I’m so disappointed they didn’t include the part when Brok and Kratos are in this lift on their way to “the lady”, that’s the part that gives context and emotion to the scene when brok realizes he doesn’t have all his soul bits. Quick summary of that missing scene: Brok talks about capturing the sound of the wind for the lady of the forge. Both Kratos and Mimir are confused by the concept of trapping the sound of wind… that’s when Brok says his famous quote “it is the nature of a thing that matters, not it’s form” Edit: almost forgot, that’s also where Brok gives kratos and mimir a riddle to solve “what gets bigger the more you take away?” That riddle carries a big weight for a future scene in the story that I hope they don’t cut it out from that video
As he said, he wants to still play the game so i find them cutting pieces like that gives him more reason to play it himself, but i do agree, there's some bits of dialogue I've noticed be cut here and there
1:35:40 - You're right, he's tired! He's tired of war, and the scars they leave behind. It's why he focuses so much on the blade of chaos brands. That nasty gash in the middle, I don't want to mention too much here, but he gets ran through with a sword (so much more than this, meaning wise). I love this scene because I really do think it's Kratos remembering who he was, and who is he now and how much progress he's made, and realising how much he stands to lose if he has to go back to being the God he was, considering HOW MUCH he lost to become that God in the first place. The disdain for the blades of Chaos in dropping them to the floor, showing his feelings for his past, and reluctance to go back to it - His lingering attention on the Axe from his wife, a gift to signify the hope he found that life could give him more, a chance of family, which he also discards dismissively, as it's still a weapon, but less so. Then lingering on the scars, wondering whether there actually is any escape from his title of God of War - THEN back to his wife's ashes, answering his own question and fears. There's such a heavy emphasis on fate in this game, and Kratos is still fighting the idea that the only thing he really is, is the God of War, despite his growth. It's such a beautiful moment, and so much conveyed in one scene with no dialogue. The imagery here is incredible
I've seen a number of 'filmaker reacts' on RUclips and there's usually no indication of actual filmmaking, props to you for actually providing commentary that lends itself to that concept, seriously, you're the only one I've actually watched hours long videos on never you're providing commentary that I've not heard anywhere else
Something I found really cool is the way that they weaved Kratos into norse mythology in this series is by making him Loki's father. In the myths Loki's father, Farbauti, means "cruel striker" which is one of the nicknames the Norns rattle off as he's traveling toward them (unfortunately this video cuts out a lot of meaningful dialogue from the game lol). To my understanding in the myths nothing is really known about Loki's father other than his name. That ambiguity and nickname was a perfect way for the creators to make it be Kratos.
Just a little FYI, Loki is the god of mischief. That’s why they keep saying that. He is also the father of Fenrir AND Jormandandur. In the 2018 games, after they speak with the world serpent, Mimir even mentions that Jormandandur says that Atreus looks familiar. It’s one of those weird Terminator time bend things.
It is so clever the way the game devs wrote how Loki’s children were created! In this game Atreus doesn’t birth or conceive his children, with both The World Serpent and Fenrir (Loki’s actual children who were giants in the original mythos) Atreus places someone else’s soul, at first he places a giants soul into a snake creating The World Serpent, and then he places his old dog’s (Fenrir) soul into Garn! This writing is genius
@@kraazexjoker1874 If the next game is based around Egyptian mythology, one could see them having the World Serpent be known as Apophis to the Egyptians - Atreus becoming known as his creator certainly would do something to his story.
26:12 That was the first time in this game Kratos called Atreus “boy”, at the end of the last game, on the top of the mountain, Kratos finally calls Atreus “son” which meant that the journey they went on improved their relationship but in this game after Atreus kept secrets and became an angsty teen Kratos no longer feel trust in Atreus and their relationship went a step backwards
The two symbols made at 1:26:29 are the omega symbol which is the Greek symbol of war and the chevron is the Spartan symbol and a spear is the first weapon a Spartan learns to use so the spear is the closest to Greece kratos has been since god of war 3
Omega. Ohm is specifically about electrical resistance, and the Omega symbol is used for it. I mean this as a friendly correction. Your comment was insightful and well written.
