'm glad I found.
i miss the years when rival schools was an 'emo band'
when thick black frames and polo shirts meant emo
