A cascadia with a DD15 and 12 speed auto is a very cost effective truck to have as an O/O. I know all the super truckers out there that shit on anything that isn't a pete or KW, especially the long hood crowd, but you'd be surprised how much more money you'd have over a years time just in fuel savings alone. For someone that does 2500-3000 miles a week for 42 weeks (accounting for some home time) it can be nearly $30k difference in fuel costs with cascadia vs a long nose.

I’m a retired driver I’ve been retired for 5 years after 43 years driving. When I started driving I drove Mack tractors with tri plex and dual plex transmissions. Then I got with a good company called overnite transportation. There I drove a Mack MB no air seat no air conditioning. Had vacuum windshield wipers, and no power steering . A few years before I retired we got real nice Volvos. Had it all ac power steering air seats. But my body took a beating from all those years of driving and throwing freight especially my back. Also some nasty skin cancer on my left side of face and arm. My guess from the sun coming in drivers window. I made a nice retirement package for my self but paid a steep price

I retired a little under two years ago after 45yrs. I started out driving a 66 B-81 thermodyne ten wheel dump quad box. Took my class one in 1976 and worked as a low bed driver for a few years, then bought my first rig. A K100 that was run hard and put away wet. Lol. I don’t know how we did it back then. No cell phones, no GPS, no studio sleepers, no fridge or microwave. I remember standing in line at truck stops to use the pay phones trying to get a loaf. Good times…Good times. 😂😂😂

DD15 IS A GOOD MOTOR. RELIABLE AND EASY TO REPAIR. FUEL MILEAGE IS GOOD .. MINE HAS 904,000 MILES AND RUNS LIKE NEW … THE LIGHT ON THE DASH IS A “MIL” LIGHT .. COMES ON WHEN THE DPF DETECTS A CHANGE IN INLET PRESSURE AND OUTLET PRESSURE. IF YOU DON’T HAVE ADDITIONAL CODES IT WILL GO AWAY AFTER 600 MILES …

If im not going to be at the truck for a few days i put it in auto start to keep the battery charged. Top bunk is where my air fryer and electric skillet and can goods are kept along with my cloths and other things. Its like a small rv. Lol

Mine has a little over 744,000 and runs like new. You take care of any truck, and most will last forever. I plan on purchasing a Kenworth w900 in the future, but I will keep my Cascadia.

Back in 2012, I was trained and got my CDL on a Cascadia with 10 speed manual. 5 years ago, when I went to Phoenix and Nogales Arizona and back from Ontario Canada as a team driver, I was in a Cascadia but it was an automatic. Cruise control and engine braking came in handy during the trip. Mountain driving was exciting and scary simultaneously. I loved manual Cascadia when backing and accelerating but for long trips, automatic with cruise control (perhaps I am getting old) make me less tired.

I own a 2020 cascadia. That engine light is a mill light. You can often times cancel it out by turning on the key , on and off and usually will reset itself. Sometimes if you turn off the power to the truck . (On floor next to driver seat) wait for 5 minutes then turn on the power then turn on motor , the mill light should turn off. If not put a computer to it and it could be a NOX sensor.

7:27 Justin, you mention that in the W900, you have to squeeze between the seats. It is because the cab is narrower in that style trucks. The older styled trucks are a 1.8m wide cab. Trucks like the KW W900, KW T800 and Pete 379/389’s all have the 1.8m wide cabs. The newer styled Aero cabs are 2.0 meter cabs. Trucks like the KW T680, Pete 579, Cascadia, Volvo’s, Anthems and International LT’s all have the wider cabs.

Auto is the way to go! That truck will pull anything you have to pull. Under 80,000 lbs. DD15 is a reliable and good on fuel, my best match up would be a d13 volvo with Ishift. But cascadia is a more solid truck. And quieter onside and more driver friendly then a volvo, hate the hood latch, noise and the two signal levers on the right side on volvo.

The jerk when you first took off was not the Transmission automatics have a brake assist or should I say hill assist to where the brakes are engaged until a certain amount of gas pedal pressure is given and then they release that way the truck does not roll backwards. Looking at the windshield that truck has been sitting for a little while and more than likely the brakes were sticky and that’s why it jumped.

  • @ncfirefighter235
    @ncfirefighter235 Год назад

I don’t know if anybody answered your question or not, but I have heard it referred to as an idiot light. That means that something has triggered a check engine light at some point, but may be running perfectly now. That will stay on anywhere between three, but up to 10 starts of the motor. The computer every time you restart the truck rechecks whatever part through the code to begin with after so many checks, it does not find a fault the light will go out.. the check engine light that is hollow with just the orange outline is the one you have to worry about that means an active code is present in the computer

It’s an awesome Allison 12 speed transmission. It selects the best gear. You can override by switching to manual by pushing the right lever, outside button and paddle shift. Very decent engine retarder (break). Coming out of an 18 speed Peterbuilt 579, I quickly adjusted to these Cascadias. I truly enjoy driving them. Plenty of Mercedes technology, great comfortable seats, quiet, nice driving. The 2023 I now drive has no dash dials, it is a computerized dash. Very cool, and user friendly with a high tech look. Some drivers find it difficult to adjust. I, on the other hand, quickly adapted and love the technology.

@@renegenereux6475 yes Freightliner puts an Allison in the Cascadia but Allison does not make a 12 speed transmission. You can get the Allison 3414 transmission but it is only a 6spd. Currently there is only 5, 6, and 7 speed options from Allison. There was at one point a 10 speed option that was a short lived and currently discontinued. Now I'm not saying that Allison did not have any input since Detroit and Allison were at one point a partner company (ie. Similar logos) but the DT-12 transmission is by no means a Allison. Is an automatic more to operate or easy to get funding to pay for such as a bank loan finances. I always wanted to operate a big rig and travel from coast to coast eat and sleep at truckers restaurant. I am single since I lost my wife and I believe I would really enjoy the open road.

I rather drive a western star 5700xe with 82”’sleeper. Or pererbilt 579 ultra loft. Cascadia suck they beat the hell out of me and the seats fall apart with 50,000 miles the steering wheel is not centered

If you have any questions about trucks do’s, don’ts, issues, codes, etc. i’m a diesel tech and I live in SC as well (Hampton County area) hit me up. I’d be glad to help or walk you thru whatever. I’m the shop foreman for a big logging company, I used to do side work but haven’t had time lately but I’m always free to talk on the phone. Believe it or not those freightliner plastic trucks with Detroit engine and Detroit transmission are basically the best powertrain out there in my opinion if your gonna keep it stock. If you’re gonna delete it cummins is better/easier to do that. If you’re gonna buy used buy directly from a big company like ryder or penske. They have good service records and cheaper pricing and you know they weren’t abused some what like when u buy from a logger.

That check engine could be from a recent Regen. It takes a few hours to go away some time.

Cascadias are cheaper trucks. Those sensors and EGR valves will drive you bats. That's especially true when it shows no faults. Jake's were on the handle for the transmission

The engine light is on because it might needs a knock sensor. I just put one in my 2019 freightliner Cascadia.

Hey Justin it could be your coolant sensor. It’s on your reservoir. Sometimes you have to bypass it by using a paperclip that happened to me one time and it wasn’t low on coolant but come to find out it was my coolant sensor on my Reservoir.

Diagnostics screen with all the 3 letter codes. Highlight the triangle one that's just a few lines down.
