This song, and visualizer, are a response to an incident that occurred on April 8th, 2021, and a protest against the horrors that are perpetrated against baboons on the southern peninsula of Cape Town, South Africa.
April 8th, 2021 was the day the authorities killed Philemon, an alpha male baboon. Coincidentally, it was the very same day that his troop raided the house I was looking after in Murdock Valley, on the southern peninsula of Cape Town, South Africa. The fact that his troop raided the house on the day he was killed is part of the reason that his story has stayed with me. I don't think you are a 'silly old man' at all because the more I get to know about these incredible creatures, the more I am astounded at their intelligence, the complexity of their relationships and the depth of feeling that they display. You are right to identify with them and wonder what it might be like to be one of them. On many levels we are very similar to them.
What moved me most about your response was the simple fact of it, because it gives me hope that there might be more people like you 'out there' and if there are enough, then hopefully, eventually, we can make a difference for the baboons, and other animals too.