Watching this (ive been waiting for Pt2!!) and seeing your reaction makes me realise how far games have come. They are so much more cinematic, immersive and an incredible storytelling medium
They are and the games like this one, mind blowing. I hope more games can learn from this. I understand however it does cost an absurd amount of money.
11:30 My lord, there was SO MUCH storytelling that this playthrough just... left out?! If you do pick up this game, you'll definitely realize just how massive that cut was between Freyr's camp and the dragon fight. Same thing with them cutting out Brok's line after he fell.
The wall scene on 1:42:59 shows how Kratos changed since Greek Saga. Young Kratos would've crushed that wall in one strike, but as he's older, he learned how to focus, hold back his devastating power so that he doesn't turn into a monster he was in the past. That's a very interesting detail, cuz after you been through previous games and seen what he's capable of, it's a big surprise to see how that wall didn't get deleted to atoms lol
1:25:40 Just a lil interesting tidbit, the reason why the music is powerful is cause this is a weapon JUST and MADE FOR Kratos, the Blades of Chaos was made for him BUT made at Aries's request and given by Aries, that's why the former God of War controlled it in their fight before and if you didn't realize or know, every weapon that Kratos wielded was just GIVEN to him or LOOTED off from enemies
Omg I was so looking forward to seeing your reaction to this part 2! Heimdall is one of my favorite characters too, he's so arrogant but somehow endearing ? And the voice actor did such a good job !) And the scene with the Norns ? I thought it was so ingenious and creative the way they constructed it, one speaking in the 1st person, the other in the 3rd person and the last speaking in quotes. It's almost like breaking the 4th wall, because the whole moral of the game is based on what the Norns say: destiny or prophecy is an illusion, it's your own choices that define the path that will or will not lead you to your doom. I hope it made you want to play the entire game and discover the story in detail! You won't be disappointed!❤ Impatient to see the Part 3 btw
Absolutely love the way you explain everything (even if I dont always understand) its what separates you from the usual reaction channel. Every other reaction channel just watches and barely says anything, but you explain everything and talk about how things work together to achieve certain effects.
Seems you lost some stuff towards the beginning.. before Nidhogg there is a lot of banter between Kratos and Freya -- this is when she learns that Kratos had another family that he was tricked into killing.. changes her perspective on him a bit..
At 26:13, I love how this is the only time we hear Kratos call Atreus "Boy" the whole game. Over the three years, Kratos and his relationship with Atreus has evolved to the point where he can openly address him. I love that at this strained point old habits come back for our God of War. Plus, this is giving the same energy as "My parent just used my full name and I'm in trouble."
the mythology Draupnir - a ring which every day makes 9 identical-looking rings (which is why when Sindri fumbled it he wasn't 100% sure he'd gotten the right one). Heimdall - the whitest of the Aesir (so of course Marvel casts Idris Elba), able to hear grass growing in Midgard, eye sight so sharp he sees days into the future, he also has golden teeth, guardian of the Rainbow Bridge Odin - in his search for wisdom he sacrificed an eye and hung himself from the World Tree (played here as a Mafia boss) The Norns - One represents the Future, one represents the Past and the one who speaks Kratos, Freya & Mimir's lines in unison with them represents the Present. They weave the threads of a person's life and when it is done cut the thread - hence their home is made of threads (their dialogue makes it seem as if they're writing a play and they call Mimir Puck).
In one of your previous videos you said music is also a character. Just finished replaying the Greek games and the music in those is SO good. Especially the build up for the final fight
That's right, you want to use music as a character that speaks directly with the audience. It can tell you what to feel, what a character is thinking, loads of ways to use it. I'm hoping to cover the original trilogy, should be fun!
You’ve constantly asked throughout the game if the slower parts are considered “boring” to a lot of players…the short answer is yes. For a lot of people that grew up playing the original games, the slow beats hardly existed at all, they were MUCH more focused on the brutal, god-killing side of Kratos. I have come around to appreciate the depth the story gives now, but when I first played this game, I can’t lie, I was really annoyed with a lot of the slower sections, particularly with Atreus
@@kaizammitwhat a guy. REALLY been enjoying these videos of yours, and super looking forward to the (hopefully) upcoming reactions to the DLC as well as the Greek saga!
