Great explanation. Deep info from vintage origem of this plugin bundle, like Altec, Moog, Harmonize, Lexicon, Siemens, Ampex and so on. Pretty informative from a kind of must have collection.
Same plugin with just fewer options for dialing in exact parameters. It's for when the little details don't matter as much and you just need to slap an effect on something.
@@davidhodgin8900 I sometimes spend stupid time trying to get something exact. But I only got the effect rack, which doesn't come with the "little" versions. It's on sale right now, $100 if you didn't know.
Mike I'm planning on getting the soundtoys 5 bundle but I would like to know if when you get the all bundle that comes with all the plugings are you just allow to use like for instance echoboy only on the Rack or can you pull it out as and individual plugings separated from the Rack? And is this allowed on all of the plugings?
As of this most recent release, this only contains 14 of the 21 plugins that come with the full bundle and you do not have the ability to use any of the plugins independent of the rack. If you can live with that then there's no reason...
Hi Mike. Another wonderful exposition. I am ashamed to say that I own the full suite of Soundtoys and yet I haven't really dug into them in the way they deserve, so I am glad to be reminded again of them, and how great they actually are. I agree with you, the sound quality on the Soundtoys plugins is superb, and makes them classics, in my book. As an aside, I have never seen you cover Hornet and Melda plugins. I wouldn't say they are quite in same the league of Soundtoys, but some of their stuff comes pretty close. I find the Melda plugins, in particular, very usable, especially their choruses, flangers, and eq. I also like the Hornet delay and emulation of the Roland chorus. I was wondering if you have any experience with them as I would be interested in your opinion...
Thanks Kevin! I am aware of Melda, but have not checked them out yet. Never heard of Hornet but am always open to anything new. Do you have specific recommendations? Cheers! Mike
Hey Mike. Yup I do have some suggestions. Thanks for asking. With regards the Melda plugins, they have a plethora of them, so I haven't really even scratched the surface. But the ones I do like so far are: - mAutoDynamicEQ. It is a dynamic eq with multiple types of filters, band solo, and some saturation / eq "style" options - The MChorusMB (MB = Multiband) and MFlangerMB both do awesome things to the sound - the MMultiAnalyser is a seriously useful analyser (spectrum, sonogram, loudness, stereo etc) and... collision meter. If you insert instances of the plugin on more than one track then you can "sidechain" multiple meters to your main plugin and see where you might have frequency clashes between your tracks Why I like the Melda plugins is how feature rich they are and how they push the boundaries of digital mixing, really extending on the classic analog style features in ways that are only possible in the digital realm. And, on top of that, most of their plugins that I have used sound really good, especially the ones above. They have an "organicness" (is that such a word?) to their sound. For the Hornet plugins I use the following a lot: SW34EQ - A modelled EQ that sounds remarkably good, in my opinion Chorus60 - Modeled after the Roland Juno chorus, I think Deelay In terms of your approach to using vintage style plugins to add depth to the mix I think these three plugins fit in that category The Hornet plugins are simple and extremely well priced. But I think they punch way above their asking price in terms of quality. Good for people collecting their plugins on a budget, but will continue to be used even when more expensive plugins can be bought. The above list is really quite limited, but I hope that helps as a starting off point.
Thanks Mike. I had a moment last week where I tried the Melda Reverb (MTurboReverb) on a track and was shocked at how good it sounded.. an immensely smooth and delicious tail on some of the pre-sets. So I would be interested in your thoughts on that too. Cheers.
Mike I love your videos and I love the idea to this video you should do acoustically audio next I feel that company has some really amazing products compare to waves slate or uad
It is part of the SoundToys bundle, just called Effects Rack. Here is my review from when they released it a couple years ago. ruclips.net/video/36MEM3cqaqw/видео.html
Very well explained sir! It was really really interesting to hear some of the backstory and you clearly know your case.
A plugin staple no doubt. Echoboy is a go to plug. Great stuff. No mix is complete without a Soundtoys plugin somewhere.
Soundtoys NEEDS to bring back Speed & Pitchblender!
I can watch this over and over again ....
Thanks LK!
Brilliant overview. Absolutely packed with info, and I just grabbed the effect rack from plugin boutique for a paltry $100, so it's much appreciated!
Great walk through. I really appreciate the history lessons we get about the gear and etc.
Thanks!

Good to know about the gears on the basis of which the plugins are modeled. Thanks a lot for sharing the knowledge 👍🙂
Thanks for the thorough overview - might change up the adjective ‘amazing’.
This was awesome, you really know your stuff. Thank you for putting this out!
Great Video, thanks so much for the insight, just got my self the full pack while watching your video (Black Friday sale FTW)!
Is there a Knight Rider K.I.T.T. preset on the PanMan? :))
Ha!
Lmfao :)
When do you choose to use the “little” versions over the larger ones?

Ryan M yeah that’s true. I like the darkness knob on the larger one. I do spend an extra minute figuring out if i want it to be fast or slow

Cool but where are the sound samples? This is audio after all!
Hey guys I have a question. If I own this efx rack, why would/should I purchase these efx in stand alone/separately?

Didn't realize they had such a big collection of plugins. This may take awhile :-)
Could you please do review of API Vision channel strip ? PLEASE :-)
I will put it on the list.
Great video.
Cheers!
Must have tools, used extensively on every mix.
Indeed!

Never saw this RACK!!!! HUH
Do you me Acustica Audio?
Ha!
