Bought sweets from a stranger the day it was released after school in 1982, I was 12, the only Squeeze fan in my school. All the other kids liked Madness. North v south of the river in a south London school.. i still play this album today
@hkbodensiek - Absolutely agree with you. Second verse ....She's romantic and i'm selected , glances swapped and thoughts collected. Lyrics are unbelievable. Squeeze are more than 1 singles album. People should hunt down their other studio albums because there are loads of great songs on them. Somebody upload Dark Saloons.
This sort-of happened to me at a jazz concert I went to. I caught the eye of the very attractive female violin player, but I was too shy to talk to her in the interval. I had to leave before the end of the set, and I caught the sad look on her face as I exited. . .I missed my bus anyway, and ended up walking home. . .I sang thios song as I did, wishing it all could have been different. I never saw her again. . .
So sweet! A time when it seemed that to become a saint it would suffice to be romantic: to DRINK, crush on girls, let one's sensitivity roam, be kind...
2849 views now alot of us did buy this album back in May 1982 I remember showing my Dad the liner notes which compared them to Beatles my Dad would pass away Flag Day 1982 it would have been cool to see Squeeze at MSG with him that summer well thats my point of view
I adore this song. It's so lovely. Going to see them TONIGHT in SF. Hooray!!!!
This has always been one of my favorite Squeeze songs. Takes me way way back.
Difford and Tilbrook are criminally underrated songwriters

Wow sorry dude that's awful...
Another example of how a SqueezeSong perfectly narrated a moment in my life.

4 or 5 really good songs (this one is one of them) and the rest pretty lousy was my take all those years ago and still.