I actually didn’t mind the longer scenes in this new GOW series. However, in the case of ragnarok I did had my issues with some of the writers choices in dialogue… some of the dialogue is too comical for something that should have more of a serious tone. Also the way the characters express themselves sometimes is a little off putting, even immersion breaking at times like when they say things like “no sh**t” or “kinda cool” to me that’s a modern way of expression and it’s something the 2018 GOW did not have
You're missing SOOOO MUCH! 😭 It's so frustrating, but I'm glad you're gonna play the games for yourself later! In any case, another great analytical reaction! Can't wait for Part 3 ❤
The way you explain the subconscious story telling of they way they use the lighting is kind of crazy. Makes me want to go back and see if I can notice it in other games
The whole set up of “nature of the thing that matters, not its form” is missing. You’ll appreciate these scenes a lot more with all the cut out bits when you play it
A fact that you may not have seen from the previous game (it is VERY difficult to obtain this information, you have to defeat the most powerful superboss in the game and it is optional), is that Freya is the queen of the Valkyries. Literally that superboss... is the second in command.
The snake is growing bigger - Loki and Angurboda are the mythological parents of Jormungardr (the World Serpent) and Fenrir (or Fenris) the wolf (as well as Hela - Marvel messed up that part of the genealogy too 0- but she doesn't appear in this story). they couldn't very well have the teen lovers producing them in the traditional way and resolved it by them doing it through the agency of putting souls into animals - a giants soul into a normal snake - which allows it to grow bigger - and a normal wolf's soul into Garm, the giant guard dog of Helheim.
There are so many special scenes that got cut out with lots of development between characters and family members that were missed in this. I hope he pays attention while playing the game. To understand the symbology and the references for example when Brock says his blessing on the dropnear wouldn't mean squat . Kratos references it's the nature of a thing that matters is an exact quote from something Brock mentions earlier that was cut out
When Freya forgives Kratos it's the first time I think a God has done that or shown him that it's even possible. Both Freya and Thor were exactly like young Kratos, that was one of the moments that reinforces what he sees himself becoming at the end. I hope the next games has Atreus on his own journey finding and resouling Giants and Kratos with Freya and drop ins from Tyr visiting formerly closed of realms like Egypt and the East. Kratos is learning about peace, almost being retrained in combat that isn't tied to state warfare like Sparta was.
YOU DON'T KNOW HOW LONG I WAS WAITING FOR THIS I CHECKED EVERY SINGLE DAY SINCE THE FIRST UPLOAD. IT FEELS LIKE MY BIRTHDAY. I LOVE THE GOD OF WAR ONES THE BEST!!!
@@kaizammitalso I'm so upset they didn't include the Calliope scene with Kratos telling Freya of his past, watch it if you have the chance 100% worth it. or play it if you're planning on playing that one too. :)
I really hope you will play the game and upload it here! You did find a video that has only the cuscenes, but there is a lot of chatter between those scenes. Especially the important ones like what Kratos told Freya about what happened to his former family that lead Freya to forgive him and much more! It s good because when you will play the game, it will have a lot more stuff for you to experience!
it`s sad, on the source you`re watching, they cut so much dialogs that happen during gameplay. For exemple, Kratos opening up about his daughter to Freya. This dialog brings Kratos and Freya`s relantionship a little bit stronger
I actually enjoyed playing as Atreus due to his fun moveset but it seems a decent amount of people didn’t cause they find him annoying. So many stun explosions and grapples. Also it was originally gonna be a trilogy but they condensed it down to 2 games, due to that the pacing is a little wack partway through. A ton of references in this game are from the previous games though and if you ever watch them youll see em hopefully
First she was Jessica in True Blood! And no we don't know how or why she died only theories. She might have become gravely ill due to some kind of disease. Her battle with Thor may have caused lasting damage to her body which eventually killed her. One thing is sure. She knew she would die and she set up everything in preparation for her death and what would come afterwards.
Def play the games if u havent going thru all this youreself hits way more i think u said u were playing 2018 unless im wrong but u should go thru both for sure so good
Great Cutscene reaction again Kai. Because you speak so often in this Cutscene reaction that it is like a movie or a Tv Show, maybe is interesting for you, that amazon has confirmed they are actually in Production of a God of War Tv-Show which would play in the Norse Mythologie, but at this time there is not a release date for this right now. By the way your reactions are great please go on with your good work.
It should be worth mentioning that a new creative team has come onboard since then; and it is presently unclear whether or not the Amazon series will be skipping to the Norse era.
At 1:06:08 you ask if the game is a trilogy, and unfortunately NO. The game was originally INTENDED to be a trilogy, however the game directors decided that they didn’t want to make the fans wait for the entire story to be told over such a long period of time, as taking the time to fully develop a third game would’ve added an additional few years of production time. It was a bit of a weird answer, and a lot of fans felt that the story seems a bit rushed as a consequence, especially in the third act. Personally, I would’ve loved for them to stick to the original plans and give us a trilogy, but I think they still managed to pull off a MASTERPIECE of a game nonetheless.
I'm glad it happened but I'm sorry you missed the walking discussions. But for your job you've seen what matters to analyse the film, ography thingies. You'll hear so many cool things when you play it yourself.
2:07:24 and that is exactly why so many people were begging you to switch versions, lolz. I guess this uploader figured their shtuff out before they finished the game.
Loving the content and your insights on game. Shame the video you use for the gameplay misses a lot of emotional and key dialogues during the gameplay, one of the great parts of the game
I was trying to hold my tongue about them skipping scenes as many people brought it up, but it pains me to see that many of the scenes are either incredibly important, or necessary for giving context to an impact full scene that is otherwise dull without it. The scene where Brok blesses Draupnir is my personal favorite out of the intire game because it has so much importance, growth and bonding for both Kratos and Brok. In the case of you playing the game yourself, it would have been better if they had not included the scene at all, getting 50% of the scene really hurts the present experience and the experience when you witness it yourself.
Sorry cant put down a comment , i must see this first before comenting, but befor that ARE YOU MIMIR, the sound the gesture verry much mimir alike 😱😱😱 , anyway great video and god bless you sire
To answer your question bout Kratos dying, his died quite a few times in the previous games but came bk to life. He can't die no matter what cause of a curse, his cursed to carry the ashes of his family. And Man Kratos ain't getting weaker.. it's the opposite, Greek gods gets stronger the more they age.. Kratos seems weaker cause his restraining himself because his afraid his son would see him as a monster, his getting tired and struggling cause of his restraint.
Hi Kai, I hope you’ve read the comments about missing a lot of the core story by only watching the cutscenes. A lot of the stories and dialogue happens during actual gameplay and walking around in game. I recommend using another channels videos. These gameclips one really removes a lot. When they didn’t include the part of Kratos talking about his previous family really ruined it for me.
I actually like this guy/gals edit. Reason being is there's something for me to still play for. The scene you're on about, I've seen it. It was very interesting and great back story for the traversal sections.
1:28:13 I hate that you're watching a cut that doesn't show a lot of parts that would have helped you understand the emotional depth of this scene and scenes to come 😞
I’m so disappointed they didn’t include the part when Brok and Kratos are in this lift on their way to “the lady”, that’s the part that gives context and emotion to the scene when brok realizes he doesn’t have all his soul bits.
Quick summary of that missing scene: Brok talks about capturing the sound of the wind for the lady of the forge. Both Kratos and Mimir are confused by the concept of trapping the sound of wind… that’s when Brok says his famous quote “it is the nature of a thing that matters, not it’s form”
Edit: almost forgot, that’s also where Brok gives kratos and mimir a riddle to solve “what gets bigger the more you take away?”
That riddle carries a big weight for a future scene in the story that I hope they don’t cut it out from that video
As he said, he wants to still play the game so i find them cutting pieces like that gives him more reason to play it himself, but i do agree, there's some bits of dialogue I've noticed be cut here and there

Kratos references it's the nature of a thing that matters is an exact quote from something Brock mentions earlier that was cut out
this story is so good, they could string together the cut scenes into a feature length film, and I would pay full price to see it in a theater.
Thor is such a cool yet tragic take in this game. Superior writing was used in this game.
I'm filming part 3 tomorrow! I'm also glad you're excited to watch the video.
@@kaizammit YAYYY PART 3. I LOVE YOUR CONTENT! Have a good day brother!!
Sifs voice actress is Alena from uncharted aswell btw just in case you recognise her voice
I've not covered those games yet but I'll keep an eye or should I say an ear out when I do.
@ they’re definetly great games one of my favourite franchises I’ve played
once again CAN'T WAIT. lol Keep it up good sir, amazing content
Been waiting all week for this
41:38
Considering you watch Sons of Anarchy you should react to Days Gone, its post apocalyptic game where you play as a biker and its inspired by SoA
Definitely deserves a 2nd game
Them skipping the setup for the best line in the game is a crime. "The nature of a thing is more important than the form of a thing."
it`s sad, on the source you`re watching, they cut so much dialogs that happen during gameplay. For exemple, Kratos opening up about his daughter to Freya. This dialog brings Kratos and Freya`s relantionship a little bit stronger
11:16 Damn. I really wish the video didn’t skip over some gameplay. He talks to Freya about his daughter and his brother before the whole fight.
LET'S GO
Been waiting for this
Been waiting for part 2, glad to see i have something to watch once im out of work, oh boi i cant wait, why do i have to have work today 😅
I hope you have a good day at work!
It’s frustrating that the person who cut together this gameplay left out Kratos and Freya opening up in Vanaheim but oh well
I actually enjoyed playing as Atreus due to his fun moveset but it seems a decent amount of people didn’t cause they find him annoying. So many stun explosions and grapples. Also it was originally gonna be a trilogy but they condensed it down to 2 games, due to that the pacing is a little wack partway through. A ton of references in this game are from the previous games though and if you ever watch them youll see em hopefully
Just finished Wukong video. Time for the next masterpiece
LETS GO, I’VE NEVER CLICKED A VID SO FAST
Def play the games if u havent going thru all this youreself hits way more i think u said u were playing 2018 unless im wrong but u should go thru both for sure so good
Juuuuust going to bed when this hits 😂
Guess my first 2 hours are planned for tomorrow morning
I hope he sees the god of war story after this since its also cinematic, not long but still some context.
Thank you so much for watching and the good news! I'll be watching that then.
It should be worth mentioning that a new creative team has come onboard since then; and it is presently unclear whether or not the Amazon series will be skipping to the Norse era.
you must react to the free dlc too, its all about Kratos' past from the earlier games, love your reactions with your input on this
You have to play this game for yourself there’s so much more dialogue that flushes the story out it’s amazing even in the side quests
So excited for you to watch Last of Us. Be sure to watch the remaster for the best quality!
Will do!
Love it mate, please do the documentary, raising kratos, very good watch
Ahh I'm not ready for the finale again. Especially the post-end of the game.
Ah man I was waiting for him to see kratos explain to freya his past
Let's go!
I hope you enjoy the video!
HECK YES
I swear Christopher Judges voice is so low and raspy he could impregnate men. 😂
When they meet the Norns - literally my favourite scene from Ragnarok and the first game. So epic!
😂
I'm glad it happened but I'm sorry you missed the walking discussions. But for your job you've seen what matters to analyse the film, ography thingies.
You'll hear so many cool things when you play it yourself.
Do consider the new Spiderman games! The cutscenes are worth watching for sure!
Yooo new react video just dropped! Nice!
2:07:24 and that is exactly why so many people were begging you to switch versions, lolz. I guess this uploader figured their shtuff out before they finished the game.
FINALLY!!!!🔥🔥🔥
Never clicked on a vid so fast
Haha glad to hear it!
i was hoping to see the scene where kratos tells freya of his daughters story
Sorry cant put down a comment , i must see this first before comenting, but befor that ARE YOU MIMIR, the sound the gesture verry much mimir alike 😱😱😱 , anyway great video and god bless you sire
Also Kai don't know if your planning too but would be good to react to valhalla dlc does some good extra character work post game
“Did he die once?”
Ha! Sure… let’s say he died only >once
YES!!!!!!
Oh shit! The insomniac spider-man games when? There’s three to cover. Please PLEASE 🙏🏼
I'll do a poll soon and see where we go.
